Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

SVG-size

Hi and thank you for creating and uploading SVG-Files for Commons - this files haves a large file-size - are you used in creating svg-files? what method did you use for File:Flag of Berbera.svg? simply my source could have used - i dont know, but perhaps @Sarang: would also help you and answer questions as a svg-expert --Mrmw (talk) 08:56, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

i see - i think, this tool takes the given input-svg as raster-image - and creates a new vector-image - this is completely unnecessary - you create a huge loss of quality with a very large filesize

you should use an editor like inkscape to create and edit svg-files - please compare quality and filesize for both files:

Category hierarchy

Regarding your uploads of Somaliland military photos, note that per COM:OVERCAT images should not be categorised in both a subcategory and its parent category. For example, an image categorised within Category:Somaliland National Army should not be categorised under Category:Military of Somaliland as well, as the first is already a subcategory of the other. Hi, can you pls make a vector version c:File:Flag of Kropotkin (Krasnodar krai).png and c:File:Coat of Arms of Kropotkin (Krasnodar krai).png?

Thanks. About the coat of arms, I think, it's too much. It has too thick black outlines (I think it's better to either remove them, or make them less dark, well, that is, so that they are darker than the elements of the coat of arms). Also I looked at the official website of the town administration (here, and here it's too red, but I don't think we should change its color. Geographic map of Somaliland

Hi Siirski, I see you made a change of my map and corrected the eastern border. I disagree with this and reverted the map for the following reasons:

According to the en:Somalia–Somaliland border article this border is disputed between Somalia and the self-declared sovereign state of Somaliland. I do not want to enter into political discussions but only reflect this facts on the map. For this reason I would like to keep this border in a different shape.
You modified directly the work and therefore changed the content of the original file. According to the guidelines for updating files in Wikimedia Commons you cannot make Controversial or contested changes when overwriting existing files. You are free to adapt the work but please read the license how to do it.
By modifying my work you made some technical changes and lost some of the features I have created (the data was organised in layers).

I understand your political views but please respect the work of the others. Such behaviour will make me regret to work on maps for areas with arguable status. Cheers --Ikonact (talk) 08:02, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi, I've noticed in File:Somaliland regions map.png there's an inconsistency in your last update.

The legenda in the bottom of the page doesn't make so much sense after the removal of the striped area.

If you are sure that the lands are not anymore disputed remove the legenda, otherwise, please restore the stripes where they were. Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 15:48, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

Vectorization of logos for Somaliland political associations

Hi, I recently created a article for the 2024 Somaliland national political party election. In the process of creating the article, I also uploaded the logos of the 7 new political associations to wiki commons. I've tried to vectorize some of this logos but I'm not skilled enough to do so. I was hoping you might be able to do so, as you have for the other political parties in Somaliland. Rhe logos that could use Vectorization are Barwaaqo, Horseed, Talo-Wadaag, Hillaac, and Shacabka. Oh, I see. I will search for an administrator who is knowledgeable in editing SVG files and is willing to do this color switch. A separate question for you. Can you edit SVG maps? For example, in the PNG versions of both SVG maps, File:Missions of Somaliland.png and File:Missions in Somaliland.png, Somaliland is colored in red, which makes it clearly visible.
