Public art in U.S.
Are you sure of this? As I understand it, the law that took effect in 1978 also changed the definition of "publication", and the mere installation of a work of art in a public place no longer necessarily constituted publication. - Jmabel ! talk 18:58, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- I edited that mention, now it is better? SomeFancyUsername (talk) 01:39, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Балтийское море.png
| This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Балтийское море.png, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Autopatroller
Hi, I gave you the Autopatroller right. Thanks for your contributions, Yann (talk) 13:29, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
They are still public domain.
@SomeFancyUsername I don’t think we should wait until majority of people know, there are proof of non renewals in the entries and I think instead we can spread the word.
Just my opinion, feel free to disagree but we can’t just throw out our hard work and research. ~2026-27509-71 (talk) 13:56, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
- How about scope section?
Due to the characters are younger than 150 years, people will attempting re-adding them to that list. SomeFancyUsername (talk) 14:43, 7 May 2026 (UTC)- What does that mean? ~2026-27509-71 (talk) 14:51, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
- Well me and @999real already have things under control. So don’t worry. ~2026-27509-71 (talk) 14:52, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
- What you even talking about we are just removing the things from syndicates that was renewed REAL 💬 ⬆ 15:12, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
- Exactly. Any pre-1964 work that wasn’t renewed are still PD even if not a lot of people know it is public domain. That’s why we research and help those in need. ~2026-27509-71 (talk) 17:03, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
- Is anything okay? @SomeFancyUsername ~2026-27509-71 (talk) 23:16, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
- Almost okay, but I want tell you one thing:
if big number of people don't know about it, exist risk what the companies can use copyfraud to "protection". This can make a lot of problems. SomeFancyUsername (talk) 01:10, 8 May 2026 (UTC)- Copyfraud is illegal and they can lose if they try to state otherwise, there is no need to worry. ~2026-27509-71 (talk) 14:08, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

Nominations
Thank you for the nominations. They raise a difficult issue concerning the copyright status of Soviet-era works in Ukraine, especially the relation between Soviet/Ukrainian SSR copyright law, the 1993 Ukrainian Copyright Act, later Ukrainian amendments, and URAA.
However, I would kindly ask you not to nominate too many similar files at once. Each case requires checking the source, date, type of work, possible author, applicable Soviet/Ukrainian legal regime, and URAA status. I also have to verify my own statements against Ukrainian legal acts and, where possible, legal literature.
For the same reason, I would appreciate more detailed deletion rationales. A general reference to COM:Ukraine or URAA is not always enough, especially for older Soviet works, anonymous or unattributed works, photographs, monuments, or works that may have entered the public domain under earlier law.
I am not objecting to the discussion itself. I only ask that the nominations be made gradually and with detailed legal reasoning, because these cases cannot be resolved by a simple year calculation alone. Venzz (talk) 13:33, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
COM:PERNOM
I believe I requested you stop using this shortcut. I have already explained why it is wrong and shouldn’t even exist. Coupled with pinging it is exceptionally annoying. If you keep doing this I am going to request administrative intervention. Dronebogus (talk) 13:10, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Dronebogus if you think what it is wrong then nominate that page to deletion. I'll also ping @Dabmasterars as he is author of the page. SomeFancyUsername (talk) 13:20, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- I don’t think the whole page is wrong, just that shortcut. And while I probably will suggest removing it I would also just like you to stop spamming that link with me. There’s a difference between the validity of a shortcut and the validity of badgering another user with it. Dronebogus (talk) 13:25, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- I put that link to all people who just said "per nom", but you is only one person who is still many times uses "per nom". SomeFancyUsername (talk) 13:53, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- @SomeFancyUsername, there is nothing wrong with a "per nom" statement. Please note that COM:ATA is currently an essay, it is not a guideline or a policy. Also, it is important to keep in mind this paragraph, mentioned at the lead section of COM:ATA.
As this essay tries to stimulate people to use sound arguments in deletion discussions, it is important to realize that countering the keep or delete arguments of other people, or dismissing them outright, by simply referring them to this essay is not encouraged. (See also the section #Just pointing at a policy or guideline below.)
- Also, your current behavior at DRs is similar to what COM:ATA#Citing this page indiscriminately is describing users to avoid to do. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 13:56, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- I put that link to all people who just said "per nom", but you is only one person who is still many times uses "per nom". SomeFancyUsername (talk) 13:53, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- My reasoning to include PERNOM is since deletions are based on consensus, approving someone else's opinion without further elaboration doesn't change that consensus. I will say that constantly pinging Drogus when he already got the memo is definitely annoying to him, even if he disagrees with the said memo.
- Very little of the COM:ATA page were done from experience with Commons deletion requests. My additions were mostly either policy based, common sense (like that personal opinions are irrelevant) or info borrowed from W:WP:ATA that partially or fully apply there. PERNOM is the latter, which may be a problem, since Commons and Wikipedia seem to have different discussion ethics. Even then, COM:ATAATA exists (like Tvpuppy mentioned), clarifying that just because someone used an erroneous argument does not mean their entire view is invalid.
- I admit, I don't have nearly enough experience to write a page like this, but it turned out to be way better than I expected. Dabmasterars [EN/RU] (talk/uploads) 15:49, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
