Hi, I processed the OTRS permissions for File:Needle Galaxy 4565.jpeg. However, it was pointed out to me that you uploaded a new version minutes before I processed the request, which means the email with the permission was send prior tot he file upload.
I think everything is fine, but can you shed some light (so to speak) on the situation?--Sphilbrick (talk) 14:45, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
Then shall I request the author to sent one mote email?? Planet Herald (talk) 16:23, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
That would be best, and the ideal situation is that the email would specifically list the file name. The first email referred to it generically, and I used AGF that it was the same image.
If the subject line includes the OTRS ticket # 2013120110008158 it is help direct it to me.--Sphilbrick (talk) 16:45, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Bird-eagle-flying-sky-wings-wallpaper.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.
Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.
Yours sincerely, JuTa 20:35, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

File:La Couronne 16 Château Oisellerie tour&tourelle 2013.jpg
Hi! You asked for a change concerning the title of "File:La Couronne 16 Château Oisellerie tour&tourelle 2013.jpg". I'm sorry, but this title is not "meaningless", as it is possible to notice by reading the description (in French and in English) underneath the picture . The only queer things are the number (16, which means "Charente" for French users), and the "&" linking to words without any space. I've been using numbers and "&" this way for almost two years on Commons. So do I have to suppress your request or would you be so kind as to suppress it yourself? Thanks in advance. -- Sorry for my English. -- Cheers. --JLPC (talk) 14:05, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Cool! I think you could do a set with the pictures of the same nebula created by ESO, if any. Cheers! ArionEstar (talk) from Google Translate. 12:46, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
FP Nominations
Hi The Herald,
Please note that only two active nominations per user are allowed on FPC, you currently have four nominations. I have therefore tagged the last two nominations as FPDs, meaning that they will be removed from the list soon. Of course you are free to withdraw one or both of the earlier nominations and then remove the FPD tags as long as you comply with the guidelines.
Best regards, --DXR (talk) 19:13, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results:
We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).
In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)
We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:
We also sincerely thank to all 4070 voters for participating and we hope you will return for next year's contest in early 2015. We invite you to continue to participate in the Commons community by sharing your work.
Thanks, the Picture of the Year committee

Hi there. I deleted the image because the release statement said
"Material featured on this Portal may be reproduced free of charge after taking proper permission by sending a mail to us. However, the material has to be reproduced accurately and not to be used in a derogatory manner or in a misleading context. Wherever the material is being published or issued to others, the source must be prominently acknowledged. However, the permission to reproduce this material shall not extend to any material which is identified as being copyright of a third party. Authorisation to reproduce such material must be obtained from the departments/copyright holders concerned." (my bolding)
That is, essentially, a no-derivatives license, which means that it's not considered freely licensed. Since Commons can only hold freely licensed works, we can't have that image here. Apologies, Sven ManguardWha? 18:18, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)IMO the above image could have gone to a deletion request rather than a no permission statement. However, the statement that no third party can lay claim to a derivative work is definitely a no-go in terms of copyright. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 18:50, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

Comment must attach the scope to a category. It would be good to have a more detailed caption for a picture VI. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 17:39, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Comment Good for the caption. But the scope is not correct. A piece can not represent the whole. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 06:28, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
Support This one is much better than File:Veil Nebula (Heic0712g).jpg which is lower resolution and is data from photographic plates, not silicon detectors. I don't agree that it is a requirement that an image depict the entire subject to be the most valued image in that scope. This image depicts a representative and large portion of the nebula and is the most valued in that scope, in my opinion. Walter Siegmund(talk) 01:52, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
Oppose I agree on the quality of the picture. But this image is only part of the nebula. Simply add (Part) in scope so that it is correct. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 06:14, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
Comment I would support this one with the scope changed to Western Veil (NGC 6960). Yann (talk) 08:23, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
Support OK now. Yann (talk) 17:10, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
Support with new scope, also. As Jebulon points out in "Is VIC dying", too much concern with the scope can be unhelpful. --Walter Siegmund(talk) 03:23, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi Herald, you are currently using File:Comet-Hale-Bopp-29-03-1997 hires adj.jpg and it has the same problem as I have already described at your wikidata talk page. Please fix this as outlined there. By the way, these requirements are the same over all projects so if there are more projects where your user page uses images in this fashion please fix those as well. Thanks and regards, -- ChrisiPK(Talk|Contribs) 11:54, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
@ChrisiPK: Hello and thank you. But I can access the file description page by right clicking the files on my user page. Fear why you can't do that? The Herald 14:13, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
No right clicks work for me. It must be like how you are using File:The Earth seen from Apollo 17.jpg. Or you can provide attribution at the bottom of your user page. Jee 16:37, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
Right click doesn't work for me either. Regards, -- ChrisiPK(Talk|Contribs) 21:20, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
Well in that case, attribution is the best. Can you show up a format for it or it will be better if you can go ahead with it on my user page. Thanx a lot..The Herald 06:02, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi Herald, as per your request I made a change to your user page so that it now links to the file description pages. I chose to also include the link to the spiral image. While this is already clickable a large part of it is shadowed by the link to the Commons main page. Feel free to change the formatting or placement of the links, the current version is just a suggestion. Best regards, -- ChrisiPK(Talk|Contribs) 11:34, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello TH, regarding File:Lovejoy C 2014 Q2.jpg, I cannot locate any OTRS record for this file. Do you know the date of submission, any particular keywords I might look for? Can you confirm that an OTRS request has actually been submitted? Thanks for your help with this. — Huntster (t@c) 18:48, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
@Huntster: Well, I have emailed him yesterday. He might be replying in a day or two. I added the template so as not to tag it for deletion. That's all. --The Herald 05:19, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Herald. You may want to email the photographer again, as nothing has been received through OTRS that I can find. Make sure that he's sending the email to "permissions-commonswikimedia.org" and has linked the image file name somewhere in the email. This is a spectacular photograph and I would not like to see it deleted. — Huntster (t@c) 17:18, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Huntster, Sorry to say that Rogelio is not ready for it now. May be some legal issues or the like. So have it CSD and may be later, he may do it and I'll upload it then. Plus, his other images for which I had mailed him, are featured in Wikipedia (en). Thanks. --The Herald 06:49, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
Okay, if there are any other images besides the Comet Lovejoy image that need to be removed, list them here and I'll take care of the deletion. Let us hope it eventually works out. — Huntster (t@c) 14:06, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
No, only Lovejoy now. The others (three) are given CC-BY-SA-3.0 via OTRS by him. --The Herald 14:40, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

If you hadn't received a reply, why did you claim that the copyright holder had released this under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license? You need to obtain licensing permissionbefore uploading. Unfortunately, this was non-free AFP photo, and the AFP does not release their content under a free license. Rajpath
Hello, I noticed you have hosted to Wikipedia an image of the Rajpath designed by Edwin Lutyens. I am working with the Lutyens Trust for their comprehensive Gazetteer website of architect Sir Edwin Lutyens projects, and I would like to ask on the behalf of the Lutyens Trust to ask for permission to use the photograph of this Lutyens project for the Gazetteer website. If permissible, the photograph and you as photographer would be credited and this chain would serve as proof of agreement of image usage and permissions. And if so, what credit line would you like associated with your image? Thank you. VCannella3 (talk) 20:20, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:

You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
