As it as at the crossroads of I-5 and I-405, it is a bedroom community for Seattle, Everett and Bellevue, and has one of the largest concentrations of retailers in the region, anchored by the Alderwood Mall.

Paine Field, with commercial flights to select destinations in the western U.S., is a few miles northwest of the city.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the largest airport in the region, is about 1 hour south by car or light rail.
By car
Interstate 5 (I-5) runs through the city, connecting to Seattle to the south and Everett to the north.
The I-5 interchange with Interstate 405 (I-405) and State Route 525 (WA-525) is just north of city limits.
By light rail
Lynnwood is the north terminus of the Link light rail 1 and 2 Lines, at 1 Lynnwood City Center StationCategory:Has map markers, 20201 46th Ave W.
Adult fares are a flat $3.00, regardless of distance; children 18 and under ride for free. A train runs every 8-15 minutes from 5:00 to midnight. All trains come from Shoreline, Northgate, University of Washington, Capitol Hill and Downtown to the south after splitting at International District/Chinatown:
- The 1 Line from Downtown Federal Way to the south, via Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Tukwila and South Seattle.
- The 2 Line from Downtown Redmond to the east, via Bellevue and Mercer Island.

- 513 Lynnwood to Seaway Transit Center in Mukilteo. Weekday rush hours only.
- 535 Downtown Bellevue Transit Center to Lynnwood via Canyon Park, Totem Lake, Bothell and Ash Way. M-Sa only.
