Hallo, in principle i agree with your revert because of an "overabundant" categorization. Please note though that i am still trying to reorganize all the material about drainage basins and i have to review north american basins and african basins, i would ask you to wait a little longer before maling other reverts. But i surely like to find with you a better way to classify all the items. Thanks. Ciaurlec (talk) 23:54, 25 January 2025 (UTC)
@Ciaurlec: what categorization scheme are you trying to implement? What was wrong the way it was? Note that unlike Wikipedia, Commons does NOT use Non-diffusing subcategories. Unless you are implementing a completely different category tree (which you should first discuss actually), please revert all these double-level categories. Thanks. --P199✉ 14:58, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
I was curious, where (which road or nearest intersection) was this taken and in which direction are we looking?
The description on the page for Grey County doesn't make much sense. Criticalthinker (talk) 01:00, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
Ah, nevermind. I see I was misunderstanding "Meaford" here to mean the expansive municipality, and not the actual town, which is on the whole other side (out of view) of the peninsula. This looks to be taken from Grey Road were it intersects with Kemble Rock Road, and we're looking directly east from the hill. Criticalthinker (talk) 01:19, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
@Criticalthinker: You are correct. Meaford in the description means the municipality, not the population centre. I have added the coordinates to the file description. Regards, --P199✉ 14:08, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
Category:Islands in the Saint Lawrence River
Trying to understand why you are removing this category and I believe it's because those islands are grouped in Category: Hochelaga Archipelago? If so, please note that the fr:Archipel d'Hochelaga groups islands in four rivers, including the St. Lawrence. Shawn à Montréal (talk) 17:00, 3 March 2025 (UTC)
Oh, I see. Yes, you're quite right. I have removed that as a master category. I'm going to see if we have a category template here at the Commons for connected categories? But we have articles on far too many islands in the archipelago that aren't in the St. Lawrence to leave that as a sub-category. thanks, Shawn à Montréal (talk) 17:27, 3 March 2025 (UTC)
Here's what I have added. Please let me know if that doesn't make sense to you. Shawn à Montréal (talk) 17:34, 3 March 2025 (UTC)
Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2024 voting is open!
2023 Picture of the Year: Incense plays an important role in Vietnamese life. It is considered as a sacred bridge to connect the visible life of human beings and the world of heaven, earth, and gods. Photo taken in Quang Phu Cau village, on the outskirts of Hanoi, Vietnam. In this picture, incense sticks are being set out to dry, after being dipped in the incense solution.
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2024 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Hi, you deleted the files in Commons:Deletion requests/Files of User:Alex Neman and I was wondering if the photos weren't usable/useful to depict different hairstyles? I unfortunately only got to see one or two of the images before they got deleted, so I can't tell for sure, but the one I saw seemed decent enough to illustrate either the hair length or the haircut/hairstyle, which might be educationally useful. However it also looks like the uploader made a lot of very similar photos, which of course would mean that a number of them is redundant and should remain deleted. Nakonana (talk) 14:39, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
@Nakonana: Almost 2 years ago that it closed, so I don't remember specific images. Regardless, there are millions of people images already on Commons. I doubt that we'll need these... --P199✉ 21:42, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
Municipalités québécoises
Merci pour toutes tes photos des municipalités québécoises. Je mets leurs items à jour sur Wikidata et je vois qu'un grand pourcentage ont tes photos comme image. Je voulais simplement te laisser un petit remerciement. Amqui (talk) 15:33, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
@Amqui: avec plaisir! Merci pour votre reconnaissance. --P199✉ 15:43, 19 March 2026 (UTC)

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!
Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
