Hello! I've seen your notes at User talk:XRay/Templates/Notes/Common. If you have any hints for a better English wording, please talk to me at my user page User_talk:XRay. My English isn't always the best. I try to improve my vocabulary and my grammar, so I'm thankful for a better wording. Especially I'll try to reduce misunderstandings. Thanks for uploading File:Money Musk at Youth Dance Weekend 2019.webm. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.
Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have grantedautopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. —Mdaniels5757 (talk•contribs) 02:18, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Hey Sdkb, I just wanted to notice you that our designer provided us with a summary of the findings of the usability tests about the improvements to UploadWizard, which I just uploaded to Commons. I hope this helps in answering your previous question. Of course, I'm here if you need more info. Cheers, Sannita (WMF) (talk) 11:40, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
One thought that occurs to me: The optimal upload experience varies based on the type of file being uploaded. For instance, if we knew an uploaded image was a photograph (as opposed to e.g. a drawing), we could ask more specifically "Are you the photographer?" Making that distinction would probably be tough, but it points toward a possible future. I can envision a wizard one day that'd use AI to analyze an image and say things like, "It appears you're trying to upload an image of a sculpture in the United States [location gleaned from metadata]. What year was it created? ..."

Thanks a lot for your comment, I'll be sure to send it to the team.
I also wanted to point out that we appreciate deeply the dedication to the theme that you show. You're not just constructive in your feedback, but present us with a lot of good insights about what we can do more, and that's precious. I just hope we can make it become reality in a not to far future.

File:Critical race theory book display.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)
This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: Derivative work of the poster and the various book covers
Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please categorize your AI requests in the future Trade (talk) 04:10, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the note, @Trade. I believe I used the standard "nominate for deletion" option in the menu on the side of the page to make the nomination. That form doesn't currently include any means to categorize requests. If you're seeking to have more requests categorized, I'd suggest that improving the form would probably be a much more effective method than trying to educate editors to remember an additional step. Thank you for uploading File:Enron Code of Ethics cover.jpg to the Wikimedia Commons. I have noticed that the version you uploaded is a thumbnail, while a larger version is available. Please upload the full version of the image. Thank you,
Fixed; thanks! I'm not sure the other version is actually any more detailed, as once the black margin is cropped out, it's only slightly higher resolution, but unlikely to hurt. Cheers, Sdkbtalk 14:42, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States 2025
Hello! In 2024, you contributed to Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States. Thanks to people like you, we had over 350 participants upload more than 2,700 photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the country. Hundreds of these photos now help illustrate Wikipedia articles, improving our open knowledge about United States history, culture, and heritage. If you haven't seen them yet, you can view the top-ten winners of the US competition here.
New to this year, in addition to our typical top-ten prizes, we have new prize categories for the following:
Most sites newly photographed
Top 2 Native American site photos
Top 2 UAV (drone) photos
Once again, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2024, and we hope to see you again in this year's event! If you have any questions, please leave them on the event talk page.

Museum storage
@Sdkb: I understand your thoughts on the matter, which is that it is still Museum storage. I am trying to deal with the slush pile that category Museum storage has become. I am moving museum storage photos into their subcategories, making the Storage of cultural heritage objects the parent category instead of 'Museum storage'. Please see the discussion on the issue. I am going to continue to add subcategories to the photos but will hold off on removing the Museum storage category. Myotus (talk) 15:18, 7 November 2025 (UTC)

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!
Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
