Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.

Renames of Forts

Hi. Thanks for taking on updating category names. I'm not sure I agree with removing old Fort names from description and titles though. Obama did not visit Fort Liberty, he visited Fort Bragg. Hi, I reverted a few renames, but one failed. The title was so short that I (accidentally) copied both titles.. So please request the files that should have the old name, if there are still files left I didn't rename all of them. WP:GEONAME Sudtirolo / Alto Adige

Hello

All location names related to South Tyrol / Sudtirolo / Alto Adige have to adhere to WP:GEONAME rules, specifically en:Wikipedia:NBZ. These rules, which were agreed to almost 20 years ago, state that "Articles about locations in South Tyrol are placed according to the language of the linguistic majority." E.g. locations in Algund are in German, locations in Bolzano are in Italian, locations in Urtijëi are in Ladin, etc. Therefore I have reverted your edits at Category:Hydroelectric power station Tel (Lagundo) as it violated the agreed rules. I will also request that your move of the Category:Tschögglberg be reverted as the four comuni on the Tschögglberg have all a German majority (Hafling, Vöran, Mölten, Jenesien). Your edits to Category:Parco Stazione (Bolzano), Category:Passeggiata di Sant'Osvaldo (Bolzano) and Category:Virgolo are correct and adhere to Wikipedia:NBZ. @Noclador Thank you for your message. I had made those changes because I mistakenly assumed that Tschögglberg and the Hydroelectric power station Tel were also administratively connected to Bolzano, and therefore treated them the same way.

Name change

Regarding name cahnge of File:Diplomatic_missions_of_Syria-SVG.svg
The reason I named them two files with "-SVG" is to differentiate the vector versions from the raster versions.
If you have a thumbnail of those images with the caption under it will be more visible which is the vector versions when "-SVG" is in the name.
To me this is better then to have two identical named versions (raster and vector), it's more informative. --please ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 10:37, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
