amFOSS (Amrita Free and Open Source Software) is a student-run technology community based at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri, India. The community focuses on open-source development, collaborative learning, mentorship, systems thinking, and research-oriented engineering practices.
Since its inception, amFOSS has cultivated a strong culture of peer learning and open collaboration. Members of the community actively participate in global open-source ecosystems and contribute to projects involving software development, research, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and Wikimedia technologies.
amFOSS also participates in Wikimedia technical initiatives, hackathons, open knowledge programs, and contributor outreach activities across India.
Vision and Philosophy
amFOSS believes in building a strong engineering culture through hands-on learning, mentorship, and collaborative contribution. The community encourages students to explore technologies independently, document their work, and contribute back to the wider open-source ecosystem.
The mentorship-driven model followed by amFOSS emphasizes self-learning, systems thinking, long-term community building, and public-interest technology development. Senior members regularly mentor junior students through structured tasks, collaborative projects, technical discussions, and workshops.
