Getting help

Umuganda is a national holiday in Rwanda taking place on the last Saturday of every month for mandatory nationwide community service from 08:00 to 11:00. Participation in Umuganda is required by law; failure to participate can result in a fine.

The program was most recently re-established under President Paul Kagame in 2009, having resulted in a notable improvement in the cleanliness of Rwanda. Also, there are other informal Umuganda day activities that occur in the middle of the month. These activities are initiated by either society or the government.

Il Juryeonggu (주령구?, 酒令具?, JuryeongguLR, ChuryŏngguMR) è un dado a 14 facce, risalente al periodo del Silla unificato (668-935 d.C.), ritrovato nel 1975 dopo alcuni scavi occorsi presso il Donggung e lo stagno Wolji di Gyeongju, in Corea del Sud. Le facce del dado mostravano inscrizioni recanti varie penalità o sfide, legate ad un gioco di bevute, dimostrando l'importanza dell'alcool e la raffinatezza con cui la sua assunzione veniva celebrata.

  • GraphQL:
    • We extended the searchItems field so that developers can now get all Item data immediately from the search results (phab:T416885)
    • We are working on the ability to get only best ranked statements (phab:T428138)
  • MCP: The Wikidata MCP has been extended. You can now also use an MCP for other Wikibase instances. (more details)
  • Wikibase Cloud: We are looking into making it possible to log into Wikibase Cloud instances with your Wikidata account to make it easier for Wikimedians to contribute on Cloud instances.

There are several steps to making a deletion request (DR) correctly; among other things you must transclude the deletion into the correct daily DR list, and to notify the page creator and optionally other human (non-bot) editors of the page. By far the easiest way to do all of this correctly is to use the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests, which takes care of all that using vetted Javascript. If you prefer to add the {{Delete}} template or {{Category for discussion}} template manually, you are required to follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed). Again, though, there is no need to follow complex instructions if you use the automatic tools.

Also worth knowing: on Commons, {{Delete}} is not a "speedy delete" request like it is on many other projects; instead, it starts a discussion of whether the file should be deleted. If you think a particular media file really obviously does not belong on Commons, see the instructions at Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion. Common cases that are better handled with a speedy delete than a DR include:

Common bad reasons people have for making DRs in the first place include:

  • after renaming a category, trying to delete the resulting redirect in violation of policy COM:CATRED
  • making a DR for a file where there is already a current DR
  • trying to delete one's own work within 7 days (use {{G7}} instead)
  • placing {{Delete}} on the deletion subpage itself, or on a talk page.

Also, please don't use {{Ffd}} (that's an English Wikipedia thing).

  • We enabled links to WikiProjects in the sidebar and added links to WikiProjects Music, Medicine, Datasets, sum of all paintings, and elections (T422935, T422935)
  • We added a floating “add statement” button that makes it easier to add statements without looking through the existing statements (T417641, T428450).
  • We’re working on making sure that users can tell when statements exist before they add new ones (T424009).
  • We made some layout fixes to wbui2025 / MEX (T428766, T428761, T428759, T427658, T428853).
  • We refactored error handling (T423613).
  • We’re refactoring the server-side rendering so we don’t need separate .less style files (T409827).
  • We’re working on the interaction between scrollable values and indicator icons (T425974).

Facial age estimation is the use of artificial intelligence to estimate the age of a person based on their facial features. Computer vision techniques are used to analyse the facial features in the images of millions of people whose age is known and then deep learning is used to create an algorithm that tries to predict the age of an unknown person. The key use of the technology is to prevent access to age-restricted goods and services. Examples include restricting children from accessing internet pornography, checking that they meet a mandatory minimum age when registering for an account on social media, or preventing adults from accessing websites, online chat or games designed only for use by children.

  • Call for local partners: WikidataCon 2027: Planning is underway for the next hybrid WikidataCon, and Wikimedia Deutschland is seeking a local affiliate to co-organize the on-site event. Expressions of Interest are due by 13 July. A Q&A clinic will be held on 1 July at 15:00 UTC (join here).
  • Growth features are now available at Wikidata. This update enables access to Mentorship, Impact module, the Help Panel, and a simplified Newcomer Homepage (without Suggested Edits).

Development

  • Wikidata integration in the other Wikimedia projects:
    • We are continuing to evaluate the prototype for reducing the number of unnecessary edits from Wikidata that show up in watchlist and recent changes of Wikipedia and co. The approach is to look at the diff of the rendered article before and after the change from Wikidata is made. If there is no difference then the change is probably not relevant for that article. We are collecting a sample to further understand how it performs.
    • To continue to address Wikidata's scaling issues, we are planning the migration of entity usage tables to the X1 cluster.
  • Mobile editing of statements:
    • We implemented more feedback from testing of the new mobile front-end. Specifically we worked on making it clearer when a statements already exist that the editor is trying to add to the Item.
    • Additionally, we made minor improvements to the look and feel of the mobile front-end.
  • REST API:
  • GraphQL:
    • We added support for requesting “best statements” for a given Property (phab:T428138)
    • We are working on adding support for negation in Property value pair filters (phab:T429580)
