Description
These are very useful and will attract more users to Commons. Completing the LibriVox audiobook collection in Commons may make Commons the largest repository of free audiobooks or at least move it closer to becoming such. Having all free audiobooks in one place is useful for many reasons, including digital preservation, convenience, queryability and findability. Here, they can be organized via user-editable categories and they can be added to Wikidata items and Wikipedia articles.
The existing ones can be found in Category:LibriVox recordings.
Caveat: on LibriVox, the audiobooks are often split into parts – it would be best if one would combine them into one audio file and upload that in addition or instead of the parts. See discussion Path to merging multi-part audiobooks?. For an example, see Category:LibriVox - Through the Gates of the Silver Key where the merged file was featured as media of the day on the Commons frontpage, is included in the Wikidata item and will be added to the Wikipedia article.
Having the audiobooks on Commons will be especially useful once the Commons app can play audio files and/or if the free software app NewPipe (which also plays Soundcloud and YouTube audios and is used by many) adds support for Wikimedia Commons as proposed here.
