Coats of arms of Catholic dioceses of the U.S.

Did a similar fix for the unwanted white dots in File:Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington.svg, but it would be quite a bit of work for me to attempt to do anything about the fact that the lines separating the cross from the blue background are quite a bit thicker than the other cross lines. To avoid the unwanted white problem, you need to up the "miterlimit" for the lines enclosing the cross bottony (but I have no idea how that can be done within Inkscape) -- I changed it from 4 to 15, which seemed to be enough... Boy, your energy and perseverance are astonishing! I've been trying to add the coat of arms images to the corresponding Italian Wikipedia diocese pages, and am falling behind you in even doing that. Believe me, however much you may feel yourself to be a beginner in Inkscape, there are a lot of SVG coat of arms images on Commons that look worse than yours. When you do Austin, feel free to make use of my image, but preferably don't overwrite it -- its name includes "shield", and so is suitable to an image that includes the shield only... Hi, I was wondering if you could edit your file for the coat of arms of the ARchdiocese of NY

. The background is supposed to be white, not gray, there are discrepancies in the mitre, and there should not be striations in the windmill arms. I uploaded a file that shows what it should look like. If you don't want to edit your file, could you change the settings so I can override it with a correct image? Thanks. User:ArchNYArchives

Interesting symbol -- have you seen File:0000 Holy Trinity .JPG / File:Petropolis Holy Trinity circles symbol stained-glass window.jpg ? I once wanted to do a somewhat similar "language-neutral" version of the Shield of the Trinity diagram, but could never really find appropriate freely-licensed pre-drawn vector symbols that would work that well together... Interesting stained glass there—a very similar concept to the S.O.L.T. badge for sure. I would be curious to see how a language-neutral Trinity shield would look. Here's what I have so far, newly-converted to SVG: File:Shield of the Trinity diagram - language-neutral concept.svg . I was thinking of putting a hand emerging from a cloud in the top left circle, a descending dove in the top right circle, and an Agnus Dei in the bottom circle, but I could never really find available suitable depictions that individually look good, and are also stylistically compatible with each other... Non-Borromean linkings are included as part of File:Lord Warden Cinque Ports (Lord Boyce).svg and File:Suchy-coat of arms.svg, but I'm not sure that they're exactly the same as what's in the GIF image... AnonMoos (talk) 09:39, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Escudos de armas eclesiásticos

Hola Alekjds

Escribo en español, pues el antiguo diseño de tu pagina decía que lo hablas. Desde hace días detecte tus escudos eclesiásticos de la Iglesia Católica en los Estados Unidos, pues también hago escudos en SVG y me interesa la heráldica. Junto con un wikicolega hemos hecho casi todos los escudos eclesiásticos de Colombia. Quiero indicar algunos detalles que vi en tus escudos que deben ser corregidos, por ejemplo manejas hasta cuatro tonos de azul, dos tonos de rojo, aconsejo que uses un solo tono de cada color, supongo que trabajas con los tonos que usa el WikiProject Heraldry and vexillology, pues en la wiki en español usamos otros tonos, y en la wiki en francés también usan otros tonos. Sobre los tonos de azul, recomiendo que no uses el tono oscuro ni el tono claro. Quiero saber ¿porque en tus escudos usas la mitra de lado? pues en las paginas oficiales de las diócesis, veo los escudos con las mitras de frente y simétricas. saludos SajoR (talk) 19:50, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Hola SajoR. Ante todo, por favor, disculpe mi español. Ha sido un largo tiempo desde que lo estudié. Aprecio sus comentarios y quiero tratar cada uno de ellos en orden. En cuanto a los colores, no sabía que tenía que usar los colores normales. Ahora que sé esto, voy a tratar de mantener una paleta normal de colores, y fijar las imágenes que ya he subido. En cuanto a la mitra, el estilo artístico de la mitra me parece ser sobre todo una opción de estética. Por otra parte, no pude encontrar una imagen libre de Wikimedia Commons para el uso, y me falta la habilidad para crear uno yo mismo. Cuando dices que no has encontrado una imagen libre para usar, ¿te refieres a una mitra de frente y simétrica?, acá puedes encontrar varios estilos de mitras y acá tengo dos estilos que use en mis escudos: , las puedes modificar a tu gusto. "Standard colors": white/grey

Unfortunately, people who see grey instead of expected white in heraldic computer images are very likely to wonder why they're "dirty". It's nice if you want to show silver, but the fact is that no area of simple constant flat color on a computer screen can look silvery (shiny, metallic, reflective) on its own -- it takes much more elaborate graphic techniques to give a true metallic appearance. In the past, there have been lengthy and acrimonious disputes about replacing white with various shades of grey in the flag of Italy, the flag and national emblems of Poland etc., and in the end File:Flag of Italy.svg and File:Flag of Poland.svg still use pure white. It would probably be best to avoid the whole heraldic-"argent"-shown-as-grey-attempting-to-be-silver-but-failing thing... AnonMoos (talk) 00:52, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Coat of arms of Harry Entwistle

On 20th February 2013, Fr Harry Entwistle was appointed a Protonotary Apostolic supernumerary. Hence the external ornaments of his personal coat of arms has been altered and are now : a violet galero with twelve red fiocchi.

Now that we have a digital media team we're wanting to create a high-resolution coat of arms file for when we need to utilize it digitally. Hello @Jrry123: I use Inkscape, and I think most of the other heraldic SVG designers on here do the same. Learning the program can be a little challenging if you're unfamiliar with vectors, but if you fiddle around with it you can get a good idea. Mostly what I'm doing is taking pre-designed SVG elements from Wikimedia Commons and combining them in certain ways to make a new image. — AJDS ^talk 13:44, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Hello! according to Commons:Coats of arms, only symbols that fell in the PD are allowed to be hosted here. The fact of having rendered the image with inkscape or similar software is not enough if this does not meet the requirements to be a PD emblem (in this case, published before 1930 or author's death date +70).

As a matter of fact, the logo is shown on the Allegheny College brand center website with the legend at bottom "© 2025 Allegheny College". I think this is a valid reason to consider it copyrighted by the college. Fma12 (talk) 18:20, 18 April 2025 (UTC)

Okay, I think I follow you. I assume there's been discussion on here that I'm not aware of; I'm not nearly as active here as I was a decade ago. My understanding has always been that heraldic devices, in themselves, are not copyrightable; only particular emblazonments (artistic instantiations) are. Producing your own original rendition of a design is an original work, in my understanding. If you think this is so close to the original that it violates copyright, go ahead and delete. It's really pretty poor work anyway, if I admit that about my Inkscape skills as a 23 year old! — AJDS ^talk 19:44, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
