You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
He categorizado tus fotos. Si tienes más fotos de Madrid son muy bienvenidas. Son de gran calidad. Yo me encargo de categorizarlas, sólo déjame un mensaje en mi discusión. Un saludo Triplecaña (talk) 18:06, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Comments Support Good quality. The right crop is a bit unfortunate, the image would be better with a bit more contrast and vibrance. --Basotxerri 19:35, 15 November 2018 (UTC) Comment I can crop out the right door but the resolution has to be lowered a bit and/or the subject has to be moved left, regarding increasing the contrast, no problem to do that but this will darken the shadows in subjects face. About vibrance. Do you mean saturation? Please give your feedbak. Regards. --Nerve net 13:14, 16 November 2018 (UTC) Lightroom which I use differences between saturation and vibrance but yes, mainly I thought about adding a bit more saturation. --Basotxerri 16:11, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Comments Tilted and needs perspective correction. If you haven't got more image space left, you might get in trouble with the crop after fixing the perspective. --Basotxerri 19:37, 15 November 2018 (UTC)Comment IMHO no tilting needed, the land behind the castle has different heights giving that appearance. Hi, I am sorry that this photo has a problem, because it is a high-quality image that would be good to have on Commons. I came across it in Category:Taken with Canon TS-E 24mm F3.5L, where I was looking because I am thinking of bidding for this lens in an auction.
I think that you used the tilt function of the lens to change the plane of focus, so that all the figures are in focus. It would be good to have a photo like this to illustrate the Tilt–shift photography and Scheimpflug principle articles in English Wikipedia, and the corresponding articles in other languages. For this purpose it would be better to have a photo with a background that is more obviously out of focus. Can you create something suitable? Otherwise I may try, if I win the auction. Regards, Verbcatcher (talk) 00:00, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
Verbcatcher, yes I used the tilt function of this lens to move he plane of focus over all figures as much as possible.
Thanks. You are probably aware that these sculptures are copyrighted works of art and that a temporary installation in the public is not sufficient to be covered by Spain's freedom-of-panorama exception. Is there any established agreement between the sculptors and the gallery/organisation about permission of photos of their sculptures, taken during the exhibition on the street? Of course, it would be a pain if we had to delete all these images, but we need be sure about the copyright status of each image to prevent re-users getting into legal problems. Are you aware if there has been a previous deletion-discussion about this exhibition (in earlier years)? --Túrelio (talk) 09:27, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
First: Nothing is stated in any way at the website. Nerve net (talk) 10:14, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
To Second: I had simply assumed that you were also the photographer in the previous years. Seems that was not the case. --Túrelio (talk) 10:24, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
Go ahead and ask them too please. Nerve net (talk) 10:30, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
I'm not a lawyer but so far I could read, the current License CC BY-SA is not the right one to use as it allows the comercial ussage of the images, the comercial ussage is one of the topics that constantly appear in the reffered laws.
In Art. 32: It seems that images can be used freely without express permission of the author for educational o scientific investigation purposes. But I need help from other to ensure to not wrongly interpret this article of the law. Is there a group or team for such issues? Nerve net (talk) 10:55, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
Changing to NC would make them incompatible with Commons, i.e. resulting automatically in deletion. As the problem has been ignored (by us all) for 3 years, we don't need to hurry now. I think I will open (likely not today) a regular (slow) DR for the 3 images from 2019 (other photographer) and 2021 (you) in order to get an evaluation/interpretation of the actual FoP-related jurisdiction in Spain wrt to "permanently installed". In case the result is negative (for our images), I would propose that either you or somebody from Wikimedia-Espana talks to the organizing gallery about the problem and its solution. --Túrelio (talk) 11:06, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
These sculptures will be sold at a charity auction after the temporary exhibition. The temporary exhibition will end on December 15th. So the owner of the sculptures will change.
So far I know the sculptures of the prior exhibitions were also sold in charity auctions. Nerve net (talk) 12:15, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
Ok, though ownership is legally not relevant for copyright, which remains by the artist, if not actively transferred to the buyer. I'll try to open the DR until tomorrow. --Túrelio (talk) 17:11, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Hello Nervenet,
Your upload quality is amazing and your edits don't need regular patroling, can you please request autopatrol at RFR? Your (fantastic) edits clog up the patrol lists, and you getting autopatrol would decrease the work on patrollers. Thanks for your contributions!

As we step into a new year, we’re happy to invite you to take part in “Your Most Memorable Shot 2025.”
Since 2018, photographers from across the Wikimedia community have come together at the beginning of each year to share the photographs that meant the most to them over the past twelve months. Now in its eighth iteration, this tradition continues to be a space for reflection, storytelling, and celebrating meaningful moments through photography.
Whether you are a member of the Commons Photographers User Group or not, you are warmly welcome to participate and invite others too. Every image carries a story, and your perspective helps enrich this collective showcase.
Whenever you’re ready, please select your most cherished photograph from 2025 and share it on the designated page.
The deadline for submissions is 28 February 2026, so we hope you’ll join us before then.
We look forward to discovering the moments that made your year memorable and to continuing this wonderful tradition together.
The world’s traditions are disappearing faster than we can document them, but you can help change that.
On behalf of the Wiki Loves Folklore International Team, we are reaching out to invite you to contribute to the 2026 edition of our global campaign.
Share Your Cultural Heritage with the World

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!
Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,
I hope you’re well and enjoy your time as a photographer on Wikimedia Commons. In my role of the new chair of the user group, I have a couple of updates to share with you.
After the election, the new board met for the first time on March 21 and immediately got to work. We elected the organization’s officers and decided to move from quarterly to monthly board meetings. We believe meeting more frequently will create more opportunities to serve our members effectively and help move the group forward.
We also successfully applied for a pre-conference at the upcoming Wikimania in Paris (July 21–25). If you’re planning to attend the conference, please consider joining us on July 21th for a day full of conversations about photography and Commons. Please sign up here if you’re interested.
And finally, it’s my pleasure to invite you to our first online meeting, which will take place on May 31. Our member Wojciech, an experienced concert photographer, will give a talk on photographing orchestras during live performances. I’m especially excited that we’ll have the opportunity to meet online again and am very much looking forward to this event.
Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Folklore 2026
Dear Nerve net,
We sincerely appreciate your contributions and support in making this year's campaign a remarkable success. Together, we received more than 100,000+ media submissions from over 140 countries, with 1,755 participants taking part in the event.
As we prepare for future editions, we would love to hear about your experience. Please take a few minutes to complete our feedback form and share your thoughts, suggestions, and ideas for improving the campaign.
The results of Wiki Loves Folklore 2026 will be announced soon, so stay tuned!
Thank you once again for being part of this global celebration of folklore and cultural heritage. We look forward to your feedback and hope to see you again next year!
Invitation to the Wikimedia Commons Pre-Conference at the Wikimania 2026
Hello Nerve net,
I want to invite you to participate at our Wikimedia Commons Pre-Conference at the Wikimania in Paris on July 21. If you want to join the pre-conference, please sign up on this page until July 7. Participation at the pre-conference is also possible without a ticket for the Wikimania. If you sign up before the deadline on July 7, you will get free access to the pre-conference day. Unfortunately, online participation will not be possible.
If you have something you want to present or you want to talk about at the pre-conference, please add it here, also until July 7.
There is also a service announcement for all photographers coming to Paris: Unfortunately, France has no freedom of panorama at all. Therefore, Commons does not accept photos of modern buildings, public art or light installations at night. Read more about the problem here.
