The Wikimedia Usergroup Nigeria – Rivers State Network is a branch of Wikimedia Usergroup Nigeria, dedicated to advancing Wikimedia projects and initiatives aligned with the Wikimedia Nigeria movement, as well as improving access to knowledge within Rivers State.
Our mission and focus
The network will focus on raising awareness about Wikimedia projects in Rivers State by involving local communities. Through workshops, training, and events, it aims to help volunteers learn how to contribute to platforms like Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, wikisource, etc. This will create more opportunities for people in the state to share knowledge, preserve cultural heritage, and contribute to the global Wikimedia movement. The network will rely on collaboration and coordination with Wikimedia User Group Nigeria to achieve its goals.
Objectives
The Wikimedia Rivers State Network is dedicated to:
- Encouraging active participation of Rivers State residents in Wikimedia projects.
- Organizing edit-a-thons, training workshops, and Wikipedia awareness campaigns.
- Increasing content about Rivers State, including articles, images, and data contributions.
- Collaborating with educational institutions, cultural organizations, and local communities to promote open knowledge.
- Providing mentorship and capacity building for new and existing contributors.
Projects and Activities
