Français : Sir James Dewar réussit le premier la liquéfaction de hydrogène à -240°C en utilisant la petite pompe hydraulique de Cailletet et sa cuve à mercure; il laissa son nom également au vase Dewar, qui était en fait le vase thermos inventé par d'Arsonval.
