What to do with old photos
Hello from North Louisiana! I’m wondering what do you do with photos once you upload them? Should I delete all the pictures from my phone that I’ve taken and already uploaded? Or save them? Ktkvtsh (talk) 14:24, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- I mostly delete after I upload, just for matters of storage space. Much of images I also upload to my Flickr. I save a few I think are more important. You ask what I do - what works for you may or may not be different. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 14:39, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- The free tier has limited storage; pay is unlimited. It's one of the few services I pay for - again, that's just me. I know there are other places to put photos online, but don't know enough about current options and details to give you advice on it. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 18:55, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info! I have one more question. Do you know if Flickr let's you upload hundreds of photos at a time from a phone? WikiMediaCommons crashes on mobile if you try to upload more than 7 at a time for me. Need to find a way to get my photos off my phone and onto my computer, if you know of any options. Ktkvtsh (talk) 23:36, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- Bulk uploads are usually faster on Flickr than Commons. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 12:34, 19 June 2026 (UTC)

Early closure
You closed the second nomination of Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Areylle after just 4 days. Dronebogus' original mass DR mostly argued "fetish", my mass DR was about accuracy. The INUSE argument is in the process of being resolved after I got mswiki involved which was responsible for the majority of the uses.
I say delete, Dronebogus says delete, Belbury just has an INUSE problem (which was getting resolved) and seems neutral otherwise, Taylor 49 says delete, Lx 121 wants to keep and Andy wants to keep. This wasn't a COM:SNOW DR to close speedily. At the same time you speedily closed several of the individual DRs that had no more rationale than "Unused fetish slop" as "delete".
Could you please revert your closure? (if that's technically difficult I can do it with a tool) - Alexis Jazz ping plz 20:50, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- My apologies for being a bit on edge. I put a lot of time into that DR and everything that surrounds it while I'm getting cooked in a heatwave. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 21:05, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, I wondered if there was maybe a misread here. Dronebogus's individual DRs weren't a carefully considered subset - I think they were intending to indiscriminately nominate all of this user's AI content for deletion as "fetish slop", but were doing so one DR at a time for whatever reason, and hadn't finished.
- Alexis Jazz stepped in to make a single DR covering all the images, to keep the discussion in one place, and has been giving the images an actual case-by-case review. (And - thanks for this - communicating with other projects on the INUSE question.) Belbury (talk) 21:25, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- Belbury, I just noticed one of the speedy closes was Commons:Deletion requests/File:Matsyasana.png which was in use. I'm guessing by accident as Dronebogus replaced the wrong image in Matsyasana (Diff ~6875769), the caption doesn't match the image anymore. I'll fix that article. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 23:00, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- Pardon, I seemed to carelessly follow links from Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Areylle thinking it was older request to be closed. (Multiple deletion requests using the same name can confuse if one misses noticing the date of individual sections!). I have no objection to undeleting any that were in use, or any that any other admin thinks were closed inappropriately. Thanks for drawing my attention to this. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 23:47, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, I've undone the closure. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 02:20, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
- All of these images were in use on mswiki immediately prior to the DRs, Dronebogus had personally removed them from that project shortly before nominating them. (I've opened a thread at Commons talk:Project_scope#Interpretations of INUSE on whether removing images from projects you aren't otherwise active on is a nifty deletion request lifehack, or against the spirit of the policy.) Cats on horse-drawn vehicles
@Infrogmation: Why have you twice removed Category:Horse-drawn carts in Mexico and Category:Horse-drawn vans from File:Corn vender carriage in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico 1924.tif? ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 05:34, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- Because it is a TIF duplicate of a categorized jpg, per categorization in Category:TIFF images with categorized JPGs. The two versions are linked to each other, and the jpg version has the descriptive categories. (I did not start this practice; as I understand it it avoids duplication, TIFs are archival, and jpg versions generally preferred for usage.) Thanks for asking and thanks for your work. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 05:40, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- Interesting. I'm new-ish to WikiCommons and recently started categorizing many carriage images, then realized the horse-drawn category hierarchy was wonky and I'm trying to fix it too. I've seen these .tiff and .jpg pairs before, wondered about them, then moved on. Good to know about this little bit of wikicommons. I'll keep an eye out for them because I do encounter them. WikiCommons seems like the wild west compared to Wikipedia, with less templates and noticeboards and stuff. It's nice to 'meet' someone who speaks native English. If I have questions, can I leave you a note or email you? Once I'm oriented on a subject, I can accomplish much on my own. ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 05:57, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- Sure, I'm a regular and admin on Commons. If you have questions you can't find answers to feel free to ask. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 06:02, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- Wonderful. Do you have a preference between your user talk page, somewhere else, or email? And my first question: Does WikiCommons have sandboxes or can I just make one? (I've been using my user page for notes.) ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 06:07, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

- (unindent) If it's something you don't mind being seen by others, my talk page is usually good - most days I'm on Commons more often than checking my email. I don't know about sandboxes, but user subpages are fairly common (User:name/subpage name). -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 06:13, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

- @Grorp: Thanks for your message. I'm replying here, some details I may not have useful comments on, but I'll share a few general thoughts. Categorizing types of horse-drawn vehicles is an important and worthy project. (I expect I'm similar to many people with some interest in history in knowing that there was specific set terminology for such vehicles but not knowing enough to give proper names by sight). Your sandbox overview at User:Grorp/sandbox looks to my non-expert eyes to be well done and useful. Moving it to a gallery page IMO would be appropriate. It is not uncommon for people interested in a topic to have different levels of expertise. Talk pages are often useful in clearing disputes, especially if more than 2 people can be found. Sometimes it's useful to have images in more than one category on different category trees - for example categorized both by specific name of vehicle type and for country of location... though if there are large numbers of images sharing such categories, an intersection category like "Xx type vehicles in Yy country" can be useful. I'm sorry I don't have better or more specific advice on some of your points, but on chance that some of what I say might be helpful, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks again for your work. New Orleans
I’m in New Orleans for a few days for a business trip and vacation if you’d like to meet up for a drink. If you know of any pet friendly places. I’ve got my dogs. Ktkvtsh (talk) 03:40, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks! Are you going to be mostly in a particular part of town? Not having a dog myself, I'm not too familiar with where is dog friendly. One place I happened to notice is I visited the other day "The Batture" https://www.batture.com Category:The Batture, New Orleans. It's pleasant, but located rather at the far end of uptown, out of the way if you're not visiting the Universities or the Zoo. I'm sure there are other possibilities you can find in a search. Enjoy your visit! -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 19:17, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
- We have enjoyed our stay so far. We are staying in the central business district. The Golden Lantern is a dog friendly bar we found. We’ve spent our first day mostly in the central business district and French quarter. We drove over and saw the old buildings by the hope haven walking trail in Marrero. There’s so much to see! - @Ktkvtsh: If you haven't already found it, "Dog friendly guide to New Orleans" webpage https://www.neworleans.com/blog/post/dog-friendly-guide-to-new-orleans/ may be of interest. Can you check building name for me?
Good afternoon, I believe I have mixed up some building names. I think I had it right in the beginning and thought I was wrong and requested some moves.

- From a quick look that does look like the Boggs building. Two rather architecturally similar buildings a block apart. If it's helpful, the Hebert Buildings is the one on Lafayette Square (upriver side, meaning furthest from Poydras), Boggs fronts Poydras Street.
