Thanks for uploading File:Edith Greindl, Marie-Louise Hairs, Michel Kervyn de Meerendre, Margret Klinge, Bénédicte Schifflers, Yvonne Thiery - De Gouden Eeuw van de Vlaamse Schilderkunst, 1990.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{self|cc-zero}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Bol?

Pff Jane023 (talk) 10:12, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category
When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with {{SD|C2}} if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available or {{SD|C1}} if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused. In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page, as you did at [[:Category::Paintings in rhe Parrish Art Museum]]. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion). Jmabel ! talk 05:02, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

Changing {{Book}} to {{Art photo}}
Hello, Jane023. I noticed that some of your changes put files in Category:Pages using Artwork template with incorrect parameter, because {{Art photo}} doesn't recognize the City parameter. It looks like that happened when you replaced the Book template with the Art photo template. The book template has a City parameter, but the Art photo doesn't. {{Art photo}} does have a location parameter, but it doesn't seem to serve the same purpose so you can't just replace one with the other. I suggest just removing the City parameter when you make these changes. Also, it can help to preview the changes before saving.
Thanks. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. -- Auntof6 (talk) 21:17, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
File:Von Dürer bis van Gogh - Sammlung Bührle trifft Wallraf-6867.jpg
Hi Jane, happy new year. A question related to your edit: My photo shows two different paintings. Now you have added the Artwork template with one Q-ID only. Do you know if it is possible to add more Q-IDs? Or something else to clarify that 2 paintings are shown. Raymond (talk) 13:29, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- No but I have done the same thing at exhibitions and I just pick one so I can at least see them later in Petscan. To be thorough, I will later add separate image files for each depicted object in the "|other versions" field using "gallery" "/gallery" and then make sure each file in the gallery has the correct Wikidata item (if I don't crop the image for the files, then I use whatever file is already in the item). Your pictures might prove to be better than the ones currently in use on Wikidata - without checking them I would assume they could be cropped and added to the items anyway with the Wikidata statement for "image with frame", since we are mostly missing images of paintings with frames. Thanks for taking pictures of exhibitions! We need more people doing this. Happy New Year to you too. Jane023 (talk) 13:37, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your quick answer. I understand, I think :-) In the past I have taken photos with 2 or more paintings, so cropping could be useful. Last year User:Elya and I have taken photos of every painting in Category:Paris 1863 – 1874: Revolution in der Kunst and detailed photos of paintings of the exhibition Category:Museum der Museen. Eine Zeitreise durch die Kunst des Ausstellens und Sehens , started October 2024, will follow very soon. Raymond (talk) 13:48, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Master of the Khanenko Adoration-Diptych Kiev

Hello! I would like to publish a reproduction of this image in a book about the city of Ghent (Belgium), which tells the story from prehistory to the year 2000. Is it possible? I will cite the painting "The Master of the Adoration of Khanenko" [Bohdan en Varvara Khanenko Museum kyiv - photo Jane Darnell / Wikimedia Commons]". I have an individual publishing house. The number of copies will be very limited. Kind regards, johnny bekaert - johnny.bekaert@telenet.be poespaproducties.be Johnny VBekaert (talk) 16:33, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- No, because I didn’t take this photo and have no personal rights to it. As the source line states, it is a website that you can try contacting. If it were me though trying to publish, I would try the Friedlander project or the museum itself. Those pics look much better! Also, if you aren’t publishing in the USA you may also run into copyright issues, even if your source says it’s Ok to use. Copyright on 2-dimensional images of public domain art are still not public domain everywhere in the world.Jane023 (talk) 08:54, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
Licensing
Hello.
FYI licensing works a bit different on here than Wikipedia. File should have a license for the home country, not just the US.
If you import a file from English Wikipedia, could you please add that license? Thanks.

Invalid parameter in Artwork template
Hello, Jane023. I noticed that there are many files in Category:Pages using Artwork template with incorrect parameter as a result of changes you made. The issue is that you added a "City" parameter, but Template:Artwork doesn't have that parameter. Should it be a different parameter, or should it maybe be deleted? Please let me know.
I see that you have AWB access, so you could automate changing or removing this parameter. If you'd like help with that, or if you have any questions about this, feel free to let me know. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 03:46, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
- Yes I noticed that too. I would like to propose deleting this parameter from the book template altogether, as that seems to be the root of the problem. A book can be in a city, but a book page as it is represented on Commons should not have any location other than the book. I have found multiple examples of art books uploaded page by page, and the template book has been misused for this. I am not even sure how to go about discussing this, other than to just request a bot to massively delete such lines from all files using the template that are individual pages. On the other hand, perhaps I am misusing the template art photo for book pages with painting lithos or engravings that are not photo prints. The template was originally meant for new photos taken in museums by Wiki Commonists, but I have found it useful for all sorts of old prints representing paintings. I object to the idea that engravers who worked for book publishers in the 19th century and earlier deserve a wikidata item for each instance of an engraving in a book held by a national library. Since Wiki Commons has thousands of them, maybe a wider discussion on this is needed. I am not an Commons engravings expert, but a Wikidata paintings expert. For some context, look at this book page example that has been uploaded several different ways, each one part of a separate institutional upload: Category:Réjouissance Flamande by Jacques-Philippe Le Bas. So I guess I am still on the fence about a cleanup approach. Maybe what I want for old art book pages is a new template for "painting image" that I could just add with a Wikidata item parameter that filters out noise like that caused by the "book" template (part of my hesitation is wondering if such books are used by some language's wikisource - in this case above that would be Polish). Your thoughts on this are welcome! Jane023 (talk) 07:29, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
