You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Temporary account IP viewer granted

Hello, DCB. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Commons:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).

It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:

When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).

Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. Hi, please read Commons:Derivative works. As these are protected works of art, permission from Mrinalini Mukherjee would be required. Unfortunately, as she is no longer alive, permission from her heirs or other rights holders is necessary. Her art is protected for 60 years after her death (under Indian law). Hallo, bei allem, was die Stadt selbst hochgeladen hat, wäre das vermutlich kein Problem, weil sie beim Upload eben explizit den Lizenzbestimmungen der Copyleft-Lizenzen zugestimmt haben. Bei deinen Uploads liegt eine solche Zustimmung allerdings nicht vor, wenn ich da nichts übersehe, oder? Die Beschränkung auf journalistische Zwecke, wie sie auf den Dateibeschreibungsseiten angegeben ist, widerspricht leider Commons:Lizenzen. DCB (talk) 08:08, 4 May 2026 (UTC)

Hello there, i need to point out that the image file File:Swagalicious Igbo woman wearing Jooji obiakwa(double wrapper) with uweobi and Ichafu… Igbo Amaka.jpg which you remained to File:Igbo woman wearing gele.jpg is a cultural misappropriation and cultural erasure. User:Dolpina who suggested this renaming has been targeting this specific cultural group vandalizing descriptions to support her POV as stated at the File Talk Page.

Hello, he is literally telling lies. Check the talk page. He is dedicated to push an igbo pov and doesn't want ti be objective for some reason because he is igbo. Those are pictures of gele, ichafu just means headdress in igbo and it is represented by flat scarfs. Gele is worn by all Nigerians. He has also been reverting my other posts and I'm harassed by his behaviour which I'm also reporting right now. Dolpina (talk) 07:53, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

Regarding the file renaming issue, after you reverted the file to their ORIGINAL NAME, the template was placed again by the user, then an ANI was opened and the issue was resolved stating that renaming those files was not necessary, but we forgot to remove the rename template on those files. Ans now a User with File Mover Right has just renamed the files because he saw the template there without really understanding the issue on ground. I notified him, but no response Here, so I decided to let you know and also plead that you revert to their Original name.

His account has been full of bad faith edits and "guarding" images. This image is a Gele. Okay thanks, will be there. He is not open to collaboration or listening, he keeps reverting all my edits of images uploaded around the same period with similar misinformation.
