Seals & Crofts
Take us up
Always up
We may never pass this way again.
Seals & Crofts were an American soft rock duo formed in 1969 by Jim Seals and Dash Crofts. Both Seals and Crofts were publicly outspoken advocates for the Bahá'í Faith, often including references to it in their songwriting.
Quotes
- Each one of the world’s teachers when they come are misunderstood, and the first thing we do is strike out at them, behead them, hang them on a cross or whatever. Here mankind waits thousands of years for the coming of someone to help the unity of mankind, and then when he comes, they throw him in jail for 40 years and torture him. I was more or less trying to speak for the human race — presumptuous, I know — saying we were sorry.
- Jim Seals, on the song "Hummingbird" being a metaphoric reference to Bahá'u'lláh and other religious leaders, as quoted in "Passing This Way Again : Seals & Crofts Are Trying Out New Material, Hoping There’s a Place for Them in the ‘90s" by Jim Washburn, Los Angeles Times (26 October 1991)
Summer Breeze (1972)

To the heaven of holiness
Oh source of our being
Oh humming……bird
Hummingbird don't fly away fly away
Hummingbird don't fly away
- Oh hummingbird
Mankind was waiting for you to come flying along
Heavenly songbird
We were so wrong we've harmed you
Oh hummingbird
Lend us your wings
Let us soar
In the atmosphere of Abhá
Lift us up
To the heaven of holiness
Oh source of our being
Oh humming……bird
Hummingbird don't fly away fly away
Hummingbird don't fly away…
- See the curtains hangin' in the window
In the evening on a Friday night
A little light a-shinin' through the window
Lets me know everything's all right
Summer breeze makes me feel fine
Blowin' through the jasmine in my mind.
Diamond Girl (1973)
- Makes no difference
Where you are
Day or nighttime
You're like a shining star
How could I
Shine without you
When it's about you
That I am? Whoa-oh, oh, oh
Diamond Girl
Roaming wild
Such a rare thing
Radiant child.
We May Never Pass This Way (Again)
- We May Never Pass This Way Again Soundstage performance (May 1974) · MDA Telethon performance (1979)
- Life
So they say
Is but a game and they'd let it slip away
Love
Like the autumn sun
Should be dyin'
But it's only just begun
Like the twilight in the road up ahead
They don't see just where we're goin'
And all the secrets in the universe
Whisper in our ears
All the years will come and go
Take us up
Always up
We may never pass this way again
We may never pass this way again
We may never pass this way again.
- Dreams
So they say
Are for the fools and they let 'em drift away
Peace
Like the silent dove
Should be flyin'
But it's only just begun.
- So
I wanna laugh while the laughin' is easy
I wanna cry if makes it worthwhile
I may never pass this way again
That's why I want it with you
'Cause
You make me feel like I'm more than a friend
Like I'm the journey and you're the journey's end
I may never pass this way again
That's why I want it with you
Baby
We may never pass this way again.
