You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.

Hi Paccyd33. I noticed that deletion requests you made 1, 2, and 3 were not done correctly.

This is not an unusual mistake, but I'm leaving you this message to help you get this right in the future.

There are several steps to making a deletion request (DR) correctly; among other things you must transclude the deletion into the correct daily DR list, and to notify the page creator and optionally other human (non-bot) editors of the page. By far the easiest way to do all of this correctly is to use the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests, which takes care of all that using vetted Javascript. If you prefer to add the {{Delete}} template or {{Category for discussion}} template manually, you are required to follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed). Again, though, there is no need to follow complex instructions if you use the automatic tools.

Also worth knowing: on Commons, {{Delete}} is not a "speedy delete" request like it is on many other projects; instead, it starts a discussion of whether the file should be deleted. If you think a particular media file really obviously does not belong on Commons, see the instructions at Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion. Common cases that are better handled with a speedy delete than a DR include:

own work within 7 days (COM:CSD#G7)
empty category never likely to be used (COM:CSD#C2).

Common bad reasons people have for making DRs in the first place include:

after renaming a category, trying to delete the resulting redirect in violation of policy COM:CATRED
making a DR for a file where there is already a current DR
trying to delete one's own work within 7 days (use {{G7}} instead)
placing {{Delete}} on the deletion subpage itself, or on a talk page.

Also, please don't use {{Ffd}} (that's an English Wikipedia thing).

@Jeff G.: What do you mean "despite their instructions"? I immediately agreed and supported such a deletion request when I was made aware that the flickr image itself was under the incorrect copyright, not my upload. @Jeff G.: As I said in my previous comment, completely different circumstances not covered in COM:L where it is the fault of the flickr uploader. COM:LL even addresses this, saying the practise can "deceive good faith users who accept the illegitimate licenses at face value." I also wish to say that each of these warnings have been for different reasons and your "three instructions" were three at the same time and for the same reason, not three seperate instances of me "ignoring your requests". I think the claim that I have ignored editor's instructions is completely unreasonable as, each time I have been warned about something, I have immediately relented. Counting the three you warned me of, which you obviously should when arguing this "ignoring requests" claim, I have made three errors, one of which was the result of a flickr page with a false license. I am not being dense regarding that license point, as it was uploaded by the official star wars flickr under that license, who I imagined would have coordinated with the people they collaborated with for the project before releasing it. In summary: I have been cooperative, ignored nothing on my talk page and made two errors which can be attributed to my misinterpretation of the rules. I do not think that is cause for a block, I think that would be depriving the site of somebody who is trying to help and has made 5 bad edits and 68 ones which, to my knowledge, align with COM:L.
