Personal categories

Hi,

You recently edited one of my personal categories. It has been reverted. You will NOT do so again. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Famartin (talk) 11:12, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Jianhui67 TC 02:55, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

Coordination

Hi!
Let’s take care not to collide, or at least not too badly;

& regarding File:Valle di Cadore-Bandiera.svg, by the way it's rather {{PD-shape}} than anything else.
Congratulations for you Autopatrol rights, and welcome to Hugemessland. --Kontributor 2K (talk) 09:45, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

Script

Hi,
I regularly notice some issues on files after you run the script on them:
Example: this file was, originally, properly categorised in :World maps (s=wm), and the script put it in :maps (s=m) while it shouldn't have -the file has to be in :World maps, whatever the value of the w= field ;
Other: File:Coat of Arms of Alde Zaharra (Iruña-Pamplona).svg had already be checked (previous version), the problems here are that the action (the meaning of which is still seeked) solely: duplicated the "image" argument (see Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls), didn't detect the raster image, which, incidentally, is visible to the naked eye, and added the value "QGIS" which is not defined (see substitute in the svg field) ("QGIS" was most likely deducted from the the Base64 code…).
In both examples, comparing the results afterwards would have made it possible to correct these errors; is running a script on files that already have an “Image generation” value specified really useful, specially when not paying attention to the result?
It’s not certain that it’s worth it, mainly to simply convert <gallery> to {{G}} etc., is it?

Fixed: diff., diff.
Surprisingly, I had to sort it out myself, --Kontributor 2K (talk) 08:01, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

Heraldry

Hi,
Regarding this addition of “descritpion en=Gold background with three bands of red”, as heraldry is a specific language, you cannot simply translate a blazon to english, without further consideration (see).

3D patent

What is it about with the 3D patent thing ({{3dpatent|ownwork}}) you added on File:.460 Steyr cartridge-full model MNr°0001.stl?
--D-Kuru (talk) 21:04, 29 July 2026 (UTC)

The file was being categorized into Files with no machine-readable patent. I don't know why but it seems like STL files without that template get placed into that category. ForeverFlying (talk) 21:07, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
@D-Kuru I found the relevant policy on Meta-Wiki here. Here's the relevant quote:

Therefore, the Foundation’s recommended approach is to have users agree to a disclaimer that they do not hold any patent rights in a potentially-patentable object upon upload of the 3D file. This would help reduce users’ concerns about patent restrictions on any files they may wish to print. Because the uploader could be forfeiting substantial rights in the 3D object, it would be advisable to have a specific warning, triggered upon uploading the 3D file, alerting users that any patent rights they have in the object will be waived.

ForeverFlying (talk) 21:25, 29 July 2026 (UTC)

Thanks for your answer. I still don't quite understand the use behind this (as IMHO the CC-licence also covers patents), but after all it doesn't really matter that much as I see time and time again that even the most simple licence is not respected on the internet. Oh well...
--D-Kuru (talk) 19:51, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
Yeah that's the best answer I could find. I know when you upload an STL through the Upload form now it makes you check a disclaimer that you're not infringing any patents by uploading the model. I know in the United States, copyright law and patent law are two different branches. I think the rationale is, theoretically you could make a model that uses design aspects that are functionally the same as a patented work. And while technically the patented work has a utilitarian function and so it doesn't automatically fall under copyright protection, the function of the design is still protected by patent law so you'd be infringing on the patent rights. But if you make a model that looks similar to a patented work but does not function like the patented work, such as model of a car, then no amount of effort printing out that model is going to magically make it function like a car. I'm not a lawyer though so maybe that example isn't legally correct, but that was my impression reading that statement. ForeverFlying (talk) 20:01, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
