Category:Brick buildings in Lazio

Hi Deltaspace, on my complaint you answered, you had corrected the spelling. But there is (was) no spelling error in the title of this Category.--Ulamm (talk) 20:55, 19 December 2025 (UTC)

@Ulamm: in the original title there was a word "buldings", I corrected it to "buildings". Deltaspace42 (talk) 21:10, 19 December 2025 (UTC)

"in" vs. "from"

I believe what you did with Category:Reliefs from Myanmar was wrong. For example, File:Jadeite cabochon from Myanmar - Burke Museum.jpg and File:Jadeite rose disk from Myanmar - Burke Museum.jpg are both from Myanmar, but were photographed in Seattle. - Jmabel ! talk 01:07, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

@Jmabel, hello! Yeah, I realized my mistake, I will revert my edits. Deltaspace42 (talk) 09:19, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
@Jmabel, I fixed my mistake and added descriptions in categories of type "<Objects> from <country>" which tell how they are different from categories "<Objects> in <country>", so that someone else doesn't erroneously merge these categories as I did. Deltaspace42 (talk) 11:10, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
Thanks! - Jmabel ! talk 20:49, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

Dude

You really need to think before you act. If you want to force U.S. spellings on Australians, and then specify the "universality principal", then you need to start to think about what makes U.S. spelling so "universal". Because I could reasonably then argue that the correct spelling is the English/Australian spelling.

A bit of thought would have shown that for spellings like "organisations" vs "organizations" you are better off using the regions spelling variant.

As a fellow Australian, I support Bidgee. If you try to enforce U.S. spelling on me, I find it arrogant and imperialistic. Something the U.S. seems to be sliding towards. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 15:48, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

@Chris.sherlock2, I've just withdrawn my nomination seeing that the consensus is against using the US spelling in these categories: Commons:Categories for discussion/2026/01/Category:Organisations of Australia. And I started new discussion about the United Kingdom where I suggested renaming to use the UK spelling here: Commons:Categories for discussion/2026/01/Category:Organizations of the United Kingdom. If you want, you can leave a comment there.
My goal was not to enforce the US spelling, I am not even from the US. I just wanted the consistency in the naming. Since you and other users are against renaming Category:Organisations of Australia, I went to the other direction and suggested renaming Category:Organizations of the United Kingdom in order to establish consistency.
I now know that I should start a discussion before initiating controversial renames. Sorry if I offended you. Deltaspace42 (talk) 16:24, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

Thank you!

Hello, just wanted to leave a big thank you for your amazing work on solving Categories for Discussion threads (CfD).
This is an important backlog that has been in a big need of somebody like you to go through and I don't know why nobody else seems to have done this the last years to a comparable extent when it comes to CfDs on my Watchlist but it's great to see somebody taking at it now. Please always make sure to fully implement the solution when closing CfDs; I noticed at least one case where 3 categories where named that had to be removed but you only removed two when closing. If you have any ideas on how to get more users to do what you're doing, please let me know.

In the hopes you keep at it, Prototyperspective (talk) 19:11, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

@Prototyperspective, hello! Thank you for your kind words! After closing CfD, I immediately merge/rename/etc. the discussed category (subcategories), but there are categories where I didn't fully implement the solution:
  • Category:Female actors by country - after closing the discussion and renaming part of the Category:Female actors tree I got to this "by country" category and realized just how much work is yet to be done, and I think that it should be completed by some bot, but I don't know where and how to do it.
  • Category:AI-generated images by subject - after closing the discussion and renaming several categories I realized that deep in the category tree there are too many categories to be renamed. Furthermore, some categories, including those that were mentioned in the discussion (e.g. photographs, art), don't really need to be renamed because I don't see ambiguity mentioned in the discussion, so I stopped.
I would place notice (tag) in these categories with something like "consensus was reached to do X, and volunteers are needed to complete it fully", but I don't know whether a template for it exists, and how to do it properly. Deltaspace42 (talk) 19:34, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
and realized just how much work is yet to be done, and I think that it should be completed by some bot, but I don't know where and how to do it & I realized that deep in the category tree there are too many categories to be renamed Issues like this is exactly what my request/question at Commons:Village pump/Technical/Archive/2025/10#How to move (rename) many categories? was about. It's archived now but I'm planning to create a wish in the Community Wishlist so this could be supported again by people who see value in such a tool. For now, you could maybe request this task (and maybe other tasks like it) at Commons:Bots/Work requests. I would place notice (tag) in these categories with[…] I don't think a template (or a practice) for this exists. Better to add a category to the CfD page like Category:Closed CfDs waiting for completion of solution or sth like that. Prototyperspective (talk) 19:48, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

A beer for you!

At at your many rename requests you deserve a naitonal clod beeer from Gremany. If you like drinking beer, otherwise just imagine something else. (Typos are intentional) Best regards, זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 19:05, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
@Ziv, hello! Thanks for the beer! Deltaspace42 (talk) 19:06, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
Haha enjoy! You found some hilarious typos. זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 19:30, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
Hello @Deltaspace42.
It's me again.
It's not the quantity that matters, but the accuracy. Please work a little more precisely and slowly, check your suggestions more carefully, then you should notice typos like these in File:Phoenix-Musical Intrument Museum-Taylo Swift Les Pual guitar.jpg or File:Phoenix-Musical Intrument Museum-Elavis Presely exhibit-2.jpg. It is pointless to correct only the word "instrument" if the other typos like "Taylo Swift Les Pual" and "Elavis Presely" are ignored. The file would then have to be moved again, and we'd like to avoid that. Furthermore, I'd like to suggest that for meaningless names that contain a spelling mistake, you could consider how to improve the filename. Even if a spelling mistake is corrected, the name remains meaningless. I remember some files from Fez, Morocco. They probably could have been named better and more clearly. Best regards, זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 17:34, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
@Ziv, ok, I will be careful next time, thanks! Deltaspace42 (talk) 17:36, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
Many thanks from my side for your work! Keep on keeping on! Best regards, Msb (talk) 16:06, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

Hi Deltaspace42, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all occurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

That was fast

Thank you for moving the three files with a "^" in their names so quickly, amazingly quickly. I noticed you then edited the enWiki article which used them. I was surprised this was not a bot driven process. Seems like a lot of hard work for a typo! 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 16:28, 1 April 2026 (UTC)

@Timtrent, hello! The script automatically replaces names on enWiki (and other wikis where the file is used), so I had to press only one button and the script did everything on its own. Deltaspace42 (talk) 16:30, 1 April 2026 (UTC)
That is good to hear. It looks like less hard work, but still requires an eye for detail 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 16:32, 1 April 2026 (UTC)

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Abzeronow (talk) 01:30, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

Removal of the “Editatona” category

Hello, I’m writing to raise a complaint about the mass removal of the categories “Editatona in Mexico” and “Editatona in Spain” that you’ve carried out across dozens of files. Here you can read more about what an “editatona” is and how it differs from a conventional edit-a-thon. It is a category in which, based on community consensus, fellow contributors from different countries join together to upload their photos from events taking place around the world. So I will overlook this for now, assuming you do not have all the relevant information, so I will revert your changes and return the files to the categories where they were.

Interestingly, your decision comes after this comments for discussion that you initiated and in which I am participating. I’d like to think it’s a complete coincidence. ProtoplasmaKid (talk) 05:32, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

@ProtoplasmaKid, hello! I was just going through categories, and I thought that it was accidental duplicates and decided to merge them. Also because I saw some files with "editatona" in "edit-a-thons" category and thought there was no difference at all between them. Sorry! Deltaspace42 (talk) 08:49, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
I mean, when I looked at category, there were also duplicates with "Wikimedia edit-a-thons in X" and "Edit-a-thons in X" and I just assumed it was a mess with duplicates and merged them. It would make sense to add some notice on "Editatona" categories saying how is it different from "Edit-a-thons". Deltaspace42 (talk) 08:56, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
Interestingly, your decision comes after this comments for discussion that you initiated and in which I am participating. I’d like to think it’s a complete coincidence. - Not really a coincidence, I was just actively going through categories and merging duplicates; when I encountered categories where it would require too many changes and might be controversial, I started discussions. Should have started discussions about "Editatonas" also, instead of just merging them. Deltaspace42 (talk) 09:00, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

thanks

Hi Deltaspace42, thanks for frequently moving the "Starr" files! In one case, the redirect wasn't created correctly: File:Starr 050516-1188 Phoenix sp..jpg (currently a file page without file) should redirect to File:Starr 050516-1188 aerial photograph of Molokai, Kalaupapa Peninsula.jpg. Could you fix this? ~2026-24236-99 (talk) 08:42, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

@~2026-24236-99, hello! I fixed it. I guess it happened because I was moving the files simultaneously and the "replace" from one file conflicted with the moving of the other file. I will pay attention to this in the future. Deltaspace42 (talk) 09:33, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
that makes sense. thanks again. ~2026-24236-99 (talk) 09:48, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

Template coding

Hi there! Thanks for the help with template coding. I tried it (also following the code I remembered seeing at {{USA-churchphotoyear}} awhile back) in this edit, and it quasi-works; however, it's categorizing all pages it's used on into both target categories; see Category:Aerial photographs of Escambia County, Florida (where "Views of..." exists) and Category:Aerial photographs of Martin County, Florida (where it doesn't). I'm not sure what I'm missing here, would you mind taking a look? Thanks for the help! - The Bushranger (talk) 19:08, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

...and I'd just spotted the mistake when you fixed it. I'll be wearing my dunce cap over here now. Thank you! - The Bushranger (talk) 19:29, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

File:1st May demonstration by Isaak Brodsky (1934, GTG).jpg

Greetings. Your argument on declining the recent rename request appears too vague for me to understand. In any case, what this file represents is the 1930 sketch in the Russian Museum, not the Tretyakov Gallery painting as it's been claimed by the uploader. Gleb95 (talk) 20:43, 29 April 2026 (UTC).

@Gleb95, the source specified in the file description (https://rusmuseumvrm.ru/data/collections/painting/19_20/zh-4378/index.php) has 1934 GTG mentioned, so I assumed that it's a valid file name, thus no reason to change it; unless the file name refers to completely different painting. File:Tony Stark as a Child Iron Man (14141576355).jpg

Hi, I wanted to ask why you declined my renaming request. The character in the picture is not Iron Man at all, but he's War Machine from the movie Iron Man 2. --Mikirito 07 (talk) 17:32, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

@Mikirito 07, hello! Yeah, I understand, but you replaced "Tony Stark" with "War Machine" and left Child Iron Man there, so I thought that it was a mistake. Deltaspace42 (talk) 17:34, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't notice. I remade the request with the correct name. Mikirito 07 (talk) 17:35, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

File:FlexsionExtension2017.jpeg

Hi! I saw you reverted a rename request for File:FlexsionExtension2017.jpeg to rename to File:FlexionExtension2017.jpeg. It appears the file name is misspelled. Is this rename request in good standing? Thank you! SomeRailfan (talk) 19:58, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

@SomeRailfan, hello! I declined it because the criterion 3 concerns misspellings in proper nouns according to the file renaming policy. "Flexion" is not a proper noun, and I don't think the change was much of an improvement anyway (with no spaces between words, the file wouldn't show up in search results for "flexion"). I've just moved it to File:Flexion and extension movements.jpg instead. Deltaspace42 (talk) 21:11, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Minor spelling errors

Hi, sorry for disturbing again. I wanted to ask why you declined my renaming requests of DSC09902 - Tony Stark and Ironman (37081230641).jpg, Catwoman and WarMachine DragonCon 2012.jpg and Blackcat cosplayer (14199597617).jpg. In the titles there are minor spelling errors and I think it's right to correct them. --Mikirito 07 (talk) 17:32, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

@Mikirito 07, hello! In the Commons:File_renaming#Which_files_should_not_be_renamed? section, criterion 2 (emphasis is mine):

Files should NOT be renamed only to translate the filename to another language and/or because the filename is not correctly capitalized.

I believe that your rename requests which I declined fall under this criterion. If it was "Irnoman", for example, then I would have renamed it. Deltaspace42 (talk) 12:30, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
Ok, I understand, but at least the title of the image of Iron Man is wrong becuase there is not Tony Stark AND Iron Man, but only Iron Man. Mikirito 07 (talk) 12:33, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
@Mikirito 07, I don't think it's a big enough misidentification to warrant a rename. Tony Stark is Iron Man after all. Deltaspace42 (talk) 12:38, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
Maybe is would be more correct to rename it as "Tony Stark AS Iron Man" Mikirito 07 (talk) 12:41, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
@Mikirito 07, then it would fall under criterion 1 of Commons:File_renaming#Which_files_should_not_be_renamed?

Files should NOT be renamed only because the new name looks a bit better.

Deltaspace42 (talk) 12:43, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
Ok, fair. I also wanted to ask why you declined the renaming request of 2014 Dragon Con Cosplay - Mysterio (14937379460).jpg. In the picture there is no particular emphasis on Mysterio, so I think it would be correct to rename the file with all three characters in the photo. --Mikirito 07 (talk) 12:50, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
@Mikirito 07, I wrote in the summary: "not misidentified just because not all characters are listed in the file name". Deltaspace42 (talk) 12:51, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
Ok, but it's still an error. Mikirito 07 (talk) 12:54, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
@Mikirito 07, your re-requested renaming under criterion 6 is even more wrong. The criterion is absolutely not applicable here. Deltaspace42 (talk) 12:55, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
Which criterion you suggest? Mikirito 07 (talk) 12:57, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
@Mikirito 07, none of the criteria applies in this case, so the files should not be renamed. Deltaspace42 (talk) 12:58, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
Ok, I get it. Mikirito 07 (talk) 13:01, 1 May 2026 (UTC)

File:Telefony iskrobezpieczny Telvis TIG.jpg

Hi, I noticed that my rename request has been denied. However, I disagree.

Telefony is the plural form of telefon, and I assume that it was a typo on @SPUTNIK 1's end. The adjective iskrobezpieczny is in its singular masculine form, not plural, which backs my reasoning up. I know I shouldn't expect a foreigner to understand Polish grammar, but I hope this explanation will help.

I'll be happy to see you reconsider your decision. ElectroTiel (talk) 15:49, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

@ElectroTiel I understand that it's a grammatical mistake, but I don't believe it falls under criterion 3 which is reserved for misspellings in proper nouns. In this title, only "Telvis" is a proper noun. I would have renamed the file even if there were a spelling mistake in "telefon" instead of "Telvis" (e.g. "teleofn"), but in this case, the mistake is grammatical, not spelling. Deltaspace42 (talk) 16:12, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
In that case I think a rename is still worthy due to the mistake I pointed out. I don't come on Commons too often, so I might have wrongly assumed Criterion 3 for this one. ElectroTiel (talk) 16:15, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

Rename requests

Can you explain why you've rejected so many of my requests? There is no person here named Khiem Tran Thien or Tran Thien, this is a former prime minister. I don't need to endure this slander. --Henry (dat) 23:13, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

@Henrydat, you just reordered words in the file name; and in one of the file names you added diacritics. These are not valid reasons to rename the files. Please review the file renaming policy before making another request. Deltaspace42 (talk) 23:16, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
I'm not forcing anyone to add diacritics to English, and because they have the same name, the correct name is "Trần Thiện Khiêm". These files were uploaded by a LTA user for bad purposes and therefore need to be renamed. --Henry (dat) 23:37, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
By the way, the order of the names cannot be changed. --Henry (dat) 23:41, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
@Henrydat, I understand that these names are not perfect, but the files can only be renamed under criteria 1-6. Criterion 2 doesn't apply here because the names are not ambiguous. Criterion 3 doesn't apply here either because the issue is in the order of words, not the spelling. Deltaspace42 (talk) 23:46, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Can I request based on criterion 4? I requested that the Category:Trần Thiện Khiêm upload by ArmenAfro89 be deleted, so they doesn't match the other files in parents category. Furthermore, what should I do with files whose proper nouns have been changed the oder? Thank you. --Henry (dat) 00:06, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
@Henrydat Criterion 4 is reserved for files that are parts of the whole (e.g. pages of a book), and for files which need specific naming convention for some template to work. These renamings don't fall under this criterion. Deltaspace42 (talk) 10:40, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

Please undo your closure of the following deletion request

Hi, regarding Commons:Deletion requests/File:Destructions in Kyiv after Russian attack, 2026-01-09 (01).jpg, the closure of the DR was a bit premature. I know I've basically argued to keep the file and, combined with Ikan Keke's INUSE argument, this might have misled you into keeping it but there's another issue with the photo (which I guess I should've explicitly mentioned instead of just relying on the closer's expertise): there's no freedom of panorama in Ukraine (see COM:FOP Ukraine). Buildings are protected by copyright in Ukraine and publishing CC-licensed photos of them without the architect's permission constitutes copyright infringement. Nakonana (talk) 16:54, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

@Nakonana, hello! I saw the following in the licensing information:

This file comes from the website or social media of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. In short: you are free to distribute and modify the file as long as you attribute dsns.gov.ua.

This is a government website in Ukraine. I assume this license is sufficient to keep the file. However, you can renominate the file for deletion if you disagree. Deltaspace42 (talk) 17:54, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
No unfortunately that's not sufficient because the Ukrainian government does not own the copyright for the building. There are similar cases: Azerbaijan also has no freedom of panorama (see COM:FOP Azerbaijan), but president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev really loves to travel his country (see Category:Ilham Aliyev in cities and regions of Azerbaijan) and being photographed while doing so. His website then releases those photos under a CC license (see the license tag {{President.az}}). But all the president can do is to make the photos CC-licensed but not the depicted buildings (unless he changes the law to introduce freedom of panorama) and thus his photos are commonly being deleted due to lack of FoP in Azerbaijan. There are plenty of deletion requests to demonstrate how Commons handles cases of governments publishing PD/CC photos of buildings which are still protected by copyright due to a lack of FoP: .
I came to your talk page instead of just re-opening the DR because I'm aware that there is/was a complaint about your DR closures on the admin noticeboard. I thought it would look better if you'd self-revert after being made aware of the FoP issue. If an experienced admin had closed the DR they would have probably taken the FoP situation into account and ultimately would have deleted the file. Someone might argue that the depicted building is below the threshold of originality, but we don't have any information on the TOO in Ukraine (see the non-existing page COM:TOO Ukraine), therefore the precautionary principle applies (COM:PCP). Nakonana (talk) 18:47, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
@Nakonana I think many files like this need to be nominated in one batch, in Category:Attack on Kyiv, 9 January 2025 and the parent categories. What do you think? Deltaspace42 (talk) 18:51, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
Regarding the linked category, File:Destructions in Kyiv after Russian attack, 2026-01-09 (03).jpg can stay on Commons because it only shows debris and a car, but as for the others that depict buildings (and/or statues), yeah, those should be nominated for deletion. In some cases the deletion discussion might reveal that a depicted building is several centuries old and therefore out of copyright, or it may be found that some depictions are COM:DEMINIMIS, in those cases the images may be kept, but otherwise they likely need to be deleted. Nakonana (talk) 19:04, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
@Nakonana Then I think it would be better that this file is renominated for deletion together with some other files with similar issues than me reverting the Kept result for this particular file. Deltaspace42 (talk) 19:08, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!

Hi everyone,

Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.

Here are your top three winning images:

You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results

I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.

Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
