Wondering about Source of African Map

Hi Eric, My name is Charis. I'm a research assistant working on tracking down maps for a study regarding terrain and war outcomes. I found a map of Egypt under the Muhammad Ali Dynasty that is of interest to me (link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Egypt_under_Muhammad_Ali_Dynasty_map_en.png). The metadata of this image seems credit you as its original source. Is this map your original work or is it a scan? If it is a scan, do you mind sharing your source? Thanks so much, Charis. CharisDay (talk) 22:48, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

Hello Charis.
I'm the author of the background map. The area shown in this map is a crop from my File:African_continent-fr.svg.
For the historical part, the data come from books which are indicated in the "Quellen" (sources) section in the description of this map. For more information you should contact Don-kun who made the map.
I hope this helps. Greetings. Sting (talk) 13:57, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
Eric,
Thank you very much. I appreciate your help! CharisDay (talk) 14:42, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

Use of your Socrates bust photograph in a published book

Hi Eric,

I am writing to let you know that I intend to use your photograph of the Socrates bust (1st century BC) in my forthcoming book, Carved by Time, to be published via Amazon KDP.

I am using the image under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.5 Generic license, and will credit you as follows:

Photo: Eric Gaba (Wikimedia Commons user: Sting) / Wikimedia Commons / CC BY-SA 2.5, unmodified.

I noticed your request for notification on the Wikimedia Commons page and wanted to reach out as a courtesy. The book uses historical artifacts as leadership metaphors, and your photograph of the Socrates bust illustrates a chapter on ethics and virtue in leadership.

Please feel free to contact me at the address below if you have any questions or concerns.

With thanks and kind regards, Sean Stewart seanstewart128@gmail.com Ulie557 (talk) 20:43, 27 March 2026 (UTC)

File:Global Usage of the Pound and Dinar.svg

Hello, Sting.

In File:Global Usage of the Pound and Dinar.svg, can you add the UK overseas territories Chagos, Gibraltar, and Saint Helena and its dependencies, from File:Global Usage of the Pound and Lira.svg, because they use the Pound as their official currency? The original uploaders of both maps are no longer active. Can you apply it?

Yours sincerely, Kurcke (talk) 06:30, 28 March 2026 (UTC)

Hello Kurcke. It's done. Sting (talk) 14:42, 29 March 2026 (UTC)

New Caledonia and Vanuatu Map

Hello, My name is Jared, and I am an intern at Smithsonian Folkways Recordings.

Our team is developing a series of curriculum materials for educators called Smithsonian Folkways Music Pathways, designed to address disparities in K–12 classrooms and be used as resources in nontraditional educational spaces. These resources will be provided FREE to educators, everywhere. Each pathway focuses on a particular historical, cultural, geographic, or musical theme (e.g., The Music Cultures of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders).

We want to give you a heads-up that we will be using New Caledonia and Vanuatu Map in our slideshow while following the guidelines of the associated Creative Commons license.

You will receive full credit in any educational material. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! We would love to continue this conversation.

Thank you, Jared ~2026-21317-33 (talk) 02:41, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

Hello Jared. Thank you for the information. You are welcome to freely use the map of New Caledonia and Vanuatu for your needs. Sting (talk) 12:41, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

Toponym corrections for "Crete topographic map-fr.jpg".

(including the Charta of Rigas Feraios), there are two specific points that require attention in the eastern part of the island: Oros Thrypti & Oros Orno: There is a swap between these two mountain ranges. Specifically, the label "Orno" is currently placed where Thrypti should be, and the label "Thrypti" is placed where Orno is located. Sitia Mountains (Dikti): The mountain range currently labeled as "Sitia Mountains" (Massif de Sitia) is historically and traditionally identified as Mount Dikti (or the eastern extension of the Dikti range), a nomenclature supported by significant cartographic works such as the Charta of Rigas Feraios. I believe these adjustments will further enhance the accuracy and value of this map for the community. Thank you for your contribution to the project and for your time in reviewing these corrections. Best regards, Στυλιανός Μητρόπουλος. ~2026-21488-19 (talk) 04:46, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

Bien cordialement, Stylianos Mitropoulos Στυλιανός Μητρόπουλος ~2026-21488-19 (talk) 06:01, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

Carte de la Sarthe

Bonjour Monsieur Gaba. Benoit Paquet président ABSA 39-45 ~2026-29486-56 (talk) 09:31, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

Bonjour Monsieur Paquet. Sting (talk) 14:16, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
