- Tentative
Keep. It seems very likely that the artwork here dates from the era when copyright in the U.S. still required going through the formalities, and would have been unlikely for a piece like this. Picture was taken only 15 years into the era where copyright became automatic. I think the presumption here would be on the side of {{PD-US-1978-89}} (if not {{PD-US-no notice}}, if it's even older) for the artwork. - Jmabel ! talk 19:34, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
Keep I agree with Jmabel. This license {{PD-US-no notice}} would apply to this old coke advertising featuring a bell boy. -- Ooligan (talk) 23:03, 14 April 2026 (UTC)

- This is not a logo, but an acronym. We use it in addition to the logo on our websites, letters, posters and certificates. And it is in use for this since over 20 years. It is indeed the very branding of the Germ Toxicology (hence gt) society. ~2026-72825-9 (talk) 20:56, 2 February 2026 (UTC)

File:Christian Figueroa Official Portrait.jpg
This photo is outdated and the license is no longer applicable to this file. Nicolas Underwood (talk) 06:56, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- "Outdated" is never a deletion reason. Do you have any policy-based objection? -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:41, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
Keep "Outdated" does not remove it from Commons scope as this is a collection of historic as well as current media. If the license was correct when it was uploaded, it is still applicable as it is not revocable. I might support a courtesy deletion by uploader request - except for that the person shown seems to have an article about them on en:w en:w:Christian Figueroa. I shall add this photo to that article. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 17:47, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

File:Christian Figueroa Official Portrait.jpg
The photo is claimed to have been created on 11 May 2023 and was uploaded 23 August 2023.
But it exists in April of 2023? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 18:59, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
- Can I just say: wow I was so confused by this. When I used Google Lens to find prior publications, the AI overview
said "The image is a professional headshot with an American flag in the background." - The description says: "Christian Figueroa poses for an official portrait after he was appointed to his position as National Membership Director at the College Democrats of America."
- But the AI said "professional", and it first glance you may confuse this with a professional portrait of someone in the US government. Portrait, American flag in the background with some bokeh, the works. But this man works for the College Democrats of America, not the government.
- And it's so bad. His mouth is forced open, showing his teeth - any half-professional photographer worth their salt would have told them to close it. Especially when someone has overlapping teeth. But the most egregious thing is the flash. His face is a disco ball due to moisturizer that the photographer flashed straight into. What kind of miserable photographer did this?
- But THEN you look even closelier. White spots. White spots everywhere. The camera sensor has dead pixels. Loads of dead pixels. This isn't a professional camera. (not on earth anyway) And check his mouth again: there's a line. Not sure if that's a sensor defect of what, but a professional camera wouldn't do that.
- But THEN you notice the background - there are no dead pixels there. But that's impossible!!
- When FINALLY you notice the edges - whoever took this photo couldn't afford a real photographer, or a real camera, or a real American flag. And Google's AI thought this was professional.
- Thank you for listening to amateur hour with Alexis Jazz. Tune in next week for more ramblings. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 19:49, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
File:1FARM DOW-1998 SPENCER SOUTH DAKOTA.jpg
Two points: (1) The author is not "Flexible Array of Radars and Mesonets (FARM) / National Weather Service (NWS)
" (as claimed currently in the file), but rather Joshua Wurman and Curtis R. Alexander, neither of which worked for the NWS at the time. Both worked for the Center for Severe Weather Research, with Alexander jointly also working for the University of Oklahoma. No evidence to suggest the U.S. Federal Government has any claim to copyright (or PD-USGov lack thereof). The image was also published by the American Meteorological Society, who directly asserts they own a copyright ("© 2005 American Meteorological Society" on the overall publication (not image specific though). (2) The background almost looks to be hand drawn? Even if it isn't, it seems complex enough to surpass the threshold of originality per Commons:Threshold of originality#Maps. Noting for others the actual damage polygons (color outlines) do originate from the U.S. federal government (i.e. they are public records/facts).
For both of those reasons, I think this might just be enough above the threshold or originality for this to be copyrighted. It is a borderline case though. Hoping others give their thoughts. WeatherWriter (talk) 19:05, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
