First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

VH-OQA and VH-OQC

Please revert your latest changes and remove the table. There is a standard format (which I had reverted to) which should be used. Ardfern (talk) 08:55, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
@Ardfern: appreciate your attempted standardization; however, it would be on my discretion whether to use either table or standard format on the aircraft registration categories. What's your concern with the former, anyway? Refer me to a Commons policy of discouraging the tabular format, if you can; am about finish the same with the Lufthansa A388s, the serials are already accounted for with their nicknames... and am not the only editor who has started using the tabular. ～ POKéTalker（═◉═） 07:24, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hardly a baseless revert to the standard format used on virtually all aircraft. It is not my standardisation by the way, it's just the way it has been done by common practice for the last 15 or more years. But hey, just you do whatever you want. Ardfern (talk) 10:12, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Category:Airbus A350-900 built in 2025

Could you please stop setting up empty categories which contain no images and only info about an aircraft. This info should only be placed against an image and not stand in its own right. Wikimedia is a catalogue of images. Categories with info only and no images will be deleted. I have already speedy deleted some in category:Airbus A350-900 built in 2024 where there were no images. Could you please revert your entries in the 2025 cat, where there are no images. The info you are adding is ultimately useful but should only accompany a relevant image. This is not a catalogue of all Airbus A350s built, but a catalogue of images of Airbus A350s. Ardfern (talk) 21:15, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
All right, but reversions aren't possible at the moment as being pre-occupied in other wikis; please take your (and your peers') time to delete whatever doesn't contain images. Who knows when images of said aircraft be uploaded here... have been seeing occasional (Recreated) in history logs for such lucky additions. ～ POKéTalker（═◉═） 02:11, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
