Could you help me upload these five photos from the Philippines to Wikimedia Commons? They feature Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte. The photos were officially taken by the Philippine government and sourced from Facebook, so they are eligible for upload. 2001:D08:E6:D35B:85CB:6A03:C444:4EBF 05:16, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
- I see no evidence that those images have been released to the public domain or a free license. TarnishedPathtalk 05:43, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response. According to the Philippine copyright law (Republic Act No. 8293, Section 176), works created by the Philippine government, including official photographs taken by its agencies or offices, are considered public domain unless explicitly stated otherwise.
- In this case, the images were officially taken by the Philippine government and sourced from their official Facebook page. Similar images from the same source have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and accepted, such as https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Daphne_Ose%C3%B1a-Paez2023.jpg and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:APEC_Thailand_2022.jpg 2001:D08:E6:D35B:2D82:77F8:ACB7:5324 09:29, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
- According to the Philippine Copyright Law (Republic Act No. 8293, Section 176), works created by the government are by default considered public domain. This includes content published by Philippine government agencies on their official social media platforms, such as Facebook. As long as the content is created by the government and there is no explicit statement of copyright restrictions (e.g., "All rights reserved" or other restrictive terms), it can be presumed to be public domain material and freely used by the public. 2001:D08:E6:D35B:2D82:77F8:ACB7:5324 09:32, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

| This work is in the public domain in the Philippines and possibly other jurisdictions because it is a work created by an officer or employee of the Government of the Philippines or any of its subdivisions and instrumentalities, including government-owned and/or controlled corporations, as part of their regularly prescribed official duties; consequently, any work is ineligible for copyright under the terms of Part IV, Chapter I, Section 171.11 and Part IV, Chapter IV, Section 176 of Republic Act No. 8293 and Republic Act No. 10372, as amended, unless otherwise noted. However, in some instances, the use of this work in the Philippines or elsewhere may be regulated by this law or other laws.

- Why don't you upload them yourself? As you can see from my uploads, these are not the sort of images which interest me. TarnishedPathtalk 09:44, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.Yours sincerely, Yann (talk) 16:46, 13 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Yann, am I to understand the situation correctly that Vogue Taiwan should have never released the content under CC-BY because they didn't have the rights to do so and therefore our usage was copyright washing? TarnishedPathtalk 00:53, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, that's what WMF Legal department says. Yann (talk) 09:11, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- Isn't a release to CC-BY unrevokable? I hope no one has copped a ban and that there aren't people out there that haven't taken the works that Vogue will go after because they've decided to try and cop out of their incompetence. TarnishedPathtalk 09:25, 14 March 2025 (UTC)

Hello,
Please obtain consensus before spamming the image I uploaded with incorrect edits in the future.
Thank you @TarnishedPath TS01800 (talk) 04:03, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- Reliable sources support my edits. E.g. https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/no-place-for-hate-as-police-escort-neo-nazis-in-early-morning-march-20250809-p5mlmr.html. Consensus is measured by arguments which are supported by policy. Please obtain consensus prior to reverting me again. TarnishedPathtalk 04:15, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- What is your reasoning for claiming a video with 4 views on youtube is the original source for the image from a video my friend filmed? TS01800 (talk) 04:20, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
my friend filmed
- Thank you for your admission that it isn't your own work, like you claimed when you uploaded it. TarnishedPathtalk 04:23, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- What games are you trying to play here?
- It was filmed using my camera at my request. TS01800 (talk) 04:26, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- Do not revert the source again TS01800 (talk) 04:30, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- Irrelevant who's camera was used. The person doing the filming is the copyright holder. Given your false statements about copyright ownership, I will be requesting administrator intervention. TarnishedPathtalk 04:34, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- You have no idea what you're talking about. It was a commissioned video.
