They seem not to grasp what a chronology is... It was all started by one person, who then called a group of people sharing his point of view. MetaCat vs. CatCat

Hi, Allforrous. I noticed that you put the {{MetaCat}} template on some articles for characters by name. Those are not metacats because the subcats don't group characters with the same name. Therefore I changed the MetaCat templates to CatCat templates.

The "by name" categories can be tricky when deciding whether to use MetaCat or CatCat. Sometimes they're metacats, sometimes they're not. It depends on what's in the subcats. Most categories of people or characters by name are not metacats. That's because each subcat is for just one individual. An example of a by-name category that is a metacat is Category:Hotels by name. Each subcat there is for all hotels with the indicated name. For example, two of the subcats are Category:Grand Hotels and Category:Hotels named Plaza. In each case, multiple hotels with the same are grouped in a subcat.

More efficient way to add interwiki-links

Dear Allforous,

Thirst I would like to thank you for your hard and fruitful work here on Commons as well as on en.wikipedia. I noticed that when you create a category with the name:'xyz' here on Commons for which there exist corresponding categories on other wikipedia projects - of which you are aware you add the interwiki links by adding e.g. en:Category:xyz> inside the category page. This is not the most efficient way as by this way of proceeding you just add the interwikilink in the left-side menu to en wikipedia but no the links to other language versions.

I fully understand that this way of acting you do not need to make any search on wikidata to add the link to newly created categories on the corresponding item on wikidata. I would just like to suggest you to stop this and replace this way of proceeding with the following:

Just click here on Commons on the created Commons category on the leftside menu on 'In Wikipedia' on the text link 'Add links' which will open a pop-up box with the title 'Link with page' where you can then add the link to the corresponding article on en.wikipedia.

By doing so you will see the infobox - if you have added the template 'Wikidata Infobox' in the created category - filled with information on the created category page it will not be necessary to add the interwiki-link inside the newly created category here on Commons. You may for instance have a look on the history of Category:Conferences in 1917 for which I proceeded this way and could then simply delete the interwiki-link inside the category here on Commons.

Category:Poets from England and Category:Poets from Scotland are treated this way (like non-diffusing parent categories). There are 200+ files with the same category situation in Category:Poets from Ireland, Category:Poets from England, and Category:Poets from Scotland. If you want to revert the Irish ones, just use cat-a-lot. The English and Scottish ones need to be sorted into male and female first. Then all the other poets by country categories need to be sorted. MetaCat template parameters

Hi, Allforrous. Thanks for working on meta categories. I noticed that some of your recent changes, like this one,this one, and this one, added incorrect sort criterion parameters. There are a couple of different issues:

• Metacat sort criterion parameters should always exactly match the sort criteria indicated in the category name, even if it isn't recognized (yet) by the template that processes it.
• With double metacats, the criterion that is different for each subcat goes first.

Political people from Russia

"Political people" is totally meaningless and there's already more descriptive categories for people that are actually involved in politics as an occupation. So I don't really think the category, or similar ones, are worth having. Per Commons:Categories "We should not classify items which are related to different subjects in the same category. There should be one category per topic; multi-subject categories should be avoided. The category name should be unambiguous and not homonymous." "Historical transcontinental empires"

A couple of things. "Historical" categories are being phased out in favor of "history." Every other category having to do similar subjects is "history", not "historical." Also there is no category for transcontinental empires to begin with. So the category makes zero sense. I don't think it's necessary anyway but at least name the category correctly and create one for transcontinental empires if your going to do it. Although it seems like you to just mass create categories regardless of if they make sense or actually help people organize images. So I'd ask you just not to. Leave those types of categories to Wikipedia or another project. Just to add to that, it looks like you created Category:Modern history by country when Category:Modern history redirects to Category:Modern period. Again, I'd say such a category is totally pointless and doesn't help people organize images but it shouldn't be that hard to follow the naming conventions for similar categories. Over categorization

Hi. You keep putting Category:Russian Empire in top level categories for the history of Russia when it's already in child categories for the same, or similar, ones. Which is clearly over categorization. It's totally pointless to put it 25 different ambiguous categories for history, time period, historical era, date, Etc. Do you understand that "Evolution" has a difference sense of meaning here? Category:Facades by style by country

Hi, Allforrous. Thanks for adding the metacat template to this category. I noticed that you had the parameters in the wrong order, though, so I changed them. I know it seems wrong to have the metacat parameters in the opposite order from the category name, but that's the way it's supposed to go.

One way to tell which order the metacat parameters should be in is to look at what's different among the subcats. In this case, each subcat specifies a different country, so that's the parameter that should go first. Another way is to look at the category name like this: "Facades by style" is the category topic, and "by country" is the sort criterion so "country" goes first.

Hello ... please stop inserting pages into Category:Structure ... putting in every single chemical structure, every single construction, every single event, mathematical and programming-related stuff ... etc would result in a huge mess of gazillions of files having very little to nothing common.
