Repeated DR transclusion in daily list
Hello Timtrent, thank you for your effort for cleaning up the mass Flickr uploads.
Just a reminder that if you decide to nominate images with the same DR page name using DR tools (e.g. VFC), can you make sure that the DR page isn't transcluded repeatedly in the daily list?
Please see my revert edits here and here.
This is because each transclusion will transclude the whole DR page, which means the each of the 7 sections you have created were all displayed 7 times repeatedly. So, these were flooding the daily DR list, making it very difficult to check the other DRs for today. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 13:32, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Tvpuppy I am surprised there were identical ones. I use VFC and trust it. I have created several DRs for portions of that category because it contained over 4,000 files, and, to the best of my knowledge and belief, all are mutually exclusive.
- May I ask you respectfully to check your edit in case the similarity of the file names caused any confusion?
- I am open to suggestions of a simple way of handling this mess. So far the only mechanism I can see is slogging through the task, while accepting that some errors are inevitable 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 13:38, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hello Timtrent, thank you for your quick reply
- I checked and all the entries I removed all belong to the same DR (and of course I only left one entry behind in the daily list).
- If you use VFC to nominate images for DR, and you searched for the images using category name, the VFC tool will by default put the images in the DR page "
Files in <category name>". And if search and nominate DRs multiple times with the same category, VFC will subsequently add the same DR page to the daily DR list over and over again. - I think it is completely fine to use VFC for mass DRs (probably the best tool to use), but my suggestion for categories with a lot of images (i.e. just like this one with 4000 images) are as follows:
- Check the DR daily list to check for any repeated entries
- You can post-edit the DR page to rearrange and group the list of images, making it easier to users participate in the discussion and closing admin to process the images to keep or delete. For example, you can rearrange and group images under subheaders such as "Images only containing people" or "Images that are blurry".
- You can use {{Collapse top}} and {{Collapse bottom}} to collapse the list to make it easier for users to scroll to the bottom to see the discussion below.
- You can struck any images you decide to withdraw nomination by adding
<s>...</s>to them.
- Also, just letting you know in case you're not aware, I believe the VFC tool allows you to change the DR page name in the section called "Insert the heading for the mass deletion request".
- Finally, I just want to reassure you that it's a common mistake I often see by many users, and usually I will just remove the repeated entries when I see it. However, since I assume you will continue to use VFC to create mass DRs, I thought it might be useful to give you a reminder.
- Thanks again for your effort in cleaning up and for creating the thread here. Tvpuppy (talk) 14:17, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Tvpuppy Thank you for being like Santa, Checking it once and checking it twice. And for the extra informaton. I will improve and continue to try my best to get it right. I will still make mistakes, but different ones/ 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 15:06, 18 March 2026 (UTC)

Clarification

You described these as "None is COM:INUSE, none has a useful filename, none is categorised."
How are those not useful filenames? Thank you. DS (talk) 17:37, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
- Grumpy Cat is a real cat not this cat. The other names are generic for random cats. Feel free to state at the DR that you feel these should be excepted 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 18:03, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
- To further clarify, is it your assertion that there is only one cat who can ever be called "Grumpy"? DS (talk) 21:28, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
- @DragonflySixtyseven Many cats are called grumpy, yes, but see w:en:Grumpy Cat, which is a remarkably famous cat. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 21:55, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
