Channel Island Flags

Hi! I have just discovered you and I firstly want to thank you for the fantastic vexillological work you are doing on behalf of people like me who are not technologically capable of doing your work. A particular thanks goes to adding the flags of the parishes of Jersey.

On the topic of the Channel Islands, would you be able to add the flags Guernsey's ten parishes? In addition, would you be able to update the flag of Brecqhou and stick it in the info box at the top? The flag should have the Barkley Brother's coat of arms in the bottom right of the flag... although now one of the brothers has passed away, does this mean that the flag changes again?

Thanks for converting this file to SVG. There's a typo in the new file: It should say Rome (as in Category:Rome, New York), not Reme. The original File:Us-ny-on.gif was pretty blurry, and it does look halfway between Rome and Reme. -Apocheir (talk) 20:42, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

It's also been brought to my attention that that isn't the current flag of Oneida County. The current one has the county seal instead of the pop-out and emblem with city names. See, for example, . Not personally, but a few examples of people who create coat of arms include Sodacan, Jack Ryan Morris (not too sure if Jack does requests, though).

I am afraid I am not able to vectorize the coat of arms in its style. It would take very, very long and would probably look comparable to the image. Instead, I have autotraced the coat of arms.

Alright. I have drawn the flag (and its text) to how it is shown in the image. Though, I have a few questions:

• Where is your source for the flag going from white to blue, rather than blue to red being the correct one?
• Where is your source for the colors being done incorrect accidentally?

I have also added an image with the fringe. I would also like to point out that the flag you uploaded seems to be very off (proportions, coat of arms, coat of arms is seen in the flag as not centered.) While the image wasn't too clear, I was able to make out a few things out of it.

"Colors according to Vexilla Mundi"

Czech city flags rarely have consistent palettes, this holds little weight (I skip the middleman and pick colours "according to me, personally") and making changes is a waste of time imo. Another Cuban municipality flag

Flag request

Hello,

I hope everything is alright. If it isn't too much trouble for you, I was wondering if you could vectorize and make an SVG file for the city flag of Wilmington, North Carolina? The best (and only version of the flag online) is from FOTW and it is just a cropped image of a mast. The flag is basically the city seal with gold text around it on a navy blue background. I understand if you can't do it but thanks for your time anyways.

Good question, the font seems to be a basic typeface. Doing some trail and error on word, it seems the font could be 'Georgia' or some variant of 'Times New Roman.' Online font identifiers can't seem to identify it due to the image quality. Sorry about that, but I think one of those or some other basic font would to the trick, Thanks again! Request to confirm validity of Mongol Tug

Hi Flagvisioner, I was trying to add a Mongol War banner I sourced from https://artsandculture.google.com/story/mongolian-empire-the-national-museum-of-mongolia/TwWB3jMjdJwYKg?hl=en to the the Mongol Empire page, but it got removed. I had a discussion with the person who removed it and they claimed that since it was a battle banner and not a symbol of the mongol empire it shouldn't be added. I am not denying its validity of existence, if the national museum contains a copy then there is certainly good reason to believe it existed. It would probably best be suited for another page, probably relating to Mongol standards or Mongol conquest. However, it is good to also note that the article for the Roman Empire uses its vexillum, a standard really ONLY used by the army, possibly the same case here. So it is disputable, however I am not sure how exactly to help further with this. Done with most. The Commons policy of not allowing images to be overwritten unless an exception is made is rather annoying, and I don't want to go through that right now; I think it was fine before, and this new policy creates a whole new workload for moderators.

Edit to add: I'm worried this automated template is misleading. When it says "If you created the content yourself" it's talking about who holds the copyright, not whether you were the person to sit down and create the SVG version. Legally speaking, recreating a raster image as an SVG is considered a reconstruction - and if the original work is copyrighted, that means it's a copyright violation.

I also tagged File:Flag of the Rapid City Police Department.svg with No Permission Given because I could see no evidence of copyright permission. On all three of these flags you claim to be "author" and I think you should know that just making an SVG version of a file does not confer authorship status nor copyright holding. So you should not be using tags like {{PD-self}} or {{self|cc-zero}} unless you are the actual copyright holder. Even if the image is public domain, it's incorrect for you to be claiming you have the right to release it public domain unless you hold the copyright. It's important to provide source information that provides provenance of a given file so that we can be use the copyright and attribution are correct.

It's great you're making high quality SVGs, that's important work that takes effort and skill. But the way to credit for yourself is with: |other fields={{Igen|Inkscape|+|u=[[User:Flagvisioner|Flagvisioner]]}} . (Replace Inkscape with whatever SVG software you're using, as needed).

The author field is intended for the original designer (i.e. copyright holder). I recommend you look over other files you've uploaded to be sure the have correct author information and licensing. I'm hoping this will be a straightforward task for you to provide the necessary information.

In all honesty, I believe it is even stupid that a symbol representing a group of people is not automatically in the public-domain; obviously people want to control its usage (Aborigine flag ex. and usually cities don’t see their flags as symbols of the people, just municipal government) but regardless; if they are viewed as “symbols of the people” they should be easily “available to the people”.

Yes, I know how to properly attribute properly. I simply marked myself as the author because it was easier, but I’m not gonna do that now; I don’t use Commons enough to care about doing so now. Plus, many of these files may include contacting tribal authorities for confirmation of permission; it’s not too late——you could do so before these files are deleted!

Also, remember; there are actual Indians out there who get images printed off of Wikimedia Commons as flags; in order to obtain the tribal flag, they must go through more hurdles to do so without these easily accessible images. Flagvisioner (talk) 00:07, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
