Summary
| Description |
Four ships of the US 'Ghost Fleet' towed to the Graythorp (Hartlepool, UK) yard of Able UK Ltd in Novemebr 2003 and photographed in October 2004. These are the first of 13 ships to be brought across the Atlantic from the US Reserve Fleet moored in the James River, Va., in a contract made with MARAD, to be dismantled at Hartlepool. Due to problems with the licensing of the Graythorp yard, they were still there in March 2007. Visible are (l-r): USS Compass Island (AG-153), USS Canopus (AS-34), USS Canisteo (AO-99), and USS Caloosahatchee (AO-98). More about the contract at http://www.impact-teesside.org/able1.htm "Able UK and the US Ghost Fleet". |
