Tru Dyce layout speedy deletion?

Hi Tim,

I'm confused as to how this is a copyright violation when this work belongs to me. please assist me in this regard.

kind regards Siz Zwane Siz Zwane (talk) 13:16, 25 February 2026 (UTC)

@Siz Zwane This is the internet. No-one has any idea who you are. We have no reason either to disbelieve you or to believe you, but the process at COM:VRT allows you to provide proofs privately. Commons works under COM:PCP and protects both itself and copyright owners as strongly as it is able. The VRT process will restore any files where the satisfactory proof of the right to upload dialogue has been concluded. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 13:25, 25 February 2026 (UTC)

Special Portal

@Timtrent Hi and good afternoon. I hope you are well. Would it be possible the circumvent this whole copyright war and accusations etc etc. by creating a "First view portal", or any suitable name, where users can upload images for review? This would prevent a lot of bad spirit. I know, and appreciate 1t more than I can express that you help and guide me. So to make life easy, for everyone involved, a "Preview portal" could be very helpful. Thoughts ? Cheers Harold Foppele (talk) 12:46, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

@Harold Foppele there is no such concept here. There is no copyright war and there is no legal basis for circumventing the law. Either it is correctly licensed or it is not
Were it your intellectual property and had someone tried to bypass your ownership of it then you would be upset and would consider your next actions up to and including the enforcement of a take down action. Commons does not allow its editors to expose it to that risk. Hence COM:PCP. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 14:12, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
@Timtrent Well, if you look at many of my images that where contested b at various levels, ranging from "Not correct content (for artistic impressions)" to correct: Wrong or no copyright. It happens not only to me. I see a lot of this from various users. (as you know of course). So, allow users to upload their files for approval, with a markup "Please preview". I think it's simpler than getting rejected and warned, "Don't do this again etc.". You saw how difficult it is sometimes. For example there is no consensus over Researchgate. Cheers, Harold Foppele (talk) 14:23, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
@Harold Foppele that is an immediate copyright breach so cannot be done.
When we upload we must declare that we have the right to upload. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 14:28, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

@Timtrent Good morning, I did sent an email to VRT, Ticket#2026030410003864 releasing my picture as required. Is there anything that I must do reg. the SD TAG ? Harold Foppele (talk) 08:56, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

you may ask them the status, and there are some instructions at COM:VRT regarodmg template placement 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 09:13, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
The template was already there. I might have made a mistake in changing reason 2 to reason 1. Could you please check? Harold Foppele (talk) 10:06, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
Thanks!! The review was remarkably fast! Thanks again. Will the title change be done automatic? Do I need to change the filename where it is in use? Cheers, Harold Foppele (talk) 11:27, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
@Harold Foppele Do nothing until it happens. A redirect will incorporate the file where required. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 11:43, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Repeated DR transclusion in daily list

Hello Timtrent, thank you for your effort for cleaning up the mass Flickr uploads.

Just a reminder that if you decide to nominate images with the same DR page name using DR tools (e.g. VFC), can you make sure that the DR page isn't transcluded repeatedly in the daily list?

Please see my revert edits here and here.

This is because each transclusion will transclude the whole DR page, which means the each of the 7 sections you have created were all displayed 7 times repeatedly. So, these were flooding the daily DR list, making it very difficult to check the other DRs for today. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 13:32, 18 March 2026 (UTC)

@Tvpuppy I am surprised there were identical ones. I use VFC and trust it. I have created several DRs for portions of that category because it contained over 4,000 files, and, to the best of my knowledge and belief, all are mutually exclusive.
May I ask you respectfully to check your edit in case the similarity of the file names caused any confusion?
I am open to suggestions of a simple way of handling this mess. So far the only mechanism I can see is slogging through the task, while accepting that some errors are inevitable 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 13:38, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
Hello Timtrent, thank you for your quick reply
  • I checked and all the entries I removed all belong to the same DR (and of course I only left one entry behind in the daily list).
  • If you use VFC to nominate images for DR, and you searched for the images using category name, the VFC tool will by default put the images in the DR page "Files in <category name>". And if search and nominate DRs multiple times with the same category, VFC will subsequently add the same DR page to the daily DR list over and over again.
  • I think it is completely fine to use VFC for mass DRs (probably the best tool to use), but my suggestion for categories with a lot of images (i.e. just like this one with 4000 images) are as follows:
    • Check the DR daily list to check for any repeated entries
    • You can post-edit the DR page to rearrange and group the list of images, making it easier to users participate in the discussion and closing admin to process the images to keep or delete. For example, you can rearrange and group images under subheaders such as "Images only containing people" or "Images that are blurry".
    • You can use {{Collapse top}} and {{Collapse bottom}} to collapse the list to make it easier for users to scroll to the bottom to see the discussion below.
    • You can struck any images you decide to withdraw nomination by adding <s>...</s> to them.
  • Also, just letting you know in case you're not aware, I believe the VFC tool allows you to change the DR page name in the section called "Insert the heading for the mass deletion request".
  • Finally, I just want to reassure you that it's a common mistake I often see by many users, and usually I will just remove the repeated entries when I see it. However, since I assume you will continue to use VFC to create mass DRs, I thought it might be useful to give you a reminder.
Thanks again for your effort in cleaning up and for creating the thread here. Tvpuppy (talk) 14:17, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
@Tvpuppy Thank you for being like Santa, Checking it once and checking it twice. And for the extra informaton. I will improve and continue to try my best to get it right. I will still make mistakes, but different ones/ 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 15:06, 18 March 2026 (UTC)

Clarification

File:Cat on bin (53105026041).jpg File:Grumpy Cat (52740578430).jpg File:Cat on a fence (52740293244).jpg

You described these as "None is COM:INUSE, none has a useful filename, none is categorised."

How are those not useful filenames? Thank you. DS (talk) 17:37, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

Grumpy Cat is a real cat not this cat. The other names are generic for random cats. Feel free to state at the DR that you feel these should be excepted 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 18:03, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
To further clarify, is it your assertion that there is only one cat who can ever be called "Grumpy"? DS (talk) 21:28, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
@DragonflySixtyseven Many cats are called grumpy, yes, but see w:en:Grumpy Cat, which is a remarkably famous cat. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 21:55, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

Central Florida Claymores

Hello, thank you for your involvement in keeping wiki guidelines followed. As you mentioned this is technically my first interaction with the site but as many people ive been using the site for over 15 years as a consumer! I understand you deleted the logo i uploaded due to copyright laws.. the logo is owned by my coach for public use as the teams crest. this is the clubs logo and not hidden behind any copyright laws. how do you wish for me to validate fair use?

as well as im a bit confused as to why you rejected the claymore wiki page? to my understanding so long as i leave the COI notice it was okay for me to make it? there is no narrative involved and this is for data preservation and historical footprint? CarlosLavayenCFL (talk) 14:38, 15 May 2026 (UTC)

@CarlosLavayenCFL This is Wikimedia Commons, and nothing to do with the English Language Wikipedia. I wll, however, have a look over there in a moment
With respect to the logo, the copyright owner may use COM:VRT to lodge permissions here. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 14:58, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
@CarlosLavayenCFL You said "as well as im a bit confused as to why you rejected the claymore wiki page?" but I have not done so. Checking shows that I have done nothing whatsoever to the Wikipedia article as https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Central_Florida_Claymores_Rugby_Football_Club&action=history will show you.
The logo cannot be other than a copyvio since it is a copyright item and there is no recorded permission on Commons for ts onward use, and no source was given to show that it was so permissioned. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 15:05, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
Yes my apologies. trying to get a hang of everything has been a little overwhelming and trying to make sure I follow any and all guidelines. im silly and created the teams draft on my personal page. apologies for the misunderstanding! CarlosLavayenCFL (talk) 15:14, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
@CarlosLavayenCFL mI'm sure you will learn soon. w:en:WP:TEAHOUSE is a very good source of Wikipedia help. That venue doesn't handle Commons except by good fortune and happenstance. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 15:19, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
