POTD proposal
I love your POTD selection for 2028-04-14! Thematically, it seems more appropriate for Ash Wednesday than Good Friday. Any objection to moving it to 2028-03-01? Nheyob (talk) 01:02, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Nheyob: Thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestion and for taking the time to point this out. I've now updated the POTD to Ash Wednesday and selected a more thematically fitting image for Good Friday. My original intention with the previous image was to convey Christ's suffering and the inner endurance of Good Friday, especially in the sense of humility and reflection that resonates in Protestant tradition. I truly appreciate your careful attention and the helpful tip - it's wonderful to have your perspective, and it has been very valuable in refining the selection. Kind regards, -- Radomianin (talk) 10:00, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Radomianin: I am grateful that the suggestion was helpful. Your work has been a continual inspiration for me. The new Good Friday POTD selection is excellent! Best regards, Nheyob (talk) 16:03, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
Mapillary-Wünsche
Hallo lieber Radomianin,
File:Stadtbibliothek Naila vor 2025 Mapillary (hdmn) 2017-09-15 14H00M32S982 (280815210197306 at H6HrVvJ1Sy3R7kRT1AbjPw with Sony E5823) (cropped).jpg zeigt die mittlerweile abgerissene Stadtbibliothek.

Wiki Loves Folklore 2026 has started, Join us!

Hello Radomianin,
The world’s traditions are disappearing faster than we can document them, but you can help change that.
On behalf of the Wiki Loves Folklore International Team, we are reaching out to invite you to contribute to the 2026 edition of our global campaign.
Share Your Cultural Heritage with the World
Wiki Loves Folklore is an international media contest dedicated to documenting the "intangible" beauty of our cultures. Whether it’s the vibrant colours of a folk festival, the rhythm of a traditional dance, the secrets of a family recipe, or the legends of your hometown, your media helps preserve these legacies for generations to come.
How You Can Contribute Participating is simple, and every upload contributes to the world's largest free knowledge repository:
- Capture: Take photos, record videos, or capture audio of folk activities, music, mythology, or traditional wear.
- Upload: Share your files on Wikimedia Commons between 1 February 2026 and 31 March 2026.
- Win: Beyond the satisfaction of preservation, there are international prizes for the most impactful contributions.
Ready to get started? Click here to upload your media now or visit the Main Project Page for full rules and category details.
Your perspective is a vital piece of the global cultural puzzle. We can't wait to see the folklore you bring to life.
Warm regards,
#WeTogether

Thank You for Your Encouraging Words
Dear Radomianin:
Thank you so much for your beautiful and generous letter. I truly appreciate the time you took to write to me and to revisit my Iguazú Falls photos. Reading your words meant more to me than you can imagine. Today, this Sunday, I have just returned from Iguazú. My father, who is 80 years old, lives there, and every two weeks my wife Claudia and I take the opportunity to travel and visit him. It is always a very special time for us as a family, and Iguazú is not only a breathtaking place but also deeply personal to me. On a personal level, I want to tell you that your message is the first time I have felt such genuine encouragement from a fellow contributor without mere criticism. Your words truly touched me. In fact, I shared your letter with my wife, and we read it together. It was a very meaningful moment for us both. Thank you for that. As a U.S. journalist of Argentine origin, photography is for me a way of connecting my professional eye with my emotional roots. Knowing that someone on the other side of the world can feel the enthusiasm and joy I try to capture in my images is incredibly rewarding. I am sincerely grateful for your kindness and support. Please know that your encouragement motivates me to continue sharing glimpses of Argentina — its landscapes, its everyday life, and its spirit. If one day you finally make it to Iguazú Falls, I hope they exceed your expectations. They truly are unforgettable. We'll be here whenever you like; you'll be welcome and served by our family. With warm regards from Argentina, Horacio Cambeiro. Horacio Cambeiro 21:27, 15 February 2026 (UTC)
- Dear Horacio, thank you very much for your warm and generous reply. If my message felt meaningful or even exceptional to you, please know that your response feels just as meaningful to me. It is rare and genuinely wonderful to encounter such openness and kindness here. Although Commons and Wikipedia are primarily collaborative projects built on content and structure, moments like this quietly remind us that there are people, stories, and emotions behind the work. There is often discussion about how much "social interaction" belongs in these spaces, yet shared enthusiasm and mutual encouragement are also part of what keeps communities alive.
- I'm sorry to hear that you have so often received mainly critical feedback. Your photographs clearly have strong documentary value. They convey atmosphere, a sense of place, and a very human perspective - something that cannot be manufactured. I have long dreamed of seeing the Iguazú Falls myself. Whether I will ever manage to travel there, I honestly do not know, but your images make that distant wish feel a little more tangible. Living in northern Germany, close to Poland, I've developed a strong appreciation for images that convey atmosphere and a sense of place. Thank you again very much for your thoughtful words and your work :)
- With warm regards from Germany, -- Radomianin (talk) 22:55, 15 February 2026 (UTC)

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2025 voting is open!

Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2025 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the twentieth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just five images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
