AV1 encodes

I have encoded Zaza first (currently uploading). Since the file uses the grain synth feature of the AV1 codec, the transcodes will presumably fail. Also, I fixed the frame rate of the film; the source file you linked is film NTSC, but there are actually 21 frames of content presented (with duplicates); I've fixed this, since we are not limited by the blu-ray spec. Thank you! prospectprospekt (talk) 20:46, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
Actually, I couldn't get the chunked uploader to work properly today, so, at least for now, I'm putting it on archive.org. When the upload is done, it'll be available at this link. I think you'll find the encode is of good quality. It's also only 2.9 GB. D. Benjamin Miller (talk) 22:24, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Concerning HathiTrust page images

Can you point me in the right direction of removing the HathiTrust watermarks? (especially Google-digitized, public domain works) I found no download option that would get the images like yours. 103.219.194.134 03:48, 31 January 2025 (UTC)

The url for upright images in the png format is https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/imgsrv/image?id={ID};seq={N};size=full;format=image/png;rotation=0. If rotation=0 is changed to rotation=180, the images will be upside down but the watermarks will still be on the bottom, so you could remove the watermarks by combining the upright and upside down images. prospectprospekt (talk) 04:49, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
Wow! Thanks! 103.219.194.134 02:53, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
I have actually found a new way to do it —— just download the single page pdf and remove the last obj reference of the page obj! You can also use tools like this: https://github.com/StephenGenusa/PDF-Watermark-Remove. You may find this way much more convenient. 103.219.194.134 03:29, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
I might be wrong, but I think that the PDFs have a lower resolution than the images. prospectprospekt (talk) 09:10, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
You can verify that pretty easily. 103.219.194.134 04:54, 2 February 2025 (UTC)

Me at the Zoo

Hi Prospectprospekt

At Commons:Deletion requests/File:Me at the zoo.webm you mentioned that you thought Karim was a joint owner, citing Commons:Joint authorship. However , that latter page does not say that we have a guideline allowing such works,it merely says Commons has no guideline on what to do if the person releasing it under the CC licence is a joint licence holder. As such, I think the precautionary principle should apply and we should delete it. And that's assuming he even is a joint owner, which I don't think was proven beyond doubt , given that the circumstances weren't proven. Or am I missing something? Cheers Amakuru (talk) 07:58, 19 February 2025 (UTC)

@Amakuru feel free to file a new deletion request if you feel that the rationale for keeping the file is lacking. I tried not to take a side on the joint authorship issue, but putting that aside, there is the question of if Karim is the sole author. The WMF says that "If someone wanted to take a picture of himself at a particular time and place, posed in a certain manner, but did not have a timer or tripod, and asked someone else to take the photo for him, most likely the person asking someone else to take his photo would be considered the sole author", but that is in contrast to Shah v. NYP Holdings, which concluded the opposite. prospectprospekt (talk) 20:29, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

Ward Moore covers

Hi! I've seen you've uploaded a few first edition dust jackets of Ward Moore books. This is great! Do you plan to crop out the covers and add them to the relevant wikipedia and wikidata pages? Star Manatee (talk) 11:27, 27 June 2025 (UTC)

Not at the moment; I'm planning to use them on Wikisource. prospectprospekt (talk) 17:19, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
If you don't plan to, I may in any case, as some of these pages have non-free files when the covers are public domain, failing the non-free criteria Star Manatee (talk) 14:37, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
