Hi Yug. I noticed that a deletion request you made was not done correctly.

This is not an unusual mistake, but I'm leaving you this message to help you get this right in the future.

There are several steps to making a deletion request (DR) correctly; among other things you must transclude the deletion into the correct daily DR list, and to notify the page creator and optionally other human (non-bot) editors of the page. By far the easiest way to do all of this correctly is to use the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests, which takes care of all that using vetted Javascript. If you prefer to add the {{Delete}} template or {{Category for discussion}} template manually, you are required to follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed). Again, though, there is no need to follow complex instructions if you use the automatic tools.

Also worth knowing: on Commons, {{Delete}} is not a "speedy delete" request like it is on many other projects; instead, it starts a discussion of whether the file should be deleted. If you think a particular media file really obviously does not belong on Commons, see the instructions at Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion. Common cases that are better handled with a speedy delete than a DR include:

Common bad reasons people have for making DRs in the first place include:

  • after renaming a category, trying to delete the resulting redirect in violation of policy COM:CATRED
  • making a DR for a file where there is already a current DR
  • trying to delete one's own work within 7 days (use {{G7}} instead)
  • placing {{Delete}} on the deletion subpage itself, or on a talk page.

Also, please don't use {{Ffd}} (that's an English Wikipedia thing).

Lists

Hi. How do the lists are supposed to work with Lingua Libre now? Should they have a prefix of List: or List/ given that both versions are present? Also, why does the recorder still use lists from lingualibre.org that can't be edited? It's been six months since my bot is updating the lists in Commons, and I just discovered that Lingua Libre is using a frozen version from the past instead. Olaf (talk) 10:39, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

Hello @Olaf,
This is a good question to ask to be honest.
  • The app at https://lingualibre.org/wiki/Special:RecordWizard has never stopped, about half of our users still used it recently. But human users cannot edit the lists there anymore, bots can : the edit field is just hidden via CSS `display:none`. This instance relies on lists on lingualibre.org/wiki/ .
  • The new app (Beta test) at https://ling-libre.toolforge.org was online and used by half of the users. It relies on the lists now on Commons, with a regex for List: or List/, including your new lists from Commons. Helas, this toolforge.org instance has an issue since mid-April and is down. 😮‍💨
  • In January-February WMFR sysop successfully deployed it to WMFR-en:OVH servers. We then found out upload to Commons failed due to WMF IPs range block on all OVH serves. 🫠
  • Since April we are redeploying that new app on wmcloud.org and are now waiting for that instance to be online. Then only we will take down the old one(s).
All this require long coding session, as expected. I have no sysop training and WMFR decided to take it in their hands. But their sysop, handling 50 projects amready, is so far only available about one day per month. This is not enough and slows us down by months, yes. As a freelancer paid by WMFR i raised our needs and the issue of such low sysop availability, i push all other fronts and took over about 6 times more tasks & workload on this project that my contracts requires. As for this sysop task, I dont have the skills needed to unblock this bottleneck, it is too sensitive to take on in « hacker mode », and its contractually WMFR's responsibility to finish this brick. It s just not in my hands. We are close to finish abd it will rely on your Commons lists. I hope this helps you to gain visibility on this issue. Yug (talk) 11:42, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
On Commons, i can batch rename your current Wiktionaries lists into Commons:Lingua Libre/List/{iso}/{Title}. But your bot should then be modified to change its edits targets from `List:` into `List/`. Would you be ok to do this today ? Yug (talk) 11:56, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
Last, after double checking on gitlab #200, there is a possibility that for a same list present on both the wikis, the Linguabre.org version was saved over the Wikimedia Commons lists. 🤔 Yug (talk) 11:59, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

I had a similar bot login error yesterday when trying to update a list this way, via bot. Since it's a bot from 2024 I though my logins values were wrong.
In the same line is phab:T423969: 3 days ago my QueryLingualibre-monthly-fr.ipynb, which was working fine a year back, failed to connect to Lingua Libre sparql endpoint.
All this legacy mediawiki, wikibase and stack is hosted by OVH servers. I heard there is a lot of firewall upgrades ongoing due ton AI agents flying all around, maybe the server has new firewalls ? I don't have immediate solution then : (1) you may open a phabricator task and tag `lingua-libre`, (2) just may let you know the new stack will be https://lingualibre.wmcloud.org (do not share yet: Oauth and DNS not yet final) for app and Wikimedia Commons for our lists. We are deploying on a 3rd server provider and hope this one will be the final one ! Yug (talk) 16:10, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
