Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Cosby Schumer.jpg
| This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Cosby Schumer.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

File tagging File:Annette Andre in the music video for You've Lost That Feeling, 1965.png
This media was probably deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Annette Andre in the music video for You've Lost That Feeling, 1965.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Annette Andre in the music video for You've Lost That Feeling, 1965.png]]) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Critically evaluate Flickr licenses |
File:Andre, c. 1969 or 70.jpg has been marked as a copyright violation. You may have preserved the information shown on Flickr correctly when transferring the image here, but the Flickr uploader is not the copyright holder of this image. Either the image was created by someone else, or it is a derivative of someone else's work. As stated in Commons:Licensing, only the copyright holder may issue a license, so the one shown on Flickr is invalid.
Always remember to critically evaluate Flickr licenses. Photostreams with professional-looking photographs, album covers, posters, and images in a wide range of styles or quality taken by many different cameras often indicate that the Flickr uploader either does not understand or does not care about copyright matters. See Commons:Questionable Flickr images for a list of known bad Flickr users.

Keep:This is not copyrighted, I guarantee you. The image was published in 1954 and it is technically in the public domain. Why do you constantly claim that I'm violating laws, I'm not, this images copyright expired since it was published in 1954. Are you trying to purposely ban me? If so, you are technically violating the rules of this wiki, constantly spamming people with notices is no good. Bacromisee 8:15am (UTC) April 23, 2020
File copyright status
Welcome to Wikimedia Commons. While everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the project, one or more of your file uploads had missing or false information regarding its source and copyright status. Please note that Wikimedia Commons takes copyright rules and infringement very seriously. Files may only be uploaded and included if their copyright status meets the conditions stated in our licensing policy, and if their provenance is clearly documented. Files that fail to meet those conditions may be deleted, and users who fail to meet them may be blocked. Please follow our first steps, if you haven't already. If you have questions, feel free to ask at the Village Pump copyright question page or on my talk page. Thank you.

- Hi. First please notify me using {{ping|Patrick Rogel}} if you want that I get your messages. You are active for 2 weeks on Commons and have already 15 files put on deletion (one per day) hence this warning notice which is displayed in such occasions to every user's page so I'm sorry you are the only one on Commons to see them as spam. Regarding your accusations of "violating the rules of this wiki", you should too enquire yourself before saying silly things. Nevertheless the warning notices and the different discussions I had with you on the deletion request have an educative goal: to learn how to improve your contributions to Commons. At this day, I saw several problems indeed:
- copyright violations: contrary to what you are stating your last files are clear copyvios: the license tag you put on them says that they have been published "without a copyright notice" but the footers on the photos themselves have a copyright mark and restriction of use for some of them. Please note File:Jim Carrey in The Duck Factory, 1984.png has been deleted by Administrators for the same reason one week ago and File:Annette Funicello painting in the Disney's Wonderful World of Color episode 'Escapade in Florence', 1962.jpg not later than yesterday so it seems you haven't learned yet;
- recurrent misuse of license templates: the case of Commons:Deletion requests/File:The East Is Red (movie poster), 1965.png speaks for itself. It seems you have choosen to upload this image regarding of it was free or not and tried later to change the license templates until one fits including in contradicting you (you said that work was anonym despite having displayed the author's name) or submitting false informations (you told that the source said the file was in public domain");
- incapacity of recognizing a bad Flickr account: this problem is less common. Anyway you have to critically evaluate Flickr licenses. Photostreams with professional-looking photographs, album covers, posters, and images in a wide range of styles or quality taken by many different cameras often indicate that the Flickr uploader either does not understand or does not care about copyright matters.
In short, don't forget that you are accountable for the bad uploads you make and that volunteers are not here to babysit you, moreover if they are not welcomed in return. So I recommend you to think carefuly about the license templates BEFORE you upload, to care about copyright mentions BEFORE you upload and to critically evaluate Flickr images. In any case and if you are not sure, you'd better upload nothing at all. If you think you are not able to improve your contributions you should focus instead on more simple tasks like uploading photos by you or (very) old images (e.g. more than 70 years old). Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 09:14, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello Bacromisee.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |

Affected:
Heya no offense but Clifford is public domain..
The book did not have it's copyright renewed and even SDudley who works with Duke confirmed the 1963 book is public domain because it was not renewed in 1991, Jennifer only included CLifford in the 2020 list because is if Clifford WAS renewed, but he wasn't:
File:CliffordTheBigRedDog1963.pdf - Wikimedia Commons
SO do not remove him, please? thank you @Bacromisee ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 23:31, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
- Ok then. I found a renewal for Clifford the small red puppy (https://publicrecords.copyright.gov/detailed-record/voyager_7713152), but found no renewals for Clifford the big red dog (https://publicrecords.copyright.gov/search?page_number=1&query=%22Clifford%20the%20big%20red%20dog%22&field_type=%22title%22&records_per_page=10&sort_order=%22asc%22®istration_class=%22RE%22&model=%22%22), so maybe you're right. Bacromisee (talk) 23:49, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
- yeah, me too lel.
- Anyway nice to meet u btw. I wasn't trying to be mean just correcting ya dat all ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 00:27, 17 August 2025 (UTC)
I don't think the renewal pages are for Gumby on the Moon.
Gumby on the Moon was the second pilot and i doubt it counted when registered because it aired before the registration, Howdy Doody has episodes in the public domain and were recorded i think? but i could be wrong. ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 19:49, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- Was Gumby: Sample renewed? if published i mean. ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 19:49, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- It's a live show. I looked it up (https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/its-howdy-doody-time/) Gumby is still copyrighted, some Gumby episodes are in the public domain. For Gumby Sample, IDK. Apparently there was a DVD release of this offically, possibly as a special feature. (https://youtube.com/watch/r4ZHmFUesKg?si=KTr6PgXb7liw1VeM) Bacromisee (talk) 23:47, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- idk, The wikipedia page states episodes from the series are indeed PD and sold on dvd despite being aired "Live" ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 00:42, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- Gumby on the Moon could be public domain since while Howdy Doody is a live show, Gumby on the moon was made before Howdy Doody and couldn't find no renewals for Gumby on the Moon

- Put this under yellow for now, because the episodes from 1956 are renewed, and only the 1940s episodes of Howdy Doody are public domain, maybe in the old Copyright catalogues on Archive.org has renewals for the Howdy Doody episode, or maybe the public records website, IDK. The 28th year after 1956 is 1984, so maybe search under the Howdy Doody episodes. I still don't know how to search live episodes of the Howdy Doody show, and Gumby Sample is unpublished, so IDK how unpublished works work under copyright law. Thx for asking. Bacromisee (talk) 21:34, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
- your're welcome and I put one on archive

Kokette and Moe should be public domain.. but i had to remove info for now due to complications.
No offense Barc, but the renewals you showed were registrations and not renewals at all, the only episodes that were renewed were the ones published/aired in 1963. Renewal records begin with "R" or "RE" V is for transfer of the copyright, but the problem is, is that the show never registered the episodes properly. So i don't get why they are trying to transfer a already possible expired copyright.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain_in_the_United_States.
There are no renewals for the first episodes at all, so they don't seem to be under copyright. Even Lost Media wiki doesn't mention if they are under copyright or not. They were likely published when they first aired.. so i don't get it.
I know you are trying to help, but for now i had to remove the info off Koko's entry right now since it's a bit complicated.. No offense mate. ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 05:08, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- It's ok, as long as yo keep the entry itself, I know it's a little complicated. Like I said, as long as you keep the entry. Bacromisee (talk) 21:58, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- okay. I will keep the entry for Koko, but i don't think any more characters should be added for now since it seems a bit long enough for now. and maybe re-add Kokette and Moe at a different date perhaps. Idk ZigZagTheTigerSkunk (talk) 22:54, 9 December 2025 (UTC)

Hello Bacromisee, the new year starts with restorations. The US copyright for this illustration by Rockwell Kent expired yesterday. I've restored it today. Best wishes for 2026, AFBorchert (talk) 06:50, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. Bacromisee (talk) 00:02, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
