Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2025 voting is open!

Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2025 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the twentieth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just five images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

OptimusPrimeBot exception
Hi Don-vip, the OptimusPrimeBot sometimes duplicate-tags files, which despite being identical need to remain (both versions). Is there a command that can be added to these files so that the bot ignores them? --Túrelio (talk) 18:19, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- I ignore coats of arms and election maps. What else needs to be ignored? vip (talk) 18:21, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- See, for example, User talk:Túrelio#File:Bandera de Pelileo.png. Since long, I am deleting many duplicate-tagged files. In recent times more often I receive complaints such as the linked one. What I am asking for is not a general rule for the bot, but a sort of "leave-me-alone"-tag/flag which I could add to individual files. --Túrelio (talk) 18:28, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- I can ignore a specific category. Do we have such an "acceptable duplicate" maintenance category already? vip (talk) 18:34, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- No, AFAIK. This problem pops up every now and then. For me it would be easiest to have a simple do-not-tag-me command, which I could add to individual files after I have recognized the "problem" either by myself or by being notified by others, as in the case at hand. Both will usually happen after such a file has already been tagged by the OPB. --Túrelio (talk) 18:41, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- A new hidden category is the easiest way to implement this in my bot, I can think of a few names, which one would you prefer?
- vip (talk) 18:58, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- Probably the last one would be most suitable. --Túrelio (talk) 19:01, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- Ok, I'm on it! vip (talk) 19:03, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Túrelio: it's done, you can give it a try :) vip (talk) 19:16, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, don-vip, I've tagged the first pair of files now. --Túrelio (talk) 19:17, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
