Re:Deletion tags
Thank you for sharing those links regarding the PD-textlogo template, and for the Threshold of originality page. I had been following the usage on the English Wikipedia for cycling race logos, such as this one for the Tour of Britain, whereby it was a non-free logo and should not been exported to Commons – and as such, I have learned something new regarding PD-textlogo.
Regarding the logos for cycling races within this Commons category, I believe the majority had been added with Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International licensing – but I wasn't sure that should have been on Commons, which was my rationale for adding the SD templates. If any of those were incorrect, I can only apologise. Craig(talk) 18:54, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. The icon to the right on the Tour of Britain logo would make it eligible for copyright, as it includes some creative design.
- There is nothing in principal wrong with placing CC licences on PD images, but the PD should be used if relevant. Stifle (talk) 14:47, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Caspian-Iranians.jpg
Hi Stifle, That was not a content dispute, I mentioned that the map "clearly shows nothing useful" with Commons:Scope as the reason for nomination. That file is unused and unlikely to be used due to lack of educational purpose. Regards, HeminKurdistan (talk) 15:11, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your message. That has not been argued in the DR so I have no way to rely on it. Stifle (talk) 15:12, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
- This was my reason: "According to the uploader, "Caspian people... include the Gilaks, Talysh, Tat and Tapuri" but this is an invented definition. w:Caspians were people of antiquity and this map of modern provinces of Iran clearly shows nothing useful. Commons:Scope". HeminKurdistan (talk) 15:15, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
Undeletion
Hi, I noticed this image was deleted, but I think you should undelete it: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:EdaEce1990.png
It was taken from an official distributor channel (FOX) as you can see here:
I see the nomination says "The director of this TV serie until March 2020 was Neslihan Yeşilyurt. Since this director didn't publish it on Youtube with CC, we don't use screenshot here with CC" but we can safely assume the official distributor of the show has the necessary permissions from production crew/director before "distributing" it. I mean, when do you see a show or film release from director's own channels? The director works on the production and the production company/distributor/TV channel handles the release and the distributing part. So for this reason, "because it's not from director's youtube channel" is not really a good argument to delete. Tehonk (talk) 18:53, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
Images for deletion
Hello, I notice that You have posted deletion templates on some images that I have uploaded here on Commons, and these files were captured as screenshots from YouTube, the videos where I took that screenshots are free licensed from their resepctive Youtube accounts, they were posted under Creative Commons licenses, there is no real reason to delete this, please stop making this excusing that they not have permission, the videos have CC licenses and you can check it on the source on the video description on YouTube RevengerTime (talk) 20:55, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
Deletion request
Hello, I saw you closed the deletion discussion here and I have to say that I don't really understand, why the presence of copyrighted text material is not enough of - at least - a valid reason for deletion. Maybe, my choice of words or phrasing wasn't clear enough in my proposal. 😕🤷♂️ 🏺ⲈⲨⲐⲨⲘⲈⲚⲎⲊ🏛️ ⲱⲑⲏⲥⲁⲧⲉ 19:25, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
Please close the nomination
Hello, could you please wrap things up here, since the insults and threats are unlikely to stop. Incall talk 08:50, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
File:Chef Pam Profile Picture.jpg
Hi. I noticed that someone declined the CSD for File:Chef Pam Profile Picture.jpg, but then moments later, you deleted it. I didn't catch if it was you who made the original decline (perhaps you changed your mind?), or if it was probably some sort of edit conflict. In any case, the uploader, User:Soontorb, appears to be affiliated with The X Project, which seems to be the original creator of the photo. This seems to be a case where VRTS confirmation of permission should be requested, rather than the image deleted. --Paul_012 (talk) 10:05, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
- I did decline it originally because I thought it might have been copied the other way, before changing my mind. The image stated it was cross-wiki upload from enwiki in 2014, but linked to a non-existent user and I could not trace it there. Other factors suggesting a copyvio include that the uploader added several other images of the same person around the same time which have also been deleted as copyvios. The user has been inactive since 2019 so I do not think they will answer any requests for VRT permission. As such I don't intend to undelete the image, but if a VRT permission does come in, it can be undeleted. Stifle (talk) 10:32, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
- Fair point about the user being inactive. FYI, though, "cross-wiki upload from en.wikipedia" means that the file was directly uploaded to Commons via the Wikipedia interface. It's a different thing from "Transferred from en.wikipedia". The uploader attempted to change the creator credit to that of their company, but improperly did so, leaving a link to a non-existing user. --Paul_012 (talk) 19:49, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
You may be an eligible candidate for the U4C election
Greetings,
The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) seeks candidates for the 2026 election. The U4C is the global committee responsible for overseeing enforcement of the Universal Code of Conduct. Elections are held annually, if elected a committee member serves for two years.
This year the U4C requires candidates to hold administrator rights on at least one wiki, which is why you are being contacted as you appear to hold this right. There are other requirements, such as candidates must be at least 18 years old and may not be employed by the Wikimedia Foundation or other related chapters and affiliates. You can find more information in the call for candidates on Meta-wiki. Additionally, the committee's working language is English; some ability to communicate in English is required.
The election opens on 18 May, if you are eligible and interested you have until 10 May to submit your candidacy. There will week between for candidates to answer questions from the community. Voting takes place privately in SecurePoll, successful candidates must receive at least 60% support. More information is available on the 2026 Elections page, including timelines and other candidacy information. If you read over the material and consider yourself qualified, please consider submitting your name to run for the committee. If you think someone else in your community might be interested and qualified, please encourage them to run.
