Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

• To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
• To perform file name swaps.
• When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators.

It is now completed in Russia (active in May), Ukraine and France (active during November), but it's still open in all the other countries.

If you want to take part where WSC2019 is still open, please consult this page. Only some national categories are associated to competitions with local prizes.

If you are an expert user, please consider that images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface.

Please keep in mind that there is a new category this year, i.e. "nature and wildlife".

If you already took part in a country that has completed its upload phase, please consider improving the description in English of your files (click on the edit button), since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them. Hello,

I am a little new to how wikimedia commons work and not familiar with the types of licensing. I had some concerns about the files that were marked.

First off the file titled Soldiers of the 5th Medium Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery during the Second World War.jpg. my concern with this is that is is an original photo of my great grandfather who was in the regiment and I own the actual photo at the present time so I don't understand how I sources as I own the photo and it is now published anywhere else.

Secondly for the files titles, "OCdt leaving CMR during COVID-19" and "OCdt Leaving CMRSJ during the COVID-19 Pandemic 1" these photos my friend, "Alexis Goyette" took and gave me written permission to use with all rights released as long as I cite him wht I did. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SilkCameron (talk • contribs) 15:10, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Nora Digital is our re-branded name now. The deletion request of my files

Hi, hope you are doing well, I just got your notification about deletion request of files uploaded by me. So I work on articles mostly related to Chenab Valley. And the files I uploaded is from a project work of The Chenab Times called "Chenab Valley Tourism and Culture Project" who is allowing everyone to reuse the files with credit to right owner and them. So I am following that and using those files on the articles related Chenab Valley. If The Chenab Times don't have any problems till date what is the dispute then? @Dejaannaa: S obzirom da su omoti albuma zaštićeni autorskim pravima, ne mogu se postavljati na Wikimedijinu ostavu, jer ovdje se mogu nalaziti samo slike sa slobodnim licencama. Slika se može postaviti samo lokalno na wikipediji, kao u ovom slučaju što je postavljena na engleskoj wikipediji, može se postaviti na srpsku ili neku drugu wikipediju (primjeri: sr:Категорија:Неслободне датотеке — Омот албума). --Smooth O (talk) 07:36, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

Smooth O, ja sam razumio tvoju primjedbu i sugestiju, ali ja to ne znam ništa uraditi, pa te molim ko boga da ništa ne brišeš. Što sam znao ja sam uradio, ona fotografija Muhameda Šišića je stvarno moja, original sam napravio 1985, a prije dva mjeseca uzeo sam telefon i fotografisao staru sliku iz 1985. @Zavičajac: Sve slike koje se postavljaju ovdje moraju imati jednu od slobodnih licenci, nije dovoljno navesti izvor jer nijedna slika od onih kojih si postavio ne dolazi sa web stranice koja ima slobodnu licencu (Creative Commons ili neku sličnu). Više informacija pročitaj ovdje: Commons:Licensing, a što se tiče fotografije, predlažem da u polje autora napišeš da si ti autor originalne fotografije, pa će admini odlučiti. --Smooth O (talk) 08:13, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Obrisana galerija na stranici Zoran Pleše

Pozdrav,

Prije nekog vremena obrisana je čitava galerija (sve slike) na wikipedia stranici Zoran Pleše ([]). Ako sam dobro shvatio, problem je bio u autorskim pravima. S obzirom da je galerija dosta bitan, da ne kažem ključan dio stranice, jer, u konačnici, radi se o stranici posvećenoj akademskom umjetniku (slikaru), želio bih da galerija bude ponovo dostupna. Inače, stranicu sam uredio u ime svog oca koji je autor svih slika koje su bile postavljene na stranici i u galeriji. Krenuo sam ponovo uploadati slike, ali me upozorilo da je slika već obrisana s poslužitelja, te da provjerim zašto je obrisana, tražim da se vrati (undelete) ili podignem ponovo ako to želim. S obzirom da nema smisla da ponovo podižem slike ako negjde već postoje i moguće ih je vratiti, odustao sam od te namjere. Međutim, pogubio sam se u silnim pravilima, likovima koji me šalji simo-tamo, što, kako, kada i pod kojim uvjetima. Stoga molim pomoć ili uputu kako mogu vratiti ili ponovo postaviti slike na stranicu, a da ne budu opet obrisane. Ponavljam, stranicu sam radio u ime autora kojem je stranica posvećena, koji je moj otac i sve slike na stranici njegovo su djelo, a fotografirali smo ih autor ili ja. @Zplese: S obzirom da su slike od navedenog slikara zaštićene autorskim pravima autora (bez obzira ko ih je fotografisao), potrebno je kroz OTRS dostaviti pismeno odobrenje autora da se slike mogu postaviti i koristiti sa slobodnom licencom. Na ovom linku ima sve detaljno opisano, kao i primjeri e-maiova i interaktivni alat: Commons:OTRS, nakon čega će vam odgovoriti neko od OTRS volontera. Poštovani gospodine, Zamolio bih Vas da povučete svoj zahtev za brisanjem mojih fotografija. Naime na njima se nalaze moje prijateljice. Vaša sumnja je neopravdana i možda ste zaboravili da po zakonu sa svojim vlasništvom mogu da radim šta želim, pa i da korigujem fotografije nakon fotografisanja. Tek ukoliko se pojavi neko ko tvrdi da su njegove, a to je potpuno nemoguće jer bi izgubio proces na sudu odmah, bi moglo da se razgovara, na ovu temu. Dodatno objašnjenje. Prva fotografija, koja mi je obrisana jeste upravo obrisana zato što nisam ispoštovao proceduru za upload fotografija. Drugu i treću sam uploadovao po proceduri i ova Vaša sumnja je potpuno neopravdana. Molim Vas da budete razumni i poništite i povučete svoj zahtev za brisanjem. Poštovani gospodine, Mislim da sam Vas ljubazno zamolio da povučete svoj besmisleni zahtev, a Vi odbijate i sam razgovor na ovu temu. Moj advokat ima jednostavno pitanje za Vas: "Da li tvrdite da nisam autor fotografija?" Ukoliko ne odgovorite, smatra se da tvrdite. Biće upućena tužba u Sarajevu(moj advokat putuje iz Moskve i to mnogo košta, parnicu nigde u svetu ne možete dobiti to Vam je nadam se jasno), izvršili ste u tom slučaju moralnu povredu autorskog prava. Imajte u vidu da je ovo realan, a ne virtuelni svet. Ukoliko ne tvrdite morate povući zahtev koji ste uputili, jer ukoliko ga ne povučete smatra se da tvrdite, jer Vaše delo pokazuje da tvrdite. I dalje ne shvatam Vaše motive, jer ovo što ste uradili je besmisleno. Jednom kad su slike nominovanje za brisanje, administratori su ti koji donose odluku da li će ih brisati ili ne. Sva diskusija u vezi pojedinačnog slučaja se vodi ovdje: Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Cipservis, a ne na korisničkim stranicama. Procedure na Commonsu su jasne. Ukoliko ste vi autor fotografija koje su obavjavljene ranije na drugim mjestima, vaše autorstvo i odobrenje za korištenje pod slobodnom licencom dostavljate kroz Commons:OTRS sistem. Gospodine Vi se praktično lažno predstavljate kao administrator navodeći ljude da Vas shvate kao administratora, što se dogodilo i u mom slučaju, i time maltretirate ljude ovde, između ostalih i mene. Svakako ćemo se upoznati na sudu pošto tvrdite da nisam fotografisao, s obzirom da gubite parnicu sve troškove sudskog postupka i naše troškove Vi snosite. Vaše pravo je da se branite pred sudom u Sarajevu i to poštujemo. Ubrzaćemo postupak odmah obraćanjem sudu u Sarajevu.  Uskoro će Vas kontaktirati neko od administratora. Jer ste brisali ono što sam pisao, zatim sakrivali stvari u arhivu kako se ne bi videlo da glumite administratora. Ovako posmatrano sa strane, imate izgleda želju da Vas postave za administratora pa maltretirate ljude i prijavljujete im fotografije i kada za to nema razloga jer se ne snalaze misleći da ovde na ovom zidu rešavaju problem. Ukoliko možda imate nekih ozbiljnih zdravstvenih problema recite odmah sada da Vam ne pravimo problem sa sudom, nismo zli ili nehumani. Pozz Smooth O,

Dobih obavestenje da je slika uklonjena zbog copyright-a, medjutim vlasnica tj devojka koja je slikala fotografiju dakle vid autora je poslala mail na permissions-commons@wikimedia.org , gde izjavljuje da dopusta koriscenje, po template-u i formi koja je navedena.

Autorka je Ivana Cutura, i poslala je mail danas. Link fotografije je - https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f1/Dragana-Kosjerina-Wiki.png

Da li i na koji nacin moze da bude vracena fotografija na stranicu Dragane Kosjerine, s obzirom da se nista ne radi protiv pravila, dakle autor slike je poslala izjavu sa svog maila.

Vladimir Lalic photo, deletion request

@Smooth O - hi, you nominated an uploaded image for deletion (Vladimir Lalic, artist, musician, composer) for suspected "flickrwashing". I am the uploader and I procured this photo directly from its author (Nemanja Maras, as stated on Flickr) specifically so that I don't face these deletion requests. I'm really not sure what more proof there needs to be submitted, other than the actual owner of the photo personally uploading it and authorizing any and all uses. Please advise as to what I did wrong and how I can fix it, because absolutely all rights to the use of this photo have been given. Thanks.

As further explanation, the only reason the owner of the photo made a fresh flickr is because I asked him to do it, because Wikimedia Commons suggests it, as a sure-fire way to get your material licensed properly. I find it ironic that Wikipedia admins flag fresh flickr accounts, while the platfrom they admin advises users to make flickr accounts. Dribflow (talk) 19:44, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Photographer is copyright owner of the picture. He is the one who needs to send permission through Commons:OTRS, or you if you have his written permission. Still getting the hang of the talks/discussions here on wiki - thanks for the feedback, I posted in the related discussion as well. My point remains, though - no additional authorization is needed from the artist if the image in question is already made publicly available, for all types uses, as stated on the Flickr account. I get that you are saying that there's no way to know if that's really the author, but you can easily check that by inquiring with the artist, on the same site you linked to in the original complaint. I'm sure he can easily prove that he is who he says he is, and that he is the owner of said account and image. Still, all of that has nothing to do with my decision to upload an image that is submitted for public use, with no restrictions. If you wished to dispute the license itself, that should have been done on Flickr, from where it originates, not on WikiCommons, where it is simply being put to practice. With all of this in mind, I think you will find that I did follow WikiCommons guidelines. But I'm happy to continue the discussion over there, of course. Dribflow (talk) 23:38, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

@Felky: U tom slučaju odobrenje treba poslati kroz Commons:OTRS sistem, ali obrati pažnju da vlasnik autorskih prava mora jasno naglasiti da objavljuje sliku pod slobodnom licencom (Creative Commons ili slično), što na slici nije vidljivo. Also, while I'm attempting to find good faith, I find it strange that you "came across" all those files. I agreed on you that one of them should be deleted, and I did tell you that. The other files are uploads from other versions of Wikipedia (q.v. Wikimedia license), i.e. same images publicy shared. Other are covers of books or painting held in a museum. @Šaholjubac: Ne možeš postavljati slike bez izvora i navoditi ih kao da su tvoje. Ukoiko ne postaviš izvor slike i odogovarajuću licencu, slike će biti obrisane. Ali ne znam što postavljaš nove slike za svoju korisničku stranicu, jer većinu ovih osoba na slikama već možeš naći ovdje na Ostavi i koristiti ih na svojoj stranici na hrvatskoj wikipediji. Samo u pretraživač ukucaj šta tražiš i ako ima slika te osobe, naziv slike postaviš na svojoj korisničkoj stranici. About File:Arexola (Aramaio) Araba.jpg

Hi, Smooth,

I was given permission to upload this image by a whatsapp of its author, but I don't have it any more. Same thing happens with this other image: File:Gasteiz elurretan.jpg‬

They are two other images marked as a possible copyright violation. I made them using several pieces of images from Commons, but I don't have any clue about how to track them. Can we do something to fix this?

As to the File:Elikadura piramidea.png, I made up from an image taken from a school blog in Spanish, I don't remember even which one. The translated version is only used at Txikipedia, the version for children of Basque Wikipedia. I'm just worried about the files I uploaded. Yes, some of the downloaded files had copyright issue . And I didn't know about copyright before. The reason for my concern - Last year some users added a deletion request to the files, which were completely my work, and deleted them without proof. I spent my days for those files. Yes, there is proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. It is clearly visible at the bottom of the same exact website. There is a sign of CC BY-NC-SA and text saying "Licencirano pod Creative Commons BY-NC-SA." with a link to CC license website.

Additionally, it is also explicitly mentioned in FAQ of the website (Često postavljana pitanja): "Panorame su pod Creative Commons CC-BY-SA licencom,..." ("The panoramas are licensed under Commons CC-BY-SA,..."), again linking to CC license website.

Sve slike su iz njegovog licnog poseda i radjene su za razne potrebe, neke privatno, neke u foto session-ima. Ne razumem koja su prava prekrsena. Mi koji radimo u menadzmentu, njegove licne slike koristimo za promociju na raznim drustvenim mrezama kao i web sajtovima. Dizajn odredjenih omota je cak licno moje delo. Kazite mi samo kako ovo moze da se resi. Da li je pri postavljanju cekirana neka pogresna opcija ili postoji neki drugi problem? How to upload photos of book covers

HI Smooth O,

I've got the last warning before being blocked due to copyright violation. Please, let me provide the following explanation: Given the previous deletion of simila uploads of mine, this time, before the upload wrote to a guy, who serves as administrator for the Macedonian Wiki. He instucted me to upload the photos using some of the licences provided on the Upload instruction page, which I did. Also, previously i looked at several articles on Wikipedia and noticed that they, too, contain photos of book covers. For instance, on the Article about the book Little Prince (on the Macedonian Wikipedia), there is the follwoing photo: Малиот Принц.jpg. Motivated by this practice, I've uploaded another photo. Also, let me mention another example: the article about Milan Kundera's book on the English Wikipedia contains the file The Unbearable Lightness of Being.jpg. Of course, there are many many examples such these.

I must admit that I'm really confused on this issue and don't know how to proceed. On the one hand, I'm an active contributor to the Macedonian Wikipedia and I have no intention to violate any rules at all. In fact, this is the sole reason for uploading photos of book covers.

On the other hand, I can't find clear instructions under what conditions one is allowed to upload photos of book covers. Therefore, I seek your advice: Could you provide specific instructions on uploading photos of book covers or, alternative, should I leave the idea of uploading such photos at all.

@ГП: Hi. Book covers in most cases are copyrighted, and therefore it is not allowed to upload them here without permission from copyright holder. Please read more here: COM:BOOK. Book covers that contains very simple design (text only) are not problem (example File:Стихови.jpg), but for everything else you need permission (example: File:Малиот принц, издание на македонски јазик, 1990.jpg - copyrighted drawing on the cover).

So, in order to upload copyrighted book covers, you can upload them locally on Wikipedia (Macedonian Wikipedia in your case) under fair use, and not here on Wikimedia Commons. Since you mention this example w:en:File:The_Unbearable_Lightness_of_Being.jpg, you can see that this book cover is uploaded locally on English Wikipedia, and not here on Commons, and w:mk:File:Малиот Принц.jpg is also uploaded on Macedonian Wikipedia, so you can upload your photos of book covers like that.

Even in a case where such clear evidence doesn't exist, you should still should be more hesitant to tag as copyvio if the Commons version has EXIF and the external version doesn't, or if the Commons version is higher-resolution than the external version. Dear uploader of European Science Photo Competition 2015 and Wiki Science Competition 2017, Wiki Science Competition 2019 and Wiki Science Competition 2021, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2023 has started in almost all the countries.

If you want to take part in WSC2023, please consult this page. Only some national categories are associated to competitions with local prizes.

If you are an expert user, we remind you that images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface.

If you already took part in a country that has completed its upload phase (such as Russia), please consider improving the description in English of your files (click on the edit button), since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them.
