Lingualibre.org Translations:* import ?
Hello Martin, I hope you are going well in this new year 2026.
May I request your assistance to import the Translations:* dumps of Lingualibre.org/wiki/ to Commons ? I look for someone with server access to Commons in order to import a dump of xml files into Commons. I will provide ~27 xml dumps via Github or else. See the talk cited above for more details. - @Yug Hey, I'm happy to help with that! As far as I can see, you should already have the importer group, meaning Special:Import should allow you to import a XML file. Is that not working?
- In any case, if you want a bulk XML import to be done, I can help with that. The first step would be filling a Phabricator ticket, tagging it with https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/wikimedia-maintenance-script-run and adding the XML files there. Then, myself (or another sysadmin) can take a look at that.

- Hello Martin,
- Special:Import is limited to 20MB xml files and I'm not sure it will handle translations pages when the root page is not yet marked for translation on Commons. (I believe I made a test 3 weeks again which was blocked.) I'm still evaluating my 2 options as seen on the other discussion section, so all feedbacks are appreciate. - "Special:Import is limited to 20MB xml files" ====> Is that really the case? I don't see any limitation mentioned at Special:Import itself. Would you mind providing more details about the limitation (such as, where did you learn about it)?
- " I'm not sure it will handle translations pages when the root page is not yet marked for translation on Commons" ====> Do note that server-side bulk import wouldn't behave any differently – the end result would be equivalent to using Special:Import. If the page needs to be marked for translation, maybe that should be done first? Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help with that, as I'm not a translation admin here.
- "I believe I made a test 3 weeks again which was blocked." ===> I'm not sure I follow. Blocked how/by who?
- I hope this extra information is helpful, @Yug. Let me know if I can help in any other way.

- Hello again,
- For the 20MB limit, it's written in mw:Manual:Importing_XML_dumps#Large_XML_uploads. I observed it: 170MB down to 18 MB xml files all failed multiple times. The error was
Error 202
(The HTTP 202 Accepted successful response status code indicates that a request has been accepted for processing, but processing has not been completed or may not have started. The actual processing of the request is not guaranteed; a task or action may fail or be disallowed when a server tries to process it.)
- I had to split into 6~15MB for my xml to successfully import to Commons.
- For the translations pages import, if the root page is not yet marked as translation (which is the case when we import a new page), then Special:Import rejects the subpages, aka string translations. See for yourself :

Jeseník
Ahoj, vybavíš si, proč jsi přejmenoval v roce 2023 soubor File:Coat of arms of Jeseník (until July 2019).svg?
Zdraví, Martin Urbanec (talk) 19:58, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
