The then Sultan of Sokoto, Sultan Attahiru I cut off diplomatic ties with the British colonists in defiance of colonialism which led to a war. Fleeing Sokoto for the Holy City Madina, he and his followers were ambushed and attacked again by the British colonists here in this little village Mbormi. After a heated battle, the Sultan was killed and as he left his throne without a successor, the Sokoto caliphate was cut short in 1903.
