Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]][[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.Elisfkc (talk) 17:31, 13 July 2026 (UTC)

Hi, you said at ANU in December that you would categories many images that I uploaded as possible
and in March that you were really sorry for forgetting to categorise the land vehicle images, next time I will categorise the images before updoading
.
Given the notices above on your recent uploads, are you batch uploading images again without categorising them? Belbury (talk) 17:55, 13 July 2026 (UTC)
- No, but when i upload aircraft that registration number category not created, I just leave blank until the category are created. 6D (talk) 00:18, 14 July 2026 (UTC)
- File:BAoverUnited byWTLsfoDec2014 (16182154390).jpg above was a duplicate of File:BAoverUnited 122214.jpg which was uploaded in 2014 and had already been categorised, including a registration number.
- You can create categories yourself when they are missing, or you can use broader categories. Files should not be left completely uncategorised. Belbury (talk) 08:44, 14 July 2026 (UTC)
- For duplicate one, Flickr2commons only detect same file name on when moving albums, unless moving single image and all images taken by that photographer which detect same file at hash level. And for missing categories one, I would create category for single images and use broader categories for albums. 6D (talk) 09:25, 14 July 2026 (UTC)
