Summary
| Description | Kamrupi Lokgeet is a traditional form of folk music from the Kamrup region of Assam, known for its deep emotional expression and poetic simplicity. Rooted in the daily lives of rural people, these songs beautifully capture themes of love, devotion, nature, and village life. Sung in the melodious Kamrupi dialect, the tunes are often accompanied by instruments like the tukari, bahi (flute), dotara, and behala. Kamrupi Lokgeet reflects the cultural richness and timeless heritage of Western Assam, keeping alive the voices and traditions of generations past. This performance was presented by Khanindra Deka and Bhagaban Deka from Baihata Chariali, Kamrup, Assam, and was recorded as part of the Wiki Loves Assamese Culture 2025 project. |
