Redmin making bot edits

Redmin (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · edit filter log · block user · block log) is making bot edits, not following COM:BOT that requires approval, a seperate account and a rate (edit) limit. Redmin is currently breaking all of those and flooding everyone's watchlists.

I have requested them to stop but clearly the account has been left unattended (see the contrib log), as the account continues to make mass bot edits. Bidgee (talk) 10:36, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

User notified Bidgee (talk) 10:39, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
Hello, no, I am actually running a modified version of AC/DC instead. (My fork allows recursively getting category members of any subcategories of a chosen category, which has been very helpful in adding P180 statements.) Using JavaScript tools to make large numbers of edits is not against COM:BOT at all, rather it explicitly states it is allowed. Regarding my 'account [being] left unattended', I had merely loaded a large number of files to be edited, and stepped away from the computer for some time.
@Bidgee, please remember to assume good faith instead of going around casting aspersions from the next time around.
Thank you. Redmin (talk) 11:18, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
Can you please reduce the amount of edits you make, flooding watchlists with no way of hiding it using filters, makes it hard to follow my watchlist. Your actions are bot like! As per Bot speed "A bot carrying out non-urgent tasks should not edit more frequently than once every 5 seconds. Bots carrying out urgent tasks, such as reverting vandalism, may edit faster. Unflagged bots should edit more slowly than flagged bots as their edits are visible in watchlists, and high-speed editing will swamp other users' lists.".
Please respect your fellow Commons contributors. Bidgee (talk) 11:27, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
I could make it so that the change tag for AC/DC is added to these edits but that would not be technically correct, and might cause people to complain to Lucas Werkmeister about supposed bugs (like the high number of edits, which would not be possible with AC/DC) instead of myself. I would gladly add a different edit tag if a suitable tag were to be created by the admins though. Regarding the amount of edits, how do you expect a human to proceed? If I were a bot, I could just schedule these and process them over time but since I am a human volunteer, I am just going to edit when I am able to! And you keep pointing me to COM:BOT but I want my fellow contributors to be able to see and scrutinize my edits precisely because I am a human who respects them! Please try to understand that these edits are not maintenance work but content addition. Can you please check if 'muting' me from Special:Preferences helps? Even with the current edit rate (which I think from experience is slower than edits made with standard AC/DC where I would notice 75 edits would be made per minute usually, likely because of the much bigger number of files that have to be processed), it took nearly two hours to edit just under 5800 files. Redmin (talk) 11:49, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
If you have to edit a lot of pages for sustained period, it is usually best to get a bot account set up and get approved — you get better API treatment (Action API rate limit, CDN rate limit,…), and less headache like this.  regards, Revi 13:44, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
I would honestly rather not have to make a new approval request every time I decide I want to make, due to the lack of a better word, a new kind of edit. That being said, the prospect of higher API rate limits is an attractive one indeed… Redmin (talk) 16:46, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
Redmin, dear Lord please use the AC/DC ToolSDC changed suggested tag per Schlurcher tag. I don't care if it's technically correct or not, you can clarify in the edit summary if needed. I'm maxed-out looking at 500 watchlist entries and using ShushChanges and it's still not enough: I can't see any changes before 9:03 today. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 13:47, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
There is the Tag ToolSDC for these type of edits. Please use that one. --Schlurcher (talk) 16:07, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
✓ Done. Thanks for pointing that out. Hopefully this solves the problem with watchlists getting flooded. Redmin (talk) 16:38, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
More importantly for many of these files like File:İstanbul 154.jpg depicts (P180): Süleymaniye Mosque is wrong it should be location of creation (P1071) REAL 💬 14:26, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
Is this documented somewhere? I do not see any usage example for media on P1071. Wikidata’s modeling docs help avoid confusion like this but I have not found any equivalent for SDC. Redmin (talk) 16:42, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
@Redmin: See Commons:Structured data/Modeling/Location -- Schlurcher (talk) 16:46, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
Thanks, I was not expecting to find that under /location but anyways, I will fix what I erroneously added. Redmin (talk) 16:59, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
Let me know if anything needs to be rollbacked. Chuckbot is ready if needed. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 18:47, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

Hi all, we have released a new dataset of potential logos uploaded in April 2026, together with another one of those which have already been deleted as of 2026-05-02. We are sharing them with you for your consideration.

This is part of our current work with the logo detection tool. We hope it will be useful for your moderation activities.

If you encounter issues with the datasets or have comments/requests, please reach out to me or to Sannita (WMF).

Thanks for your attention! –-MFossati (WMF) (talk) 11:19, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

Delete uploads by User:Tojiboyev Hamid Zafarovich

Please, delete uploads by this user. These are copyright violation. Umarxon III (talk) 18:10, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

I just did a random spot check, and while I've found plenty of other images of these locations online, I can't find any exact matches. @Umarxon III, Why are these copyright violations? All the Best -- Chuck Talk 18:44, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
And why is this on this page instead of COM:ANU or even COM:ANV or COM:ANB (which is to say there are three places that would have been more appropriate). I will notify the user who is the target of this. - Jmabel ! talk 23:00, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

Image deletion please

Erik Baas, why did you add rotate to File:Görsel Çalışma Amasya.png? If justified, you need also to add the degree of required rotation. --Túrelio (talk) 10:24, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
No. {{Rotate}} says "Please add the parameters |degree=90/180/270 (clockwise) if you want SteinsplitterBot to automatically rotate this image", whih is not what I want. - Erik Baas (talk) 10:40, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
Would you mind to answer my first question? --Túrelio (talk) 10:49, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
The image needs circa 2 degrees of rotation (let's leave that to an expert) , because the camera was not horizontal. - Erik Baas (talk) 10:56, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
If you don't believe me: ask User:Sebastian Wallroth, or compare (for example) File:Bachie Uchaf - geograph.org.uk - 8215427.jpg, File:Nederland volendam.JPG and File:De Bussel oosterhout P1170751.jpg to their previous versions. - Erik Baas (talk) 11:08, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

Erik Baas, Google disagrees. Upload it to https://gemini.google.com/app and say "scan synthid". - Alexis Jazz ping plz 13:27, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
Can an admin check if files listed on Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Aksaalp are reuploads of Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Alptugsezgin? Files names are very similar, for example: - Alexis Jazz ping plz 14:45, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
@Alexis Jazz, the ones you mentioned above are same as you say it. File:Görsel Çalışma Gemlik.png is same as File:Gemlik Görsel Çalışma.png, and File:Görsel Çalışma Ordu.png is same as File:Ordu Görsel Çalışma.png. Good to believe that these all files are re-uploads. signed, Aafi (talk) 03:30, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

Inaccurate protection message

File:Joaquin 2015-10-03 1437Z.png has cascade protection and says This page is currently protected, and can be edited only by administrators. But that's not really true, it is only protected from overwriting.
Can we adjust this message? I'm not sure about the details of cascading protection, can it inhibit editing (not just overwriting) in other cases? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 17:05, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

@Alexis Jazz: cascading protection used to inhibit editing. TPTB at WMF decided that it was too much protection, they just wanted to protect from overwriting. We should change that message. I think an Interface Admin has to make such a change. Do we need consensus for it?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 17:26, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
I don't think we need a formal consensus process to say a clearly inaccurate message should be corrected. - Jmabel ! talk 03:56, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
I changed this at MediaWiki:Cascadeprotected. GPSLeo (talk) 04:20, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

IBAN

Hello, I would like to request the end of my interaction ban with Dronebogus. During these past more than six months, I have not violated it at any point. Still I commit not to nominate his images for deletion or provoke him, and I apologize for having done so previously, unnecessarily taking up the community's time. I have recently started medication and am much calmer now. I would not mind if he nominated my uploads for deletion, including those by Panteleev; I no longer care about that anymore. Thank you. Yacàwotçã (talk) 22:57, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

I’m not sure if commenting violates my end but I would like to appeal to have the Iban removed completely. Besides a few incidents at the beginning of the ban I have only violated it accidentally and tried to remove or apologize for these violations. Dronebogus (talk) 23:25, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Agree if both parties think it's a good idea, then I'm in favor of removing it, the less IBANs on Commons, the better. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 01:27, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
Agree, similarly, but please Dronebogus, don't nominate the Panteleev files for deletion. I think we've reached a reasonable state of things there, and it has eaten way too much time and effort already. - Jmabel ! talk 03:59, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
