Please consult the administrator who deleted the file, or COM:DRV if you require such assistance. I am also not an VRT member, so please consult at COM:VRTN if you require such assistance.

- I'm happy to discuss any edits/comments I may have made, but please try to keep all comments civil. We are all volunteers and all make mistakes. There are really very things that I can screw up so badly that they cannot be undone if needed. Any mistakes I make are always made in good faith, and I will do my best to correct them as soon as possible. Personal attacks, etc., however, will not be tolerated at all and I will bring them to the attention of administrators at COM:AN without hesitation if necessary.

I am not sure the uploader is as inexpert as you might think
At Commons:Deletion requests/Uploads by F.E. Johnson Jr. I have left a comment, currently the latest comment. At first I considered I was trying to help an inexpert editor, one not familiar with copyrights. The more I discovered the less I felt that to be correct.
Patently not the deceased Forest E, but the "jr' tends to be given the first child of the same name as the father. If I am correct then we are dealing with a reasonably large business fish in a reasonably small pond, and a photography expert. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 00:39, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- It's not that I don't agree with what you posted (both above and at the DR) per se, it's just that I'm still willing to show them a little good faith. What you posted above is about "jr." is, FWIW, kind of obvious, and I think most experienced Commons users will assume the same. Whether enough of them feel it's OK to keep the files, though, is still yet to be determined. As I last posted in the DR, though, I'm kind of leaning in the direction of deleting everything except the scans of printed works which have already entered into the public domain. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:53, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- My good faith is reasonably elastic. I am simply wishing not to be correct. I looked at their poor enWiki draft, and rather liked the boat designer, racer, builder. Aesthetically I like his boat designs. They stand the test of time. His racing achievements are really a testament to the boats, rather than the driver. The picture archive, almost certainly less the trophies, feels somehow to be significant. And yet something says to me that all is not right, and I feel my boat oriented enthusiasm has carried me too far in the uploader's favour. If they come clean and licence material correctly then I am ok with the files. EnWiki is another country, they do things differently there (awful misappropriation and mangling of a quotation! 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 01:27, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- Once again, I don't disagree with the sentiment of what you posted. Commons, though, is less concerned about things like COI/promotional editing on English Wikipedia than it's about COM:L and COM:SCOPE. Now, given the latest unblock request made by the uploader over at English Wikipedia, it seems quite clear that they're not going to be unblocked anytime soon (perhaps never) because they still don't understand en:WP:NOT. My guess is that if they keep posting such unblock requests or exhibiting IDHT behavior, they'll have their talk page access eventually removed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:44, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- I hadn't seen that. Oh dear, what a pity, never mind. We've seen that type of appeal so often. I wonder why folk don't understand that humility and contrition work for all except COI editors there. No, he's toast there. With correct L the pictures are, trophies apart, in scope here. There is aanargument that may be made for educational value. And here I also am unconcerned about COI. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 02:02, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- Good grief. They are not Johnson! The project(s) on enWiki were assigned to them. See "jr's" talk page where they say they are not. Poor intern. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 02:21, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- That bit of info would've been very helpful to know from the get go and would've made it much easier to try to help them. I feel it's too late for that now, and they're just never going to get unblocked. What's more, if a new account shows up trying to create an article about the dad, it's going to most likely immediately lead to an SPI. This also really complicates things on Commons (or makes them easier depending on your POV) because now the uploader can't really claim they're an heir as a basis for a license. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:20, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- It makes me feel sorry for the minion. If they ever wished to come and be a hobbnyist they have an enormous uphill battle. However, I limit that sympathy by their using falsehoods, whcih was voluntary. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 09:40, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
Hello, I've found a link to your post. Actually, there're a lot of dubious uploads there, including 'own photos' of people who died in 1961 and even in 1903, so I've decided to file RfDs. Komarof (talk) 13:44, 16 March 2026 (UTC) |
