Bots
You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.
What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.
This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.
Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Hi, thanks for checking the categories of this image, but (1) it's a track, not a road, (2) it's in East Lothian, not Scottish Borders (although it's close to the border) and (3) it's on Category:Priestlaw Hill, which you could easily have created. Refining vs. removing
Here and elsewhere, why are you removing year categories rather than refine them? - Jmabel! talk 15:20, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
Hi Gbarta ...
I've reverted this edit, because the category you added is already added Category:Fiendship fountain (Vác). Please be careful not to over-categorize. I'm happy to discuss this with you here if you wish. Regards and happy editing! - - Globetrotter19 (talk) 12:29, 9 July 2016 (UTC)
Kategória
Szia! Tambo (talk) 07:41, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Sort key
Hi, why are you deleting the sort key on several of your edits? Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 19:48, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

Overcat III...
Hi! Would you please stop overcategorizing. A rock guitarist is a guitarsit and a guitarist is a musician so "Rock Guitarists from somewhere" means "Guitarists from somewhere" and "Musician from somewhere". That's all. Thanks LW² \m/ (Lie ² me...) 21:30, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

A Wikidatával való szinkronizálása során az On Wikidata úgy mutatja, mintha már szinkronizálva lenne, pedig nem. --Gbarta (talk) 16:08, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Data deleting
Hallo, please do not delete data unless you move it to Wikidata. Gumruch (talk) 23:25, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
You never acknowledged this message and you still seem to be deleting data. Please respond or do I need to block you to get your attention? Multichill (talk) 21:55, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
I always moves the data before deleting the Wikidata. I don't want you to block me. Most of my edits are correct. I'm sorry if I do something wrong. --Gbarta (talk) 08:22, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Gbarta looking into this file description, I noticed date of birth of Cairn is indicated 1922. Any idea where this can be checked? Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 11:37, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
@Lotje: Citing from AKL (subscription required unfortunately): “Cain, Auguste-Nicolas, frz. Tierbildhauer, Medailleur, *10.11.1821 (nicht 4.11.1822) Paris, †6.8.1894 ebd.” (translation of bold part: “not 4 November 1821”). BTW, Gbarta, you shouldn't remove well sourced data at Wikidata, even if it's wrong, please set the rank to “deprecated” as I've done now.:-) Happy editing you two, --Marsupium (talk) 07:00, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
@Marsupium: thanks for your kind help. Is it allright, if next time I come across something similar, to address myself to you? Lotje (talk) 12:14, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
This is a deletion request for the community to discuss whether the nominated page should be kept or deleted. Please voice your opinion in the linked request above. Thank you very much!
If you created this creator, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
Moin Moin Gbarta, I saw you inserted empty defaultsorts. In fact it's completely unnecessary, because the Wikidata Infobox is sufficient. Regards --Crazy1880 (talk) 20:11, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi Gbarta, is there a reason for the empty {{DEFAULTSORT:}} in categories like Category:Atze de Vrieze? --Arnd (talk) 14:06, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
ok, i will delete them. --Arnd (talk) 06:56, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Category:Michael_Moates has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.
In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Hi Gbarta, on February 5, you changed the 'birth' and 'death' date categories on 'File:JosephHilliardCain Headstone.jpg', and I have reverted them. Please note that his birth year was '1892' and death year was '1962'. You categorized the dates for his wife, Hilda Cain. Regards. Woodlot (talk) 10:45, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
FYI, you sort of "buried the lede" here. I've fixed it. Turns out to be the only picture we have of Charles Odegaard, and I've now cropped that out and added it to his article. - Jmabel! talk 15:21, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
Baseball images at the LOC
I see you categorize baseball images, you should work on the Library of Congress images. They are already loaded here at Commons, but at Flickr, they are given context and better dated by SABR. Here is the latest batch, and there are 50 added each Friday. oldest tranche and newest tranche. You can match them here by searching the name at Flickr. See: 50096825088 becomes File:Urban_Shocker,_St._Louis_AL_(baseball)_LCCN2014715001.jpg. We are currently in the year 1924. Some images in a set are dated on the negative. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 17:37, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Assistance with Creating a Wikipedia Article for Brandon Javan Wright (BHUNNA)
Hello Gbarta, I hope you're doing well. I’m reaching out to seek your assistance in creating a Wikipedia article for an individual named Brandon Javan Wright, professionally known as BHUNNA. He has two notable production credits, with supporting evidence of plaques and editorial work confirming his role in these projects. BHUNNA was the producer of two platinum-certified works: 1 "Walk" by Comethazine feat. A$AP Rocky 2 Track 12 on the "Wrld on Drugs" album by Future & Juice WRLD, where he is credited as a co-producer under his legal name, Brandon Javan Wright. There has been an ongoing challenge regarding the misrepresentation of credits, and I want to ensure that accurate information is documented. Since I’m fairly new to the Wikipedia community, I’m still learning how everything operates. However, I can provide all necessary sources to support the article’s creation. Please let me know if you need anything from me to move forward. I truly appreciate your time and guidance. RhythmWordsmith (talk) 23:44, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
Hello Gbarta, noticing your edit, you might wish to rename the file. Cheers. Lotje (talk) 05:04, 11 March 2025 (UTC)
Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2024 voting is open!
2023 Picture of the Year: Incense plays an important role in Vietnamese life. It is considered as a sacred bridge to connect the visible life of human beings and the world of heaven, earth, and gods. Photo taken in Quang Phu Cau village, on the outskirts of Hanoi, Vietnam. In this picture, incense sticks are being set out to dry, after being dipped in the incense solution.
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2024 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Thanks,

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!
Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
