Summary
| Description |
English: Delaware Breakwater and Lewes Harbor on the NRHP since December 12, 1976. Located east of Lewes at Cape Henlopen, Lewes, Delaware. The Lighthouse shown is the East End Light, but the emphasis is on the breakwaters here which were used to create a safe harbor at the entrance to the Delaware Bay in 1828(?). Much later 1896(?) this was incorporated into the National Harbor of Refuge, a much bigger harbor. The NRHP followed the same pattern and this little piece was first put on the NRHP and then incorporated into a larger piece which was put on the NRHP later. The larger harbor is National Harbor of Refuge and Delaware Breakwater Harbor Historic District on the NRHP since March 27, 1989 Mouth of Delaware Bay at Cape Henlopen 38°47′59″N 75°6′27″W, Lewes |
