Featured picture candidates Featured picture candidates are images that the community will vote on, to determine whether or not they will be highlighted as some of the finest on Commons. This page lists the candidates to become featured pictures. The picture of the day images are selected from featured pictures. Old candidates for featured pictures are listed in the log pages and in the candidate archives. There are also chronological lists of featured pictures: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and current month. Formal thingsNominatingGuidelines for nominatorsPlease read the complete guidelines before nominating. This is a summary of what to look for when submitting and reviewing FP candidates:
Artworks, illustrations, and historical documentsThere are many different types of non-photographic media, including engravings, watercolors, paintings, etchings, and various others. Hence, it is difficult to set hard-and-fast guidelines. However, generally speaking, works can be divided into three types: Those that can be scanned, those that must be photographed, and those specifically created to illustrate a subject. Works that must be photographed include most paintings, sculptures, works too delicate or too unique to allow them to be put on a scanner, and so on. For these, the requirements for photography, below, may be mostly followed; however, it should be noted that photographs which cut off part of the original painting are generally not considered featurable. Works that may be scanned include most works created by processes that allow for mass distribution − for instance, illustrations published with novels. For these, it is generally accepted that a certain amount of extra manipulation is permissible to remove flaws inherent to one copy of the work, since the particular copy – of which hundreds, or even thousands of copies also exist – is not so important as the work itself. Works created to serve a purpose include diagrams, scientific illustrations, and demonstrations of contemporary artistic styles. For these, the main requirement is that they serve their purpose well. Provided the reproduction is of high quality, an artwork generally only needs one of the following four things to be featurable:
Digital restorations must also be well documented. An unedited version of the image should be uploaded locally, when possible, and cross-linked from the file description page. Edit notes should be specified in detail, such as "Rotated and cropped. Dirt, scratches, and stains removed. Histogram adjusted and colors balanced." PhotographsOn the technical side, we have focus, exposure, composition, movement control and depth of field.
On the graphic elements we have shape, volume, color, texture, perspective, balance, proportion, noise, etc.
You will maximise the chances of your nominations succeeding if you read the complete guidelines before nominating. Video and audioPlease nominate videos, sounds, music, PDFs, etc. at Commons:Featured media candidates. Set nominationsIf a group of images are thematically connected in a direct and obvious way, they can be nominated together as a set. A set should fall under one of the following types:
Adding a new nominationIf you believe that you have found or created an image that could be considered valuable, with appropriate name, quality, image description, categories and licensing, then do the following. Step 1: copy the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box, for example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Your image filename.jpg. Then click on the "create new nomination" button. All single files: For renominations, simply add /2 after the filename. For example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Foo.jpg/2
All set nomination pages should begin "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/", e.g. "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/My Nomination".
Step 3: manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list: Click here, and add the following line to the TOP of the nominations list:
Nominations are time-sensitive and for one-time use only. An automatic clock starts as soon as they are created. Do not create them in advance, save them for later or re-activate them. Galleries and FP categories: Please add a gallery page and section heading from the list at Commons FP galleries. Write the code as Page name#Section heading. For example: Optional: if you are not the creator of the image, please notify them using
An 'Alternative' is created by adding a sub-section to the nomination page: ====Alternative==== VotingEditors whose accounts have at least 10 days and 100 constructive, stable edits on Commons (excluding user and talk pages) can vote. Everybody can vote for their own nominations. Anonymous (IP) votes are not allowed. You may use the following templates:
You may indicate that the image has no chance of success with the template reason - ~~~~, where reason explains why the image is clearly unacceptable as a FP. The template can only be used when there are no support votes other than the one from the nominator. A well-written review helps participants (photographers, nominators and reviewers) improve their skills by providing insight into the strengths and weaknesses of a picture. Explain your reasoning, especially when opposing a candidate (which has been carefully selected by the author/nominator). English is the most widely understood language on Commons, but any language may be used in your review. A helpful review will often reference one or more of the criteria listed above. Unhelpful reasons for opposing include:
Remember also to put your signature (~~~~). Featured picture delisting candidatesOver time, featured picture standards change. It may be decided that for some pictures which were formerly "good enough", this is no longer the case. This is for listing an image which you believe no longer deserves to be a featured picture. For these, vote:
This can also be used for cases in which a previous version of an image was promoted to FP, but a newer version of the image has been made and is believed to be superior to the old version, e.g. a newly edited version of a photo or a new scan of a historical image. In particular, it is not intended for replacing older photos of a particular subject with newer photos of the same subject, or in any other case where the current FP and the proposed replacement are essentially different images. For these nominations, vote:
If you believe that some picture no longer meets the criteria for FP, you can nominate it for delisting, copying the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box: In the new delisting nomination page just created you should include:
After that, you have to manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list. As a courtesy, leave an informative note on the talk page(s) of the original creator, uploader(s), and nominator with a link to the delisting candidate. can be used for this purpose. Featured picture candidate policyGeneral rules
Featuring and delisting rulesA candidate will become a featured picture in compliance with following conditions:
The delisting rules are the same as those for FPs, with voting taking place over the same time period. The rule of the 5th day is applied to delisting candidates that have received no votes to delist, other than that of the proposer, by day 5. The FPCBot handles the vote counting and closing in most cases, current exceptions are candidates containing multiple versions (“alternatives”) of the image as well as delist-and-replace nominations. Any experienced user may close the requests not handled by the bot. For instructions on how to close nominations, see Commons:Featured picture candidates/What to do after voting is finished. Also note that there is a manual review stage between when the bot has counted the votes and before the nomination is finally closed by the bot; this manual review can be done by any user familiar with the voting rules. Hint: Until summer 2025, the bot was also not able to process FPXed, FPDed and withdrawn nominations as well as delist nominations; this has been fixed, users do not need to close such nominations anymore. Above all, be politePlease don't forget that the image you are judging is somebody's work. Avoid using phrases like "it looks terrible" and "I hate it". If you must oppose, please do so with consideration. Also remember that your command of English might not be the same as someone else's. Choose your words with care. Happy judging… and remember… all rules can be broken. See also

Info View from the octagon of Aachen Cathedral through the Neo-Byzantine triumphal arch into the Gothic choir. The arch mosaic (1900–1913, Hermann Schaper; Puhl & Wagner) shows the Hetoimasia—the empty throne of Christ with the Holy Spirit as a dove, flanked by seraphim—echoing Holy Saturday (also the day I have done the photograph), the day before the Resurrection. Technique: HDRI, 19mm shift lens to get the choir and beautiful mosaics on one photo.

Oppose Far from being sharp enough for FP, cant find focal points, seems like on blue windows. --Mile (talk) 17:10, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review, Mile. "Far from being sharp" seems a bit too general in this case: with over 40 MP you can make out almost every detail of the stained-glass windows, even the eagle in the darker area below them. In the bouquet, you can nearly distinguish individual petals. What is true is that the upper part of the mosaic is unfortunately a bit out of focus. In the end, I had to make a trade-off here: maximum shift to capture everything, while keeping large parts of the room sharp (shooting condition: hand-held, no tripod allowed). Compared to the other images in Category:Choir of Aachen Cathedral (interior), I actually consider this one quite good (compisition, light and quality), which is why I nominated it. --Tuxyso (talk) 17:28, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Tuxyso I opened it and waited, because i thougthed it not loaded yet complete. Then i check if i have above 100% viewing (often i use more to be sure), but i saw it was already on 100% (so pixel vs pixel). So what was wrong, probably should have more calm hands, also, you used more than 2 stop of reserve (why ?). This should go 1/20 s (or 1/40) per your focal 19 mm. Also i think putting exposure to -2 EV (downed) maybe didnt help to get upper mosaics good. What to compare, lets try mine "similar", i was here beyond the math (focal, time) trying to spare ISO, since it was already high. But see shoes (dots) and her nails, they were quiet more sharp. So suggest another try. I have more similar, you can get better image. --Mile (talk) 18:34, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Comment Overall quite nice. Some flecks remain in the top and bottom areas, and I would consider cloning to straighten the top. JayCubby (talk) 23:40, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
Comment The support shows a fold deformation that creates a visible issue, especially in the upper area. To correct it, a partial crop of the banner appears to have been applied. In addition, the image shows high chromatic noise and excessive contrast. Compression artifacts introduced during the conversion from TIF to JPG are also visible, resulting in a noticeable loss of visual quality. Overall, I believe the restoration could have been carried out in a less invasive manner and with less impact on the original information. --Wilfredor (talk) 00:19, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

- What color do you prefer ? --Ezarateesteban 17:03, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- It is not really a matter of my personal color preference, but rather that the original TIFF colors appear to have been altered. For example, the lower text has an almost black background, whereas in the original file it is clearly blue. I appreciate the effort, but it seems that the tool being used to render the RAW/TIFF file is affecting the color Wilfredor (talk) 19:08, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Support Stunning motif and great work, though I would have opted for a square format because of the edge sharpness. --Achim Lammerts • Syntaxys (talk) 03:21, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review, Achim Lammerts • Syntaxys. I think in the case here there is no problem with edge sharpness (look for instance at the marmor elements at the very edges). The slightly unsharp elements you realized are some very close elements from the nearly 1000 years old Barbarossa Chandelier which is near the ground directly under the dome mosaic. A square format had cropped the chandelier nearly completely thus I deciced to take this format (I only had a 19mm fixed-focal length with me). --Tuxyso (talk) 06:13, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. In the thumbnail, I thought it was the usual lack of focus you get with wide-angle lenses, but looking more closely confirms what you’re saying. In these cases, a quick solution is focus stacking. Four shots at f/8 would be enough, or if you want greater sharpness, you can reduce the exposure and increase the number of shots, focusing at different depths. The Z8 has this function built in automatically. Wilfredor (talk) 14:55, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

Info Reason to delist (Original nomination): More than a decade has passed since the last delisting nomination at Commons:Featured picture candidates/removal/File:Full Moon Luc Viatour.jpg. The 2 megapixel capture is very low resolution by modern standards. We already have a slightly higher resolution 5 megapixel image File:FullMoon2010.jpg that is an existing FP. We also have vastly higher resolution captures like the 35 megapixel File:2019-01-20 21-58MEZ Vollmond LRGB.jpg. IMO the 2006 image was great for its time but nowadays it no longer even covers the resolution of a cellphone screen.
Delist -- dllu (talk) 17:42, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
Delist for an image that was historically significant, I would've been more open to accepting a lower resolution. Given that this image was not, a delist seems appropriate. —UnpetitproleX (Talk) 20:33, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
Delist yeah, we have suitable replacements, and many astrophotographers today could exceed this quality with inexpensive equipment. —brainandforce [yap] 18:40, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

Support. Tuxyso, how do you get such nice stacks through glass? JayCubby (talk) 16:45, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review, JayCubby. My all-time favorite lens for stacks from a museum is my fixed-focal lens 20mm f/1.8 which has very high resolution even at f1.8. Due to the wide-angle I have to go close to the glass thus reflexions are minimized as a positive side-effect. In the case with the crown here the light around was quite dark with the consequence that were not that many reflections on the glass itself. Another important steps happens in the post: I completely darken the background with jewellery to have full attention on the main subject. In the case here I deciced the red velvet under the crown because of the visible red-reflections on the surface of the crown. The one shot out-of-the-camera (without any editing): https://ibb.co/VY9mdPJR Tuxyso (talk) 04:25, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

Comment Freedom of Panorama in Macedonia does not apply to works of painting, only to architecture and sculpture (per the template). You mentioned in the previous nomination that the artist relinquished his copyright; is there any documentation of that? — Chris Woodrich (talk) 18:01, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- I wasn't shown a printed/electronic document from the monastery, but told that taking free pictures under CC licences for commercial use is absolutely fine. A document can be requested from the Macedonian Orthodox Church, but I don't have the artist's contact so that this is formally done. --Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 19:53, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

Oppose I'm sorry, but I don't think that this is a valid set. Which criteria for a set do you believe to fulfill? Why do these 7 palettes build a set? why not 3 more or 2 less? We have also seen so spectacular astronomical objects that I'm not sure either about the wow factor, still I have tons of respect for your work, as I'm capable to get closer to it. --Poco a poco (talk) 19:08, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- I think this is a fair question. I'd say it falls under point 3, "A group of images depicting the same subject from different viewpoints" - while "viewpoints" can't be taken literally when your subject is 1,300 light years away, I'd argue that astronomical images processed from differing combinations of bands follows the spirit. While it's possible to combine bands essentially arbitrarily, these images collectively cover 5 bands most commonly imaged by amateur astronomers (RGB, H-alpha, [O III]) along with near infrared, and they're all wavelength ordered.
- As for wow factor, I take a relatively minimal approach to processing, so there's definitely ways these images could be cleaned up, but I wanted to keep the final results true to the raw data. —brainandforce [yap] 08:27, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

Info The first published full disc photo of Earth taken by a person in the 21st century, since Apollo 17, and of the night side, illuminated by moonlight of the full Moon, and with city lights, airglow, two auroras, afterglow, zodiacal light and Venus. Created by Gregory Reid Wiseman/NASA, in April 2026 – uploaded by GiovanniPen – nominated by GumballNine1Nine -- GumballNine1Nine (talk) 16:55, 3 April 2026 (UTC)
Comment -- @GumballNine1Nine: This is not, in fact, a "fully illuminated Earth". It is a photo of the Earth's night side. The illumination in the shot comes from the Moon, not the Sun (which was behind the Earth at this time). I believe the oppose votes have in part be influenced by the wrong assumption that this photo was taken in daylight. Renerpho (talk) 23:45, 4 April 2026 (UTC)

Support Unique in that this is the night side of the Earth with the sun eclipsed: stars are visible in the background, as well as city lights and aurorae (and maybe some zodiacal light?). Perhaps there will be a better image available soon, but I'd guess we can just delist this one and replace it. —brainandforce [yap] 22:08, 3 April 2026 (UTC)

Comment File:Artemis II Captures the Terminator Line (art002e000190).jpg is of better quality (but different composition) and from the same source. ★ 05:15, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
Support Historical and newsworthy capture. As mentioned by several commenters above, the reason why this was shot at 1/4 s and ISO 51200 is because it is the dark (night) side of the Earth. None of the other photos in Category:Featured pictures of Earth from space have this property apart from some satellite photos that were scanned with specialized cameras. dllu (talk) 06:02, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
Oppose. I'm not convinced about the quality. Is it really the best possible version of this Nikon D5–taken photograph? It was created literally yesterday, I'm sure we can wait a few days until we figure this out. Yacàwotçã (talk) 06:57, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Too soon. Please wait for some time. NASA may already have better images from Artemis II than this poor copy. And they will certainly have. Yann (talk) 09:13, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Not yet. Not until a higher quality version comes out. TheBritinator (talk) 14:45, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
Support The oppose votes don't take into account that this is a long exposure of the Earth's night side, illuminated by the Moon rather than the Sun (compare File:Artemis II Captures Dark Side of the Earth.jpg for a shorter exposure of the same scene). The "terrible quality" is in comparison to a different kind of photo, and is really comparing apples to oranges. We have never seen an image of Earth quite like this; for example, it is one of the few images that have an exposure time long enough to see stars. The Apollo missions never got a chance to take a photo like this, because they had to launch towards the new Moon (with the fully illuminated Earth behind them). There's so much going on (from city lights on the ground over the planet Venus to the zodiacal light, aurora over the north and south pole, etc.) that makes this a very unusual photo. There will be no higher quality version of this; there was one chance to take that photo, hand-held, with the highest ISO setting and longest exposure time the photographer could manage. NASA talked about the eclipse in the build-up to the launch, and this geometry is unlikely to be repeated in upcoming Artemis launches. In short, I support as a unique photograph. Renerpho (talk) 23:45, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
- There's also a disturbing reflection/lens flare in the middle of the image (see the note). ★ 00:01, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- @ArionStar: It looks like a reflection to me (something inside the capsule, being reflected in the window). I agree that it's a bit distracting, but again, it's the best that is possible for this kind of shot. We should always ask for images of a reasonably good quality, but I argue that this image meets that criterion -- with all the artifacts it has. Renerpho (talk) 00:06, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- The off-center crop doesn't help… ★ 01:18, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- It's not an off-center crop. It's cropped just so that Venus and the zodiacal light aren't cut off. Renerpho (talk) 14:10, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- @ArionStar by nitpicking about the reflection and the off-center crop, you're missing the point that Renerpho is making, which is that this is a unique and irreplaceable photo of historical significance despite its technical flaws. We can all see that the photo is grainy and has reflections and other imperfections. But given the extraordinary circumstances, some of us believe that it should be featured, in accordance with the FPC guidelines which states that "Hence, a work of poor quality depicting a contemporaneous historical event can be nonetheless important, even if the artistic merit is relatively low." dllu (talk) 19:25, 5 April 2026 (UTC)

- This is probably a high compressed version sent across space. Let's wait for the astronauts coming back home, we will have a better copy. Yann (talk) 13:43, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Yann: If I read the EXIF data here correctly then the photo was created as a JPG file; and what was later processed on the ground in Lightroom was the original JPG as created by the camera. There really is no bandwidth limitation so close to Earth that would have prevented them from sending it "as is". Renerpho (talk) 14:28, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- This means NASA uses out-of-camera JPEG files? OMG, no wonder that the quality is rather poor. If there is no bandwidth limitation, the first thing they must do is to set the camera to use the raw image file format and to send the raw files. There is much, much, much more latitude for editing when you use the raw image file format instead of JPEG, and when it comes to a photo of the night side of the Earth, “illuminated by moonlight of the full Moon”, you need as much latitude for editing as you can get. – Aristeas (talk) 07:09, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Using OOC JPEG images in such a historical situation is incredibly sloppy. – Aristeas (talk) 07:09, 7 April 2026 (UTC)- Someone should try to confirm if I read the EXIF data correctly before votes are being based on that. Renerpho (talk) 07:13, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
Oppose I looked at the Exif data and yes, they seem to indicate an OOC JPEG file, and the file itself looks very much like an edited OOC JPEG file, too. However you are right that it is problematic to base voting on unclear facts. Let’s keep things simple. Sorry, the image quality clearly is not on the level we have often seen from NASA and would expect from NASA in 2026. I absolutely respect if somebody says historicity outweighs quality issues, but sorry, I beg to differ, I don’t see this in this case. – Aristeas (talk) 18:31, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

This is especially evident on the star cluster [FSR2007] 0467 at the northwest (top right) corner of the nebula. A reprocess of this data may get FP though. —brainandforce [yap] 22:49, 3 April 2026 (UTC)

Comment Very good overall, if it weren't for that strangely-lit area between the ladder and the legs (I have added a note to the image to pinpoint it). I assume this is a masking error and could therefore be fixed? --Aciarium ⚒ (talk) 09:17, 3 April 2026 (UTC)

- I think it is from inconsistent masking to fix the high contrast and lift dark shadowy areas. That’s all acceptable but the masking is not very well done. @Joydeep: perhaps you could upload the RAW separately, or email it to me, I would like to take a stab at it. Otherwise please apply a different mask. UnpetitproleX (Talk) 19:35, 3 April 2026 (UTC)

Closing nominations manually
The following description explains how to close nominations manually. Normally this is not necessary, as FPCBot takes care of counting the votes, closing and archiving the nominations. When the Bot has counted the votes, a user needs to check and approve the result; everything else is done by the Bot. Therefore, the following instructions are normally only needed for delist-and-replace nominations that the Bot cannot (yet) process, and in case the Bot malfunctions. The closing can be done by any experienced user. If you need help, just ask on the FPC talk page.
Closing a featured picture nomination
- On Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the nomination, then [edit].
- Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):

(You can leave thegalleryparameter blank if the image was not featured. If the nomination contains alternatives, you must add thealternative=xxxparameter with the name of the selected image between thegalleryand thesigparameter. See FPC-results-reviewed for examples and more explanations.) - Edit the title of the nomination and add
featuredornot featuredafter the link – for example:
:File:XXXXX.jpg
becomes
=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, featured === - Save your edit.
- Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):
- If it is featured:
- Add the picture to the list of the four most recently featured pictures of an appropriate gallery of Commons:Featured pictures, list as the first one and delete the last one, so that the number is four again.
- Add the picture to the appropriate featured picture gallery page and section. Click on the most appropriate link beneath where you just added it as one of the four images on Commons:Featured pictures, list to find the gallery page, and search for the correct section. (An image should only appear ONE time in the galleries. After a successful nomination, the image can be placed in several of the Featured pictures categories.)
- Add the template
to the image description page.- If it was an alternative image or part of a set nomination, use the
com-nomparameter. For example, if File:Foo.jpg was promoted in the nominationCommons:Featured picture candidates/File:Bar.jpg, useYou also need thecom-nomparameter if the image gets renamed. - If the image is already featured on another Wikipedia, just add
featured=1to the Assessments template. For instance, becomes
- If it was an alternative image or part of a set nomination, use the
- Head over to the structured data for the image and add the “Commons quality assessment” claim (P6731) “Wikimedia Commons featured picture” (Q63348049).
- Add the picture to the chronological archives of featured pictures. Place it at the end of the gallery using this format:
File:xxxxx.jpg|# Title<br>created by xxxxx, uploaded by xxxxx, nominated by xxxxx<br> xxx, xxx, xxx- The
#should be replaced by 1 for the first image nominated that month, and counts up after that. Have a look at the other entries on that page for examples. (If you want to do everything perfectly, link that number to the nomination subpage, just like FPCBot does this. It allows users to jump directly to the nomination.) - The
Titleshould be replaced by the bare name of the featured picture, without the ‘File:’ or the file extension (such as .jpg .tif .svg). - The
xinx, x, xshould be replaced by the count of support, oppose, and neutral votes respectively. - If the nomination was a set nomination, use this format:
File:xxxxx.jpg|# Set: Title (Z files)<br>created by xxxxx, uploaded by xxxxx, nominated by xxxxx<br> x, x, x
Replace theZin(Z files)by the count of images in the set, and use the name of the first image from the set instead ofFile:xxxxx.jpgand for the title.
- The
- Add
FP promotion
File:XXXXX.jpgto the talk page of the nominator. For set nominations, use:== Set Promoted to FP ==, using the names of the set files instead of the XXXXXX and the title of the set instead of YYYYY.
<gallery>
File:XXXXXX.jpg
File:XXXXXX.jpg
</gallery>
YYYYY - Add
FP promotion
File:XXXXX.jpgto the talk page of the user who has uploaded the image, if that user is not the same as the nominator. - Add
FP promotion
File:XXXXX.jpgto the talk page of the creator, if the author is a different Commons user than nominator and uploader.
- Add candidate archive categories to the nomination so that people can easily find and evaluate past nominations (this applies also to unsuccessful, FPX-d, FPD-d and Withdraw-n nominations). It’s best practice to wrap all these categories in a
<noinclude>...</noinclude>section because they apply only to the nomination itself, not to the log page etc. which transclude it. You need three or four categories:- A category for the month and year, like Category:April 2026 featured picture candidates for the current month.
- A category for the type and result of the nomination, like Category:2026 successful candidates for featured picture status; replace “successful” by “unsuccessful”, “FPXed”, “FPDed” or “withdrawn”, depending on the final result of the nomination (see the supercategory for common values).
- A category for the subject of the nomination, like Category:2026 featured picture candidates of plants. Replace “plants” by one of the possible subject keywords like “animals”, “architecture”, etc.; see the base category for all common keywords. Basically the subject keywords correspond to the first part of the gallery link.
- If the nomination is a set nomination, add Category:2026 featured picture set nominations.
- As the last step (whether the image is featured or not; including FPX-d, FPD-d and Withdraw-n nominations), you have to move the transclusion (the and the text within those) of the nomination to the current log page.
- To find the current log page, visit the first page of the log for this month. If the header of that page contains a link with the text “Next part of this month”, the log for this month has been split into several parts because it contains too many entries. Click on the “Next part …” link and repeat this until you reach a page where the header does not offer a “Next part …” link; that’s the last and current log page.
- Now open Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list, click on [edit], and find the transclusion of the nomination you are closing. It will be of the form:
or:. - Copy that line to the bottom of the current log page and save that page. Then remove the same line from the candidate list and save that page.
Closing a delisting nomination
- On Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the candidate image, then [edit].
Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):
(for example see Commons:Featured picture candidates/removal/File:Ensifera ensifera (22271195865).jpg) - Edit the title of the delisting nomination and add
delistedornot delistedafter the image title; for example:=== :File:XXXXX.jpg ===
becomes=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, delisted === - Add candidate archive categories to the nomination; this works the same way as described above for featured picture nominations. The only difference is that the category for type and status must be of the form Category:2026 successful candidates for delisting from featured picture status, or Category:2026 successful candidates for delisting and replacing featured pictures if this is a delist-and-replace nomination. Substitute “unsuccessful”, “FPXed”, “FPDed” or “withdrawn” for “successful”, depending on the final result of the nomination.
- Move the transclusion of the nomination to the current log page; please see above for an explanation how to find the current log page and how to move the nomination to it.
- If the outcome was not delisted, stop here. If it is delisted:
- Remove the picture from Commons:Featured pictures, list and any subpages.
- Edit the picture's description as follows:
- In the Assessments template on the image description page, change
featured=1tofeatured=2(do not remove the Assessments template; do not change anything related to its status in other featured picture processes). If the image description page uses the old Featured picture template, replace it with. - Remove the image from all categories beginning with "Featured [pictures]" (example: Featured night photography, Featured pictures from Wiki Loves Monuments 2016, Featured pictures of Paris); but not from categories about featured pictures on specific Wikipedia editions, like Category:Featured pictures on Wikipedia, English.
- Remove the "Commons quality assessment" claim (P6731) "Wikimedia Commons featured picture" (Q63348049) from the picture's Structured data.
- In the Assessments template on the image description page, change
- Add a delisting-comment to the original entry in the chronological archive of featured pictures in bold-face, e. g. delisted 2007-07-19 (1–6) with (1–6) meaning 1 keep and 6 delist votes (change as appropriate). The picture must not be removed from the chronological archives.
- If this is a Delist and Replace, the delisting and promotion must both be done manually. To do the promotion, follow the steps in the section above. Note that the assessment tag on the file page and the promotion tag on the nominator's talk page won't pick up the /replace subpage that these nominations use.
Archiving a withdrawn nomination
If a nomination has been withdrawn by the nominator by using Withdraw or is cancelled with FPX or FPD, wait 24 hours after the nomination was last edited. If there has been no objection to the cancellation within this time, the nomination can simply be archived. Just add candidate archive categories to the nomination itself, then move the transclusion of the nomination to the current log page; please see above for an explanation how to find the current log page and how to move the nomination to it.
