Notice of namespace-rename "Image" -> "File"
Dear user, the MediaWiki developers recently announced that the "Image:" namespace is going to be renamed to "File:". "Image:" will remain an alias. The canonical namespace name wgCanonicalNamespace will change from "Image" to "File".
I noticed that you use wgCanonicalNamespace in either your monobook.js page or a JavaScript file in your userspace (check this list).
Please check and replace all occurrences of
wgCanonicalNamespace == "Image"
with
wgNamespaceNumber == 6
to ensure that your scripts keep working. Thanks! --Dschwen (talk) 18:41, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
ich wollte gerade eine Datei hochladen. Doch beim Durchsuchen finde ich:Chrome, components, default usw. Damit habe ich gar nichts zu tun. Aber ich finde nicht meine Festplatte! Siehst Du bitte mal nach, was dort nicht stimmt? Danke und liebe Grüße --Heidi (talk) 10:09, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Hallo Heidi,
Trotzdem viele Grüße --Isderion (talk) 00:37, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
I have just posted a question on Commons talk:Photographs of identifiable people, regarding the list where Consent of the subject (who is a non-public figure) is required even for photographs taken in public places in the following countries. I think you may be able to provide relevant and valuable input, and kindly requests that you comment there. --Henrik (heb: Talk·Contributions·E-mail) 06:59, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
--Isderion (talk) 13:26, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
of course also little people deserve love and appreciation. But I think in this case you miss the point because in order to miss somebody you have to know that person. But with the time Mistress Selina Kyle spend editing on Commons she did not give the community the opportunity to get to know her. If you disagree I encourage you to bring the matter up on the appropriate talk page. --Isderion (talk) 02:56, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
Alright. I rather not not make a big deal out of it, especially after Multichill blocked Penyulap due to a dispute regarding that page. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 03:26, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Rollback Revoked + Warning
Isderion, your recent reverts of Canoe1967's talk page posts here and here are not only inappropriate, but also constitute a blatant abuse of the rollback tool. I'm aware that you and Canoe have disagreed in the past, but it is highly inappropriate to use this powerful tool (granted to trustworthy users for the sole purpose of fighting vandalism) against other established editors. Furthermore, I'm highly disappointed to see that you tried to turn a barnstar (For the record, I awarded it to Canoe for reasons completely unrelated to Commons:Deletion requests/Template:Non-free graffiti) recognizing Canoe's positive contributions to the project, into something negative because you disagree with him. This is considered harassment (a very blockable offense) and is not tolerated on Commons, which really isn't something I should have to remind you of. That said, for your sake, I suggest you drop the stick and avoid Canoe for the time being: edits like this and this DR are vengeful in nature and do nothing to help your cause. In the meantime, I will also be reminding Canoe to stay mellow and avoid you as well. As for the fate of Commons:Deletion requests/Template:Non-free graffiti, I will not be changing my decision on the matter. You may try COM:UD if you wish, though it is likely the community will arrive at the same conclusion. Regards, FASTILY 10:47, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
This is a deletion request for the community to discuss whether the nominated page should be kept or deleted. Please voice your opinion in the linked request above. Thank you very much!
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
Hello Isderion, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Thanks! --VFC devs (q) 16:23, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
Nachholtermin 17. Fotoworkshop
Euer

Important message for file movers
A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators.
Cher collègue de Wikipedia;
Hi. For old situation commons have this map: File:LPR in Ukraine.svg. LPR controlled new nord territories (МИД ЛНР), official map. If you wish, replace map in articles, not commons. Машъал (talk) 20:41, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Hi,
apart from the fact that there are not really "official maps" in this regard, have you read and understood Commons:Overwriting existing files? --Isderion (talk) 21:14, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Hi to both of you; I have protected the file for a day because of the ongoing editwar. As this file was unchanged from 2016 to 2022 and you added the {{Current}} tag only now on 8 March when you wished to change the file, I think it might be better to keep that file as the unchanged historical one and create a new one for continuous updating, if necessary. I would propose to remove the {{Current}} template after the protection has run out. For transparency, I was made aware of this case here (in German). Gestumblindi (talk) 01:10, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open!
2022 Picture of the Year: Saint John Church of Sohrol in Iran.
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!
Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
