Image Tagging Image:MittagskogelPitztalVonN.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:MittagskogelPitztalVonN.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. --Digon3 talk 15:36, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you.

Deleted contents
Hello Cactus26,
the following content you uploaded is not free and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:
- Image:IUCNAusfuellhilfe2008.png
The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files which can be used for any purpose, including:
- use in any work, regardless of content
- creation of derivative works
- commercial use
- free distribution
See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload works you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions. abf /talk to me/ 13:18, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:44, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello. I have a question about this map you made. Are you sure about Blackbirds wintering in southern Iceland? Because it doesn't seem very logic, i mean, they migrate south to warmer climates in winter, and Iceland doesn't seem to fit. For me, the most logic think was for them to spend summer there and then migrate south...
Thanks in advance. Greetings, EuTuga msg 21:24, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm sure. I will give you more details soon.--Cactus26 (talk) 13:54, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Island marked as wintering range ist according to en:HBW, an this is consistant with other sources. It's typicially for blackbird that it occurs first as non breeder when extenting it's range north. There have been noticed first breeding attempts in island, so the status of Blackbird is perhaps currently changing.--Cactus26 (talk) 15:58, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Welcome, Dear Filemover!

Hi Cactus26, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all occurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
- Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
- Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Hi Cactus - could you clarify the source of the pictures on this file, please? As it stands, "pictures based on Phil Chantler, Gerald Driessens: A Guide to the Swifts and Tree Swifts of the World; Pica Press; Mountfield 2000" implies a breach of their copyright of those pictures. If so, one option would be to replace them with cc-licensed photos from Commons. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 09:53, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
How do I edit the following images?
Hi, Cactus!
I'm working with a translation to Swedish of w:de:Vorlage:Kategorie Bio-Systematik (with subpages). In this context, I've tried to edit File:CreatureCategoryTreeCommon.png and File:CreatureCategoryTreeScientific.png, both in ooffice and gimp; but I do not understand how. (To get down to the text fields, in order to replace German with Swedish, I'd need to dissolve this grouping into lower-level units. I thought that this grouping must have with the layering to do; but the gimp editor seems to claim that there is just one layer.) Could you suggest what I might be missing, or what more appropriate tool I should use?
Thanks in advance, JoergenB (talk) 18:41, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Joergen, the images were made with yEd, the format of the source is graphml. I've converted the images in png when uploading to get best results for display (svg doesn't work well). It would be easy for me to create a Swedish version when you give me the Swedish names. Alternatively I can give you the graphml file. You are very welcome. --Cactus26 (talk) 08:13, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the offer! The left hand square would have the title "Svenska namn", and the labels "Eukaryoter / Växter / Svampar / Djur ..."; and the title of the right hand square would be "Vetenskapliga namn". (The right hand square labels of course would be unchanged.) JoergenB (talk) 00:52, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- Great. I've now uploaded File:CreatureCategoryTreeCommon.sv.png and File:CreatureCategoryTreeScientific.sv.png. You could translate the discription of the images. Let me know if I made a mistake.--Cactus26 (talk) 08:44, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! These images are perfect! (The only "mistake" I found was that you didn't change the abbreviation "dt." in your German description of CreatureCategoryTreeCommon.sv.png. I do not know whether there is some common German abbreviation of "schwedischen", or one should write the full word,) JoergenB (talk) 15:16, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

- @Furicorn: Sorry for the idle time. I've now uploaded File:CreatureCategoryTreeScientific.en.png and File:CreatureCategoryTreeCommon.en.png. Hope I made no mistake, please double-check. --Cactus26 (talk) 08:27, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators.

Einladung zu Wiki Loves Earth 2026 in Deutschland
Hallo Cactus26,
