Oh well... I thought this day would never happen but to my shock User:AGK gave me a range block I cannot evade... *sigh*...Its such a sad day... Oh well sorry if I pissed you off in these past few months...--Mr Wiki Pro (talk) 19:53, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
Hey, man. I forgive you. Just please try your best not to cause anymore trouble. I don't know just how hard that would be for you, but you have to give it a shot. If you replace your disruptive activities with positive contributions, I promise that it will go a long way towards rebuilding others' trust in you and a possible re-admission to edit on Wikipedia again. Even if you ban on Wikipedia isn't lifted, you can still refrain from socking there, and you can definitely make positive contributions here. I saw how you combated User:IPhonehurricane95's vandalism on Commons, and I would really like to thank you for that. You really are capable of doing great things on these project sites, and you should really focus on making good edits like those. Your experience here will be a lot more enjoyable here if you do so, I can promise you that. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 02:43, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, I have no intention of returning to disrupt the English Wikipedia. I never was a good troll because I always felt bad after trolling someone. As for Iphonehurricane, it's a second nature to revert him. Over at the Simple English Wikipedia (were I'm far more active) we get some Long-term vandals ranging from the Disney vandal bambifan101 to hoax article created The Deadly TV Series.--Mr Wiki Pro (talk) 15:00, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
Well, that's good to know. And I will always be fighting against vandals and sockmasters whenever I encounter them. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 07:25, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
Ok so it looks like I may have been fibbing when I said the above comment said the above comment but for what it's worth I have now stopped and I am very sorry for annoying you.--Druddigon (talk) 11:24, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
Well, you do look much better off doing anti-vandalism work rather than the socking. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 09:30, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
Thanks
I used one of your photos at the WP Rainbow article. Thanks for the great photo! 216.21.205.118 10:48, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
You're welcome. I enjoy adding photos like those to the photo collection at Commons. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 23:44, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
Sorry
I cannot evade Elockid's rangeblock. Anyways, I'm really sorry for the annoyance I caused you over the past year. I have found better stuff to do than messing around on Wikipedia. Btw some socks written in Traditional Chinese 巴哈姆特電玩資訊站 are probably socks of User:Nipponese Dog Calvero.
Again, sorry for the trouble I caused you and best wishes to you in the future:)
Sincerely,
iPhonehurricane95
Alright, I accept the apology and I will remove those socks from the list. But seriously, please refrain from making unconstructive edits/creating new sockpuppets in the future. I know that you're mad at being blocked, and most recently, infuriated at the unexplained changes in the TC colors, but honestly, so was I. It shocked the living heck out of me, but I knew that screaming out my hatred/rage wasn't going to get me anywhere. You don't have to make disruptive edits to get your point across, in fact, doing so will only worsen other users' trust in you. If you have decided to quit, please show us, but if you really want to return to positive editing someday, I highly recommend that you take Wikipedia's Standard Offer and wait 6 months before making an unblock appeal at WP:UTRS. But hey, thanks for the apology, I really appreciate it. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 18:59, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
Just a little tip: don't do anything that might upset anyone else or arouse further suspicion, and you should be fine. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 19:01, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
Ok. I'm done with socking for good so you won't see any more socks from me. Watch out for sock usernames in the future like Elockid is a neggir, Suuck my cock, etc. those are socks of LTAs more pervasive and are more destructive in severity. Usernames such as Jeffrey24hui are obviously spambots since spambots often use real world names with a bunch of junk in them. Also, I also happen to know that Ginsuloft, Gbgfbgfbgfb, Altigamr, John Daker, David Beals, Evlekis, 1abacada and HoshiNoKaabii2000 are some vandals who create either often very very offensive usernames or usernames with a bunch of junk in them, have a much higher severity than me, and are more likely to offend and/or attack people. A jjajangmyeon vandal will occasionally create accounts on Wikipedia (often korean usernames) and fill pages with korean junk. Nipponese dog calvero will almost always create attacking usernames in traditional Chinese and sometimes In Japanese as well. Please watch out and don't confuse them with the sockpuppet naming patterns I created in the past. Again, I am really sorry about the trouble I caused and I promise I won't sock ever again and best wishes to you in the future.
Okay. Thanks! I'll definitely keep an eye out for this. And I promise that I will always defend Wikipedia (and other Wikimedia Project sites) whenever I come across any vandal. But thanks for bringing this to my attention. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 19:29, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
Abusive Usernames
Forgive me for interrupting but I have been watching recent changes and the user creation log and I have seen a lot abusive account usernames insulting administrators and checkusers. But I have no idea who is responsible for creating them.--BarsofGold (talk) 02:34, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
It could very well be multiple different users; most likely a completely unrelated user. If any of the usernames do not fit the known pattern of User:IPhonehurricane95's known sockpuppets, then it's probably not him. But if this continues, you should go consult an admin. But definitely make sure that accounts like those get blocked indefinitely. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 10:41, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Hello BlueHypercane761, during my research about the collision of Andromeda and milky way I found the picture above. On the description page it is written, that is your own work. But I found the image on a NASA's website . So the Creative Commons licence does not seem to fit to the picture. I have changed the licence and the information template so far. I would be happy for more clearness about it. I am looking forward for your message. Best regards alkab(talk) 01:54, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. Technically, I cropped the image, so it counts as "retouched," but I wasn't able to find the appropriate template at the moment. I also had my suspicions that it was a NASA image, but the website that I found it on didn't really attribute it to anyone, and I didn't want to risk guessing it wrong. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 06:21, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
I don't want to be fastidious or mean but if you found it on a website you have to mention the website.;-) Or at least say that you cropped it from something. Even it was public domain our project requires naming the source and the author and the history of the file (e.g. a cropping). Next time you can look on the template what is given there. But I hope you find more pictures like that which are suited for Commons. Best regards alkab(talk) 13:05, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! I really appreciate this barnstar! Also, you might want to see File:Boko Haram insurgency map.png as well. New vector maps!
Hello! Just wanted to notice that the vector versions of the current civil wars maps ,except Iraq and Syria, has been uploaded. As you may know vector images can take much less size than other types of images (.png) and can be zoomed without quality loss. If you want to make any updates please make sure to apply them on new vector maps .
Thank you!:) Ali Zifan 07:58, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello BlueHypercane761, thank you for your contributions on Wikipedia; however, the map of the Yemeni Civil War is correct, according to the Yemeni Civil War detailed map template; you can see it if you want. Continue your work, but please be sure to check in on the detailed maps. Thanks for reading. Tiseptiko 10:26, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
Editing Maps for the Syrian, Iraqi, and Lebanese wars
Hello there. How do you correct map of the war in Syria and Iraq? Can you teach me? have a nice day.Mehk63 (talk) 15:03, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
You will need a photoshop or photo editing software, such as Microsoft Paint of PicPick. And of course, you will have to build up photo-editing skills. There are tutorials on YouTube, in case you are interested. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 00:41, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
Viewing outdated maps issue
Hello there!
When I click on the March 27th version of the map, it shows the older March 20th version. Do you know how to fix this so that it shows the new version of the map?
Thank you! Sunday, 7:01PM EST, 27 March 2016 —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.151.137.254 (talk) 23:01, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
If refreshing the browser doesn't work, then you have to purge your computer's cache. Cleaning up your temporary files could also do the trick. If none of this works, it could be an internet connection problem, or an issue with the website's connection itself. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 02:57, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
I've added a purge button to most of the map templates (after an editor added one to the Syrian Civil War map detailed map template). To make things easier, just click on the button to purge your internet browser's cache, and then confirm that you want to purge your browser cache. This will automatically refresh your web browser, and it should also allow you to see the latest revision of the map. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 05:21, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello BlueHypercane761. I can see that you are not active since 8 July 2016. User:Banak is not active since 7 Sep. 2016. I appreciated your work on the Map of Syria, Iraq, Lebanon.
But I wonder now that it showed areas being freed from ISIS while the other map did show more areas still under control of ISIS. How came that? -- Simplicius (talk) 18:32, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
It's because of those users' differences in opinion, and the sources that they used, I guess. I was busy. I'll try to upload new maps for the Levant, Iraq, and Syria by March this year. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 06:43, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
My new maps should be uploaded by June 2017, if not sometime later this month. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 02:21, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
Afterward, my next updates should come sometime in August 2017. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 22:29, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
Okay, I've pretty much updated all of the maps pertaining to conflicts in the Levant region. I also added a new color for the Turkish-backed FSA forces, which I will revert if the consensus is against the new color addition (see that map image's talk page if you want to discuss the change; don't do it here). I might make a few more updates this month, otherwise, the next major update will be in August, unless a major change happens before then. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 07:10, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, the next major update for all of the maps will be in December 2017. I have implemented some of the changes, but I don't have enough time right now to fully update all of the maps until December. In the next updates, I will also correct all of the coloring issues that I'm seeing in some of the maps. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 12:11, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi, this is BlueHypercane761. I've noticed a persistent troll on my talk page lately, and it's time that others know about this. He's been trolling me since March 2016, and he's been putting all kinds of different crap on my talk page. If you see anything out of the ordinary or anything that happens to be vandalism, please check the revision history to confirm. If it is vandalism or happens to be from an IP address linked to/similar to the IP range listed below, please revert back to the last clean revision, regardless of any circumstances. Additionally, some of this troll's edits point to potential Sockpuppeteering, and the IPs are probably socks of User:Anibal1, as implied in this attack. The sock farm is known to be operated by ROXELANA22, a known Cross-wiki abuser. As for any administrators reading this message, if you notice the troll IP, please revert and implement an IP Rangeblock, and expand the range as necessary. The block should be at least 6-12 months long each time, with account creation blocked, in order to discourage a vandal as persistent as this guy. Thank you guys for your help. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 09:06, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
The IP troll also has multiple sockpuppet accounts on Commons, including: Pluto reserve an tps43, Categoría Inventos de Alemania, and TroppoRoxxo. The IP troll basically admitted to the socking here, by including a junk image that he himself uploaded, which was later used to vandalize the Spanish Wikipedia. All sockpuppet accounts should be reported to m:SRG for Stewards to Globally Lock the accounts, since this sockmaster is known for cross-wiki abuse. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 03:06, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have grantedautopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 20:27, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
Mostly Done. I implemented most of the changes, but left out the ones for which I couldn't find enough evidence to support a change for. I also made some other changes, based on what I've been seeing in the international news, and polling sources. BTW, in the future, it might be better if you ask for updates on the file's talk page directly. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 21:32, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Why is Georgia aligned with both? MaliMail (talk) 21:38, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
What changed in Sri Lanka and Mozambique? Also I'd say South Africa is aligned with both MaliMail (talk) 21:39, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Botswana should be Blue MaliMail (talk) 21:59, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Georgia is moving towards the Russian orbit. The people are against this move, but the current Georgian Government is increasingly aligned with Russia. Sri Lanka has been China-aligned for quite some time now (and increasingly so), and Mozambique is sliding deeper under Russian influence, with the increase in Wagner operations, and their recent outreaches to Russia. Russia and China have been quickly gaining ground in Africa since 2020, especially in North Africa. South Africa is kinda aligned with both sides, but since 2022, they've been more aligned with Russia and China than they have been with the West, so there's definitely a tilt there. For Saudi Arabia and the UAE, I believe that they're still well within the Western camp, but they've been playing both sides enough that I decided to flip them to the swingy purple for this update. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 21:43, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
makes sense on the Gulf, definitely agree there. I think Wagner left Mozambique but fair. What happened in Tunisia? MaliMail (talk) 22:03, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
also the Galapagos Islands should be blue because they are part of Ecuador MaliMail (talk) 22:04, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Tunisia's President has taken the country back towards autocracy, since the 2021–22 Tunisian Constitutional Crisis. Since then, Tunisia has alienated the West, while moving quickly into Russia's orbit. Wagner is still operating in Mozambique. They're actually trying to expand their operations across Africa (they're looking to move into Mauritania and Chad, for example). I fixed the Galapagos. I missed that bit. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 22:21, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Botswana condemned Russia's involvement in Ukraine and has been supportive of the west. MaliMail (talk) 22:41, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
fair on Tunisia but it should be purple for now. MaliMail (talk) 22:42, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
I haven't seen enough on Botswana yet to color them in on the map. They've kind of flip-flopped in the past, but if the trend holds, they could enter the Pro-West camp. However, this trend might not hold up, based on the latest reports. South Africa currently seems to be more Pro-Russia and Pro-China than they are Pro-West, unfortunately. Tunisia has been sliding fast enough towards Russia's direction that I went with red for them. There's no sign that their trajectory will reverse (absent another revolution). Tunisia seems to be breaking for Russia, whereas Turkey and Pakistan, two other US "allies" that are moving towards Russia, are still trying to game both sides. Tunisia doesn't seem to be playing that game. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 23:20, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Lesotho has abstained from the 2 most recent votes on Ukraine, so I'm not ready to add them yet. I'm looking at overall trends and general support across a variety of different issues, not just one or two votes. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 17:59, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

Burkina Faso is already marked as Pro-Russia. Burundi is definitely pro-China, and leans towards Russia. UN resolutions on Russia's invasion of Ukraine is not the only factor I use to determine which camp a country is in. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 20:09, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi BlueHypercane761, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all occurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move&Replace-tab.
Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.
As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.
Hello. Can you update this map? Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, and Kosovo should be red. On the Wikipedia article, it says "the Global South broadly comprises Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia (excluding Israel, Japan, South Korea), and Oceania (excluding Australia and New Zealand)." So Russia has a huge part in Asia and the Balkan countries of Europe I listed are not developed countries, because of that they should be red. Thank you. Aybeg (talk) 12:11, 26 December 2025 (UTC)
Declined Sorry, but I must decline. Europe, Russia, and Northeast Asia are all Global North. Also, that map is specifically for the official UNCTAD classification of what goes with the "Global North" and "Global South", but those classifications have not yet changed for any country, as far as I'm aware. File:Greater America map.png
Hi, I noticed that the map you created was based on the one Trump posted on social media, but there's a small but easily noticeable detail: Cuba is also marked with the stripes of the American flag, only the media didn't mention it because it's too small and requires zooming in. This includes the comments that Marco Rubio could be the new "president" of Cuba, which would make Cuba part of that Greater America. Taichi (talk) 04:32, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
Man. You're right. I didn't even notice. LOL. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 07:29, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
Sorry, no. Given the huge amount of changes that have happened on the battlefield since the last update, it would take a significant amount of time just to bring the map up to date. The addition of the frontlines by one of the uploaders also makes it more complicated. However, there's a newer version of the map at File:Syrian, Iraqi, and Lebanese insurgencies.svg, which is recent as of February 2026. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 00:48, 6 July 2026 (UTC)

Hey, so I saw you made the Samuel track image. I was wondering if there is any data available for track images to be made for the South Atlantic's two systems so far this year. I would like to use this track data to add to my 2026 global cyclone map. Thanks in advance!
OreoStar-fait (talk) 21:15, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Oreo
Thanks. I currently get my track data from David Herincs' reports, Australia Severe Weather, and the NOAA's OSPO Tropical Bulletins (formerly known as the SSD) for those storms. ASW is known for tracking some South Atlantic systems, as well as some Far Southeast Pacific storms. I believe that the Ocean Prediction Center (OPC) also has track data for some of those storms, but I have yet to locate the majority of their track archives. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 01:31, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
I wonder if MARINHA has an archive of its South Atlantic weather maps. OreoStar-fait (talk) 03:57, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
It's possible. Unfortunately, many of the non-NHC RSMCs have absolutely terrible archiving practices. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 03:58, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
Wow that was fast lol. Perhaps an internet archive contains them? I know one contains JTWC invests OreoStar-fait (talk) 04:03, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
I happened to be online. LOL. Yeah, there might be an archive of those somewhere. Eventually, I expect track data to be released for all those systems. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 06:00, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
Yeah, although in all reality, neither of those SATL systems were actually tropical cyclones, at least under my own analysis. Both were frontal or lacked a well defined circulation. But different agencies have different criteria so.. more power to them I guess? Regardless it is fun to just plot down official data and keep maps up to date OreoStar-fait (talk) 06:15, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
MARINHA has a funny habit of tracking "subtropical" storms that may not even be (sub)tropical in the first place, and occasionally missing a few genuine tropical cyclones (take Tropical Storm 01Q from 2021, for example). At least they're actually monitoring the basin, though. Yeah, it's more storms for us to track. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 06:25, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
I see you're just as obsessed with the South Atlantic as I am, lol. We need more people like this around who pay a lot of attention to it, it has such a unique and interesting cyclone history OreoStar-fait (talk) 06:54, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
LOL. Yeah, I have an obsession with unusual TC basins. Thanks for making the South Atlantic TC summary track map, BTW. Means I have less work to do in generating tracks.BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 07:11, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
Lol no problem, I got in touch with Steve Young and he did reanalysis on the two 2026 systems, he said he would upload it to ASW but idk if it's there yet. You have any track generation projects underway? OreoStar-fait (talk) 07:26, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
I might see if I can salvage some of the missing data for the Southeast Pacific TCs (such as Cyclone Yaku and the other 1983 Ecuador tropical depression). Unfortunately, I would probably have to dig the track data for those out of the SPEARTC archives the hard way, since I can't find the data for those anywhere else. The Southeast Pacific is perhaps the most quiet basin on the entire planet, and unsurprisingly, it's also the most neglected. Besides those, I don't really have any big undertakings planned, now that I've completed tracks for most of the major Medicanes (at least, the ones that have track data on them, anyway). Maybe I'll repair some of my old tracks that I made manually years ago, and occasionally make new maps for storms that still don't have tracks with the new color scheme. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 07:32, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
Oh yes, the SEPAC definitely needs more looking into. I finished making an updated 2023 worldwide map yesterday and ASW's rendition of Yaku's track was included, I would have included the lengthened version but I couldn't properly navigate SPEARTC. I also couldn't find any reliable data on Hannelore or Helios, so I removed those from the 2023 article. However if any reliable data is found I'll definitely add them back:) I am now working on 2022 updated worldwide and Humberto will be included. On top of that, I found a likely SATL system around May 7 2001 while skimming through satellite. Might be worth having a look at 👀 OreoStar-fait (talk) 07:40, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
Do you know of any reliable medicane tracks prior to 2011? I'm also interested in getting some Black Sea cyclones into the new map I've created. File:Mediterranean cyclone tracks.png (Also I miswrote the file name AGAIN ugh) OreoStar-fait (talk) 20:37, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
I'm aware of some additional Medicane track data, including for some pre-2011 storms. They're mostly at David Herincs's site, including systems in recent decades that are almost completely unmentioned on the main en.wiki article, but there's also some storms plotted by some research articles (unfortunately, the track data is rather a pain to obtain from those). I think I already plotted tracks for all the ones I could find, which I've uploaded to Category:Mediterranean tropical-like cyclone track maps. Well, except for a few more obscure ones from some research articles, like the January 2014 Medicane. I also haven't done a comprehensive combing through the Australian Severe Weather site, but it seems that most of the remaining systems there are minor ones (I did not find any of the other major Medicanes I was looking for there). Unfortunately, besides the David Herincs reports and the few storms tracked by the NOAA, there's really only a small handful of systems that appears to have some kind of plottable track data, and those are scattered across journal articles. The 2005 Black Sea Medicane was cited in a journal study and has some kind of track, but not anything I could use (it's all straight lines). BTW, I already plotted all the storms I have track data for at this one. LOL. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 21:01, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
Oh shoot I didn't realize you made one, that's my bad haha. I do have a suggestion tho, I would make the dots and lines smaller, the size that are generally used in summary maps. I think it would be easier to read that way. Oh, and the dimensions I used for mine are: 10W-45E, 20N-55N OreoStar-fait (talk) 21:56, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
Welp, Steven the man did it again. Presumably preliminary data, but that's the guy from ASW who made this dataset OreoStar-fait (talk) 07:18, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
Wow, another South Atlantic hurricane??? Never would've imagined that among the missed dataset. Also, you kinda messed up the file's description section. XD BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 07:23, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
I might be the most forgetful Wikipedian out there lol. But yeah, the imagery I've seen of the storm looks convincing. If the data gets finalized, I wonder if it'll have a higher ACE value than Catarina.. OreoStar-fait (talk) 08:32, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
Maybe not. It seems the May 2001 South Atlantic hurricane only spent a slightly longer period of time as a hurricane, and Catarina made it to Category 2, which is probably enough to give it a higher ACE total. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 08:53, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
Yeahh possibly. We'll see in due time. OreoStar-fait (talk) 08:55, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
It's crazy how both the Mediterranean and the South Atlantic have fielded hurricanes, including one documented Category 2 hurricane each, while the Southeast Pacific has failed to field even a single hurricane (as far as we know). LOL. But given the hostility in that basin, I guess it's really not that surprising. BTW, thanks for the pointer. I used the older version of TrackGen for most of my track maps (for the higher native resolution), which locks the dot sizes at the default size. I might be able to change those settings at the newer site, however. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 09:01, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
I actually have been using the newer site, I really like the map options. And plus you can even generate tracks right from your own phone without having to install any complex generator on a PC. I honestly spend the last break of every work shift I have doing my 0z track updates LOL. OreoStar-fait (talk) 09:05, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
In other news, 2022 is done! OreoStar-fait (talk) 09:16, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
Nice. BTW, here are some more journal articles I found on some other Medicanes with potentially plottable track data: Cornelia (October 1996), which also was a Category 1 hurricane, Zeo (December 2005), the January 2014 Medicane, an article on a May 2003 Medicane, Zeo (December 2005), and Querida (September 2006), and the September 2005 Black Sea Medicane. Unfortunately, all of these require you to manually derive the track coordinates, and some of them are even missing the intensity data (such as the study on the 2003, 2005, and 2006 Medicanes), which would force you to dig into archives from sites like the ESSL or Met Office just to pull the data for those. So there's nothing easily plottable from those, and pulling it off would require an enormous effort. There may be similar studies with tracks on other storms, but I doubt they're any easier to utilize. I will at least try to get the September 2005 Black Sea Medicane track plotted, since it technically has all the information I need, but it would still be a huge pain. This site references a 2017 study that has a huge Medicane track collection (at least, up to 2016, LOL), but none of the actual data points are provided. Oh interesting! I'll have a look soon.:) OreoStar-fait (talk) 14:22, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
I went and made tracks for a few more of them, including the September 2005 Black Sea Medicane. LOL. Went and added those to the Medicanes track map I uploaded. I shrunk down the dot and line sizes by 50% on that one, which should make the map look less crowded. The track data is all there. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 21:23, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
This looks great!! Well done:) OreoStar-fait (talk) 00:55, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
Thanks. LOL. I didn't update your map since I didn't know what line size you were using, and I didn't want to accidentally mess it up. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 22:53, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
Found some more studies on Medicanes, with tracks. This study covers 14 different Medicanes from 2007 to 2021, including Cyclone Anton (March 2015), Cyclone Messala (October 2015), and Cyclone Zissi (February 2016), and this one covers Medicane Julia (February 2012), Anton (2015), Messala (2015), Zissi (2016), Boron (September 2018), plus a January 2009 Medicane. Still no readily-usable track data, though. This article might have some usable track data for Medicane Leucosia (January 1982). BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 11:14, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
Oh fun!!! Wow I'm genuinely surprised the MED isn't an official basin yet with all its activity OreoStar-fait (talk) 11:29, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
Yeah, the Mediterranean basin appears to be at least as active as the South Atlantic (after stripping away MARINHA's subtropical designations for ECs), possibly even more so. The main reason is Academia and local governments don't really want to acknowledge the idea that TCs can actually develop in regions so far beyond the traditional tropical cyclone basins. It's also why the Southeast Pacific is still largely ignored, and why the South Atlantic was neglected for 6 years after Hurricane Catarina hit. There's also Europe's messy politics to deal with if they ever decided to designate the Mediterranean as an official basin (such as who would helm the RSMC). Unfortunately, I think it would take a Medicane Daniel-level disaster in Europe before they actually consider making the Mediterranean basin official, since Medicane Ianos/Hurricane Ianos clearly wasn't enough to do the trick. I don't think anything short of that will produce any movement on that front. But this 2017 study suggests that it would be very much in their interests to turn the Mediterranean region into an official basin. About 1-2 Medicanes form each year on average, typically ranging between TD and TS intensity. Occasionally, one of them will make it to hurricane intensity. And even then, you don't need a full-blown hurricane to produce a massive disaster, which Medicane Daniel demonstrated quite well. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 11:34, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
Maybe an agency like the JTWC could take over for TC bulletins? OreoStar-fait (talk) 12:38, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
They could do that, but without a unified RSMC, you'd get the patchwork approach that we see in the Mediterranean right now. BTW, Daniel Bianchino has a repository on Medicanes, as well as tracks for many of them. Most of those are technically plottable if done manually, but I would probably mostly focus on the more documented systems. LOL. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 20:50, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
Yeahh I would probably do the best documented systems first. Sorry I haven't gotten to anything yet, I've been massively busy irl but I'll get to them when I have time:) OreoStar-fait (talk) 21:04, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
It's fine. LOL. I might tackle several more of those, but probably won't go much further than that without readily-usable track data. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 21:07, 8 August 2026 (UTC)

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
I speak for all users on Commons here when I say that just because you don't like an image doesn't mean you get to delete it. IDONTLIKEIT also applies on this site. If Commons only allowed images using official Government/Academia-sanctioned content, the site would be a mere fraction of the size it is today. And it's very well known to all experienced Commons users that the site does not have any policy against content using unofficial/unrecognized data (and there's even content for fictional entities as well!!). Oh, and there are plenty of low-quality image uploads that I don't like either, but I don't go around putting those up for deletion. BlueHypercane761 🌀 (talk) 06:03, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
