Featured picture candidates Featured picture candidates are images that the community will vote on, to determine whether or not they will be highlighted as some of the finest on Commons. This page lists the candidates to become featured pictures. The picture of the day images are selected from featured pictures. Old candidates for featured pictures are listed in the log pages and in the candidate archives. There are also chronological lists of featured pictures: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and current month. Formal thingsNominatingGuidelines for nominatorsPlease read the complete guidelines before nominating. This is a summary of what to look for when submitting and reviewing FP candidates:
Artworks, illustrations, and historical documentsThere are many different types of non-photographic media, including engravings, watercolors, paintings, etchings, and various others. Hence, it is difficult to set hard-and-fast guidelines. However, generally speaking, works can be divided into three types: Those that can be scanned, those that must be photographed, and those specifically created to illustrate a subject. Works that must be photographed include most paintings, sculptures, works too delicate or too unique to allow them to be put on a scanner, and so on. For these, the requirements for photography, below, may be mostly followed; however, it should be noted that photographs which cut off part of the original painting are generally not considered featurable. Works that may be scanned include most works created by processes that allow for mass distribution − for instance, illustrations published with novels. For these, it is generally accepted that a certain amount of extra manipulation is permissible to remove flaws inherent to one copy of the work, since the particular copy – of which hundreds, or even thousands of copies also exist – is not so important as the work itself. Works created to serve a purpose include diagrams, scientific illustrations, and demonstrations of contemporary artistic styles. For these, the main requirement is that they serve their purpose well. Provided the reproduction is of high quality, an artwork generally only needs one of the following four things to be featurable:
Digital restorations must also be well documented. An unedited version of the image should be uploaded locally, when possible, and cross-linked from the file description page. Edit notes should be specified in detail, such as "Rotated and cropped. Dirt, scratches, and stains removed. Histogram adjusted and colors balanced." PhotographsOn the technical side, we have focus, exposure, composition, movement control and depth of field.
On the graphic elements we have shape, volume, color, texture, perspective, balance, proportion, noise, etc.
You will maximise the chances of your nominations succeeding if you read the complete guidelines before nominating. Video and audioPlease nominate videos, sounds, music, PDFs, etc. at Commons:Featured media candidates. Set nominationsIf a group of images are thematically connected in a direct and obvious way, they can be nominated together as a set. A set should fall under one of the following types:
Adding a new nominationIf you believe that you have found or created an image that could be considered valuable, with appropriate name, quality, image description, categories and licensing, then do the following. Step 1: copy the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box, for example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Your image filename.jpg. Then click on the "create new nomination" button. All single files: For renominations, simply add /2 after the filename. For example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Foo.jpg/2
All set nomination pages should begin "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/", e.g. "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/My Nomination".
Step 3: manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list: Click here, and add the following line to the TOP of the nominations list:
Nominations are time-sensitive and for one-time use only. An automatic clock starts as soon as they are created. Do not create them in advance, save them for later or re-activate them. Galleries and FP categories: Please add a gallery page and section heading from the list at Commons FP galleries. Write the code as Page name#Section heading. For example: Optional: if you are not the creator of the image, please notify them using
An 'Alternative' is created by adding a sub-section to the nomination page: ====Alternative==== VotingEditors whose accounts have at least 10 days and 100 constructive, stable edits on Commons (excluding user and talk pages) can vote. Everybody can vote for their own nominations. Anonymous (IP) votes are not allowed. You may use the following templates:
You may indicate that the image has no chance of success with the template reason - ~~~~, where reason explains why the image is clearly unacceptable as a FP. The template can only be used when there are no support votes other than the one from the nominator. A well-written review helps participants (photographers, nominators and reviewers) improve their skills by providing insight into the strengths and weaknesses of a picture. Explain your reasoning, especially when opposing a candidate (which has been carefully selected by the author/nominator). English is the most widely understood language on Commons, but any language may be used in your review. A helpful review will often reference one or more of the criteria listed above. Unhelpful reasons for opposing include:
Remember also to put your signature (~~~~). Featured picture delisting candidatesOver time, featured picture standards change. It may be decided that for some pictures which were formerly "good enough", this is no longer the case. This is for listing an image which you believe no longer deserves to be a featured picture. For these, vote:
This can also be used for cases in which a previous version of an image was promoted to FP, but a newer version of the image has been made and is believed to be superior to the old version, e.g. a newly edited version of a photo or a new scan of a historical image. In particular, it is not intended for replacing older photos of a particular subject with newer photos of the same subject, or in any other case where the current FP and the proposed replacement are essentially different images. For these nominations, vote:
If you believe that some picture no longer meets the criteria for FP, you can nominate it for delisting, copying the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box: In the new delisting nomination page just created you should include:
After that, you have to manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list. As a courtesy, leave an informative note on the talk page(s) of the original creator, uploader(s), and nominator with a link to the delisting candidate. can be used for this purpose. Featured picture candidate policyGeneral rules
Featuring and delisting rulesA candidate will become a featured picture in compliance with following conditions:
The delisting rules are the same as those for FPs, with voting taking place over the same time period. The rule of the 5th day is applied to delisting candidates that have received no votes to delist, other than that of the proposer, by day 5. The FPCBot handles the vote counting and closing in most cases, current exceptions are candidates containing multiple versions (“alternatives”) of the image as well as delist-and-replace nominations. Any experienced user may close the requests not handled by the bot. For instructions on how to close nominations, see Commons:Featured picture candidates/What to do after voting is finished. Also note that there is a manual review stage between when the bot has counted the votes and before the nomination is finally closed by the bot; this manual review can be done by any user familiar with the voting rules. Hint: Until summer 2025, the bot was also not able to process FPXed, FPDed and withdrawn nominations as well as delist nominations; this has been fixed, users do not need to close such nominations anymore. Above all, be politePlease don't forget that the image you are judging is somebody's work. Avoid using phrases like "it looks terrible" and "I hate it". If you must oppose, please do so with consideration. Also remember that your command of English might not be the same as someone else's. Choose your words with care. Happy judging… and remember… all rules can be broken. See also

Comment A bit more work needed on the masking, especially bottom left. Charlesjsharp (talk) 22:05, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- There was natural window light from the left (unusual for a museum) thus the bright slightly blueish edge is a result from the light situation in the museum, not an editing error. I have a tendency to keep that „edge light“ - what do you think? Tuxyso (talk) 22:14, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- Might it work better if you blur the join line between mask and subject? Charlesjsharp (talk) 08:38, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

Support A beautiful, cinematic composition, and the excellent subject separation (thanks to ƒ/6.3 at 195 mm) is essential for that. Therefore a small DoF was to be expected and is required here. Yes, it could still be sharper (probably 1/125 s was a little bit too long for the moving people), but I can’t find fault with a touch of softness when we get such an excellent composition. – Aristeas (talk) 07:44, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

- Thanks dear Charles for your comment, I appreciate the criticism. In the old FP version, which is not the current one, the whole animal is not in focus, and there is also a lack of depth of field. I believe the image works better now, showing the animal in its natural environment. Also, the older version had some Photoshop editing that I now consider excessive Wilfredor (talk) 16:44, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

- One of the things I liked most was the natural light. The camera has enough dynamic range to change the night or afternoon into a beautiful day, but that would alter the reality of the moment. Thanks for your review Wilfredor (talk) 10:49, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- I agree that it is underexposed (on my calibrated monitor). Charlesjsharp (talk) 16:21, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- The file uses the full tonal range with almost no clipping, so the darker look is a deliberate low-key rendering of dappled shade, not under-exposure and the still, dark water is what lets the reflection read. The bird is fully exposed and detailed. Happy to upload a slightly lifted version so you can compare. Thanks both Wilfredor (talk) 16:35, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

Oppose Categorize properly, please. What kind of "Reflexes" are depicted? May it be you mean "Reflections"? Really so difficult to look before setting a nomination? --A.Savin 18:57, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, I fixed it. The correction was fair, but comments phrased like “Really so difficult to look before setting a nomination?” are exactly the kind of thing that makes me feel less motivated to participate at FPC Wilfredor (talk) 21:47, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- Why? (Refers to "comments phrased..." etc) --A.Savin 09:57, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Daniel Case: Are reflection categories now sufficiently dealt with? Rhetorical question of course... --A.Savin 09:57, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- Because it goes beyond a categorization issue and comes across as a personal reproach. Since this is coming from an administrator, I would have expected a bit more consideration in the wording. I was absent from FPC for about a year precisely because this kind of interaction was causing me a lot of stress. I recently returned with the intention of participating constructively, so I would appreciate comments being phrased in a way that focuses on the issue, not on the person. I have no problem with corrections; in fact, I corrected the issue after your comment. The correction was fair, and as I already said, I fixed it, “Please review the reflection categories before nominating” would have been enough. Also, oppose votes are generally used for issues that make the image unsuitable or that cannot be easily fixed, such as problems with the image. Even in those cases, many users write something like “I will change my vote if this is fixed.” A category issue can be fixed quickly, and I often correct such issues myself in other FPC nominations rather than opposing because of them. If there is still something specific missing, please let me know. Wilfredor (talk) 14:21, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

- Now why the image occupies less space than the original?, I would kindly suggest that any edits to other users’ photographs be made in a separate new file, with a detailed description of the changes and clear attribution to the original author. That said, in my view, editing a photograph that is already QI and used in a Wiki entry—especially one in which I am also involved on Wiki Love Earth not be the most appropriate approach. I believe it would be better to preserve the original file and upload any modified version separately. Wilfredor (talk) 14:15, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

Support The previously nominated pano was criticised for being ultrwide and for lacking sharpness, so nominating this closer view with better sharpness. The hills are located some 25 kilometres away (as the crow flies), and are often not visible from the city due to pollution, fog or clouds. This was an exceptionally clear day. -- UnpetitproleX (Talk) 09:43, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Really sorry. It's better, but I'm still not seeing anything in the way of composition. All the leading lines are completely horizontal so there is nothing to provide tension in the composition. I think the clouds are pretty nice, and the light is quite pleasant, but the picture is a little noisy IMO. Cmao20 (talk) 18:21, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- I'm very confused about what you mean by composition, it is a pretty standard composition based on the rule of thirds. The dramatic clouds and the shadow-play on the hills are where the action ('the tension') lies. UnpetitproleX (Talk) 04:52, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

Comment The problem I see here is that it's a crop (removing part of the artwork) of a 500-year-old piece. Why not use a cut that only removes the frame? I think that's what we're all asking for. --Wilfredor (talk) 22:01, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

I think the choice not to perspective correct and to go for a low shooting position is a sensible one in this case, a kind of 'mouse-eye view' is good for emphasising the size and space of a large religious building. Info A high-resolution, 100-megapixel fragment of the Mandelbrot set, rendered using Perturbation Theory. The high-precision reference trajectory is computed exactly once, enabling blazing-fast computation for billions of pixels using hardware-native double registers (with a 1e-308 hardware limit). Features True SSAA 8x8 anti-aliasing (64 independent samples per pixel) for perfect detail clarity. Originally rendered at 80,000 x 80,000 pixels and downscaled to 10,000 x 10,000. C++ source code is included. Ultimately, it is an infinite mathematical structure that has always existed. Created, uploaded and nominated by Aokoroko -- Aokoroko (talk) 07:32, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Neutral Looks very good in thumbnail and is a beautiful motif. But imho the level of detail and the leck of consistent sharpness are not sufficient for a pro vote. --Tuxyso (talk) 19:39, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Sorry, the subject is great but I don't think this level of detail and sharpness is enough considering the relatively low resolution. I am also not usually convinced by the cut-out-and-stick-on-a-white-background approach. Cmao20 (talk) 20:31, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks! I added it because I really like this photo — but well, in my opinion, the quality is borderline. Unfortunately, the camera equipment was good for the time, but well, that was a while ago. As for the background — I don't really like cutouts either, but here, there was a rather odd-looking square in the background; I think it's better now. Anyway, take a look at the file history and you'll see what I mean. Krigore (talk) 20:59, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
Oppose I concur with Cmao20. The editing in some bordering areas could also be better. Furthermore the item is distorted and would have benefited from a PC or a different POV Poco a poco (talk) 11:44, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Info The smallest house in Wernigerode was built in 1792; it is only 2.95 meters wide and has an eaves height of 4.20 meters, while the entrance door is just 1.7 meters high (please compare it with the doors of the houses to its right and left). Neutral I'm not wowed here, sorry. Will not oppose but lighting is ordinary and what makes the subject special is not really visible because we cannot really compare this house to the neighbouring ones. Poco a poco (talk) 11:33, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment:Yes; would it work if you include the normal size doors at least? Charlesjsharp (talk) 20:53, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
Info The doors of the neighboring houses are only partially visible; since the image is not cropped at the sides, no additional angle showing neighboring doors can be displayed here. However, at least one door and one window of one of the neighboring houses are fully visible in this image. --Llez (talk) 05:21, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

Support Wonderful image, but could use an improved file name. Can you get a file mover to rename it for you with something more descriptive and specific. The image is oustanding, but the description doesn't capture the rodent (vole I presume) in the air or the drama of what unfolded, or where, etc. I won't let that hold up the support, however, because it is brilliant. --Needsmoreritalin (talk) 19:49, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Needsmoreritalin: Hi, I can rename it to "Red fox caught the mouse". Other opinions? Юрий Д.К. 20:06, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- Its a great shot. I don't know the location or the species of rodent, but I see you are in Moscow - so if the shot was close to home this might help - A Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) catches a bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus) (location)(Country) might work.
- I am assuming its a bank vole, buit it could be Microtus arvalis or Microtus agrestis. And while I am not 100% sure - I do believe it is a vole rather than a mouse.
- And once again - a great photo! Needsmoreritalin (talk) 21:57, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- Sadly, I'm not author of the photo. More precise location added, but I can't give coords. Юрий Д.К. 22:06, 13 June 2026 (UTC)

- I don't understand this renaming. Tolyatti is a fairly large industrial city, but the picture clearly shows a non-urban scene. -- Екатерина Борисова (talk) 23:57, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

Oppose I would be proud to take this photo, but a few things prevent me from supporting: (a) the standard for common kingfisher photos at FPC is pretty high (we have eleven: Category:Featured pictures of Alcedo atthis); (b) the noise reduction is intense enough to appear kind of like a painting at 100% (although this is really just speaking again to the standards for this species); (c) this looks more like a failed fishing effort than bathing (this one is fixable, of course). — Rhododendrites talk | 20:48, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

Support low quality compared to photos of the category but that is what a small sensor can give, it is camouflaged with the tree which is natural but also prevents it from being distinguished well (nothing negative about the latter) --Wilfredor (talk) 03:13, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

Support Excellent documentation of the camouflage which is very effective. On the little plateau of the Abbaye de Saint-Roman I once noticed the sound of a single cicada and thought I could easily locate it. It even did me the favour to stay in the same place and to keep on with its solo. But it still took me a long time to spot it on a tree trunk. Comment Another animal bred in captivity. Charlesjsharp (talk) 11:27, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- While wild photos are obviously better where possible, harvest mice are very elusive and hard to capture in the wild; I think captive photo is better than no photo. LetmeEditit (talk) 11:55, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- As Charles noted, keeping an animal confined for the sake of creating a beautiful composition raises ethical concerns? Wilfredor (talk) 00:50, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- Ultimately, it's a moral question with no true "correct" answer. Personally, I'm fine with it, as long as the animal is happy and well-cared for. From what I can see, the British Wildlife Centre appears to be a decent facility, with animal welfare in mind. Of course, one cannot ask a mouse if it is happy, but the same goes for wild mice. LetmeEditit (talk) 11:29, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for answer, from my point of view, not very different from photos of dogs and cats Wilfredor (talk) 12:11, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- I agree with this comment. Dogs were once wild...wait, correction, they're ancestors were. Mice, like dogs, have lived alongside people for thousands of years, gradually becoming more accustomed to human presence as time wore on. In recent decades, mice have become increasingly popular pets renowned for their cuteness and intelligence. That said, I think of mice as "pests that can be pets", because they are not quite a household name like cats or dogs but they are getting there. If this had been a truly wild animal I'd have agreed with Charles' comment. Wolverine X-eye 15:38, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

Oppose We've already promoted two photos of captive harvest mice in photogenic positions that do not contain any disclosure of the photo being staged. If we were going to promote another, IMO it should be vastly superior, which this one is not -- and oppose captive photos being presented without transparency in general. — Rhododendrites talk | 20:58, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- I had not thought about stating in my nomination that an animal is captive, but I suppose I should. The photo itself states it's from the British Wildlife Centre, but it might not be obviously captive at first glance. I will edit the descriptions to indicate this. Support For a shot taken without focus layers, the image has turned out very well, although I would have liked a bit more depth of field. This type of fly is quite chilled, and I was even able to create focus stacks of a related species over a period of several minutes. Oppose Sorry to spoil the long list of support votes. The composition is very good, but the part of the body which should necessarily be sharp (the head) it is not. We do have very good featured images of this exact species. Please see here -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 18:01, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
- I only found two FP photos of E. tenax specifically, and they aren’t better than this quality given here: File:Eristalis tenax auf Tragopogon pratensis 01.JPG, File:Eristalis tenax and flowers.jpg
- You must check the category for better photos, not just FP. Wikipedia info is another place you should check Charlesjsharp (talk) 09:02, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- I’d also like to mention that I’ve noticed you quite often criticise macro shots in a negative way. I’m not sure if you realise just how difficult such shots actually are. That’s why we have so few of them. Have you ever tried taking any yourself?
- Most macro lenses available (and affordable for amateur photographers) have a maximum magnification of 1:1. This magnification is only achieved at the minimum focusing distance. The ‘sweet spot’ for these lenses is usually in the f/9–f/13 aperture range (depends on sensor size and pixel pitch), to avoid diffraction blur. The depth of field is then only a few millimetres. Especially with smaller insects, you have to get the front lens very close to them; with my lens, for example, that’s only 4–5 cm. Most of them start to get a bit skittish unless they’re still stuck in the morning’s cold-induced torpor. If the insects are sitting on flowers, even the gentlest breeze is a problem.
- If you manage to take a focus bracket without any movement, it’s pure luck! Achim Lammerts • Syntaxys (talk) 05:46, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- That's why I've given up using my 100mm macro and use 500mm now with in-camera focus bracketing (electronic shutterː 40 frames/second) for nearly all my insect photos (except in flight). Even hand held, Topaz software compensates for some subject, plant or camera movement. Even if the stack doesn't work, you can pick the best of, say, 15 shots for a stand-alone photo. Charlesjsharp (talk) 09:02, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- I only found two FP photos of E. tenax specifically, and they aren’t better than this quality given here: File:Eristalis tenax auf Tragopogon pratensis 01.JPG, File:Eristalis tenax and flowers.jpg
Oppose In light of Alvesgaspar’s comments, I also consider it inappropriate that the same author has added his own photograph to more than 22 Wikipedia articles, despite being aware that better images of this species are available. --Wilfredor (talk) 13:15, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

Support The photo was taken at midday, which makes the shadows very pronounced, especially the prominent shadow on the left cast by the dam. However, it seems uniform and doesn't bother me too much; I'm more bothered by the photos of the bridge in the lower part. The colors seem natural, and the profile looks like it was taken in the 80s. Overall, the quality is good; there wasn't much cropping in the shot. I do miss better focus on the meadows in the background and a view further to the right. --Wilfredor (talk) 20:50, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

Info I didn't mean to be disrespectful or impose my opinion as dogmatic. As I have often explained in the many years spent here, for me the default state of a candidate is "not promoted". An image should be recognized as worth of a FP star not because it lacks obvious flaws, but due to its extraordinary qualities or value. That is why I consider more important to justify a support than an oppose vote. -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 10:40, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

- It was 6 years ago, but i remember that it was a motion blur deconvolution and not a AI sharpening. AI sharpen creates skin texture, although it depends on how it's applied. In this case, motion blur deconvolution doesn't create anything; instead, it takes the data from the same photograph and moves the motion blur in the opposite direction, leaving the image sharp. Closing nominations manually
The following description explains how to close nominations manually. Normally this is not necessary, as FPCBot takes care of counting the votes, closing and archiving the nominations. When the Bot has counted the votes, a user needs to check and approve the result; everything else is done by the Bot. Therefore, the following instructions are normally only needed for delist-and-replace nominations that the Bot cannot (yet) process, and in case the Bot malfunctions. The closing can be done by any experienced user. If you need help, just ask on the FPC talk page.
Closing a featured picture nomination
- On Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the nomination, then [edit].
- Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):

(You can leave thegalleryparameter blank if the image was not featured. If the nomination contains alternatives, you must add thealternative=xxxparameter with the name of the selected image between thegalleryand thesigparameter. See FPC-results-reviewed for examples and more explanations.) - Edit the title of the nomination and add
featuredornot featuredafter the link – for example:
:File:XXXXX.jpg
becomes
=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, featured === - Save your edit.
- Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):
- If it is featured:
- Add the picture to the list of the four most recently featured pictures of an appropriate gallery of Commons:Featured pictures, list as the first one and delete the last one, so that the number is four again.
- Add the picture to the appropriate featured picture gallery page and section. Click on the most appropriate link beneath where you just added it as one of the four images on Commons:Featured pictures, list to find the gallery page, and search for the correct section. (An image should only appear ONE time in the galleries. After a successful nomination, the image can be placed in several of the Featured pictures categories.)
- Add the template
to the image description page.- If it was an alternative image or part of a set nomination, use the
com-nomparameter. For example, if File:Foo.jpg was promoted in the nominationCommons:Featured picture candidates/File:Bar.jpg, useYou also need thecom-nomparameter if the image gets renamed. - If the image is already featured on another Wikipedia, just add

FP promotion
FP promotion
File:XXXXX.jpgto the talk page of the user who has uploaded the image, if that user is not the same as the nominator. - Add
FP promotion
File:XXXXX.jpgto the talk page of the creator, if the author is a different Commons user than nominator and uploader.
- Add candidate archive categories to the nomination so that people can easily find and evaluate past nominations (this applies also to unsuccessful, FPX-d, FPD-d and Withdraw-n nominations). It’s best practice to wrap all these categories in a
<noinclude>...</noinclude>section because they apply only to the nomination itself, not to the log page etc. which transclude it. You need three or four categories:- A category for the month and year, like Category:June 2026 featured picture candidates for the current month.
- A category for the type and result of the nomination, like Category:2026 successful candidates for featured picture status; replace “successful” by “unsuccessful”, “FPXed”, “FPDed” or “withdrawn”, depending on the final result of the nomination (see the supercategory for common values).
- A category for the subject of the nomination, like Category:2026 featured picture candidates of plants. Replace “plants” by one of the possible subject keywords like “animals”, “architecture”, etc.; see the base category for all common keywords. Basically the subject keywords correspond to the first part of the gallery link.
- If the nomination is a set nomination, add Category:2026 featured picture set nominations.
- As the last step (whether the image is featured or not; including FPX-d, FPD-d and Withdraw-n nominations), you have to move the transclusion (the and the text within those) of the nomination to the current log page.
- To find the current log page, visit the first page of the log for this month. If the header of that page contains a link with the text “Next part of this month”, the log for this month has been split into several parts because it contains too many entries. Click on the “Next part …” link and repeat this until you reach a page where the header does not offer a “Next part …” link; that’s the last and current log page.
- Now open Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list, click on [edit], and find the transclusion of the nomination you are closing. It will be of the form:
or:. - Copy that line to the bottom of the current log page and save that page. Then remove the same line from the candidate list and save that page.
Closing a delisting nomination
- On Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the candidate image, then [edit].
Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):
(for example see Commons:Featured picture candidates/removal/File:Ensifera ensifera (22271195865).jpg) - Edit the title of the delisting nomination and add
delistedornot delistedafter the image title; for example:=== :File:XXXXX.jpg ===
becomes=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, delisted === - Add candidate archive categories to the nomination; this works the same way as described above for featured picture nominations. The only difference is that the category for type and status must be of the form Category:2026 successful candidates for delisting from featured picture status, or Category:2026 successful candidates for delisting and replacing featured pictures if this is a delist-and-replace nomination. Substitute “unsuccessful”, “FPXed”, “FPDed” or “withdrawn” for “successful”, depending on the final result of the nomination.
- Move the transclusion of the nomination to the current log page; please see above for an explanation how to find the current log page and how to move the nomination to it.
- If the outcome was not delisted, stop here. If it is delisted:
- Remove the picture from Commons:Featured pictures, list and any subpages.
- Edit the picture's description as follows:
- In the Assessments template on the image description page, change
featured=1tofeatured=2(do not remove the Assessments template; do not change anything related to its status in other featured picture processes). If the image description page uses the old Featured picture template, replace it with. - Remove the image from all categories beginning with "Featured [pictures]" (example: Featured night photography, Featured pictures from Wiki Loves Monuments 2016, Featured pictures of Paris); but not from categories about featured pictures on specific Wikipedia editions, like Category:Featured pictures on Wikipedia, English.
- Remove the "Commons quality assessment" claim (P6731) "Wikimedia Commons featured picture" (Q63348049) from the picture's Structured data.
- In the Assessments template on the image description page, change
- Add a delisting-comment to the original entry in the chronological archive of featured pictures in bold-face, e. g. delisted 2007-07-19 (1–6) with (1–6) meaning 1 keep and 6 delist votes (change as appropriate). The picture must not be removed from the chronological archives.
- If this is a Delist and Replace, the delisting and promotion must both be done manually. To do the promotion, follow the steps in the section above. Note that the assessment tag on the file page and the promotion tag on the nominator's talk page won't pick up the /replace subpage that these nominations use.
Archiving a withdrawn nomination
If a nomination has been withdrawn by the nominator by using Withdraw or is cancelled with FPX or FPD, wait 24 hours after the nomination was last edited. If there has been no objection to the cancellation within this time, the nomination can simply be archived. Just add candidate archive categories to the nomination itself, then move the transclusion of the nomination to the current log page; please see above for an explanation how to find the current log page and how to move the nomination to it.
